    No full text
Background: Intrauterine Growth Restriction (IUGR) is one of the leading causes of perinatal morbidity and mortality, particularly among vulnerable populations. Ferritin reflects iron storage and has the potential to serve as a predictive biomarker for IUGR, while socio-cultural factors influence maternal nutritional status and antenatal health behaviors. Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between ferritin levels and IUGR among pregnant women in the Suku Anak Dalam (SAD) community, and to explore the socio-cultural context that affects iron status and fetal growth. Methods: A mixed-methods study was conducted from July to August 2025 among 31 pregnant women from the Suku Anak Dalam (SAD) community in Tebo Regency, Jambi. Quantitative data were obtained through ferritin measurement using a Ferritin Rapid Test from capillary blood, while IUGR was identified based on fundal height, abdominal girth, and fetal heart rate. Qualitative data were collected through in-depth interviews and observations focusing on dietary practices, cultural beliefs, and access to health services. Results: Nineteen respondents (61,3%) had low ferritin levels (<15 ng/mL), and eight (25,8%) were categorized as having IUGR. Low ferritin levels were significantly associated with IUGR (p=0,02; OR=5,3; 95% CI: 1,1–24,5). Qualitative findings revealed limited dietary diversity, dependence on forest-based foods, and cultural practices that restricted antenatal care access, which indirectly increased the risk of IUGR.Conclusion: Low ferritin levels were significantly associated with an increased risk of IUGR, and socio-cultural factors exacerbated this condition through their influence on maternal nutrition and health behaviors among SAD pregnant women. Integrating simple ferritin screening with an understanding of the socio-cultural context may serve as an effective strategy for early screening and prevention in remote areas

Folic acid is a synthetic vitamin B9 that plays an important role in folate metabolism, including the synthesis of DNA and RNA, and epigenetic methylation. These processes are essential for the development of the nervous system. Impaired folate metabolism contributes to the pathophysiology of ASD through the dysregulation of neurochemical and epigenetic processes. This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the efficacy of folinic acid in alleviating ASD symptoms.  Methods: Review Manager Software. Searches were conducted in PubMed, Science Direct, and Cochrane based on studies published in the last five years (2018-2023), with inclusion criteria of RCTs and exclusion of observational studies and non-English articles. Fixed-effects analysis was used because no heterogeneity was observed. Results: Two studies (n= 103) evaluated the effect of folinic acid on reducing ASD symptoms. Symptoms were assessed using the aberrant behavior checklist. The pooled mean difference was -0,66, with a 95% confidence interval ranging from -1,22 -0,10. The results showed statistical significance, with a p-value of 0,02. However, this analysis used only two studies with small sample sizes and modest mean differences. In conclusion, folinic acid administration has the potential to reduce ASD symptoms in children. Further research with a larger sample size is needed to generalize the clinically meaningful results

Microbiological deterioration of fish is caused by microbial contamination or spoilage microbes. One technique to extend the shelf life and maintain the sensory quality of a food product is vacuum packaging. The principle of vacuum packaging is to remove all air from the package, then close it tightly so that a condition without oxygen is created in the package. The absence of oxygen can inhibit the growth of destructive microorganisms and chemical reactions, thus extending the shelf life of the packaged product. This community service activity aims to increase community knowledge, especially salted fish producers in order to extend the shelf life of salted fish. From the results of the acquisition of the average value of knowledge and attitudes of participants who took the pre-test and post-test, it was seen that there was an increase in participant knowledge by 6%, from 70,33% to 76,33%. There was an increase in the average attitude of participants by 1,34%, from 84,33 to 85,67%. Training on the use of vacuum sealers to maintain moisture content and extend the shelf life of salted fish in salted fish producers in Layeun Village, Leupung District has a positive impact on increasing knowledge and attitudes towards salted fish preservation. Keywords: Vacuum Sealer, Salted Fish, Shelf Life
