Kualitas MP-ASI dan hubungan dengan status gizi pada anak penderita ISPA di Bengkulu
Background: The 2022 Indonesian Nutrition Status Survey results show that the stunting rate reaches 21.6%, wasting 7.7%, and underweight 17.7%. Malnutrition problems in toddlers, especially those suffering from Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI), are often exacerbated by the provision of Complementary Feeding that does not meet nutritional standards. Therefore, greater attention to complementary feeding quality is essential to improving children's nutritional status and reducing the risk of ARI complications. Objective: To identify the relationship between the quality of complementary breastfeeding and nutritional conditions, such as underweight, wasting, and stunting, in children under two years of age suffering from ARI, as an urgent effort to address malnutrition problems and improve children's health in vulnerable communities. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional design with a target of toddlers aged 6-24 months who suffered from ARI, with a sample of 96 children. Data on complementary breastfeeding was collected through interviews using questionnaires, as well as weight measurements with digital scales and height with a lenghtboard. Statistical analysis using the Chi-square test. Results: Nutritional problems in two-year-old children with ISPA were found to be 44.8% underweight, 60.4% wasting, and 36.5% stunting. Complementary Feeding quality that did not meet the recommendations was significantly associated with the incidence of being underweight (p-value 0.035; OR 2.488), and wasting (p-value <0.0001; OR 6.657), but was not significantly associated with the incidence of stunting (p-value 0.95; OR 0.973).Conclusion: The quality of Complementary Feeding that does not meet nutritional standards in children with ARI is significantly related to the incidence of underweight and wasting
Hubungan riwayat pemberian ASI eksklusif dengan kejadian stunting pada balita usia 24 - 60 bulan di wilayah kerja Puskesmas Sungai Kapih
Background: Currently the incidence of short toddlers or called stunting is one of the nutritional problems experienced by toddlers in the world. One of the causes of the stunting problem is the delay in Early Breastfeeding Initiation (IMD) and non-exclusive breastfeeding. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends breastfeeding for at least 6 months. Breast milk is a nutritional intake that fits the needs that help the growth and development of children. Children who do not get enough breast milk mean they have poor nutritional intake which can cause malnutrition, one of which can cause the risk of stunting. Objectives: The study aimed to determine the relationship between the history of exclusive breastfeeding and the incidence of stunting in toddlers aged 24-60 months in the Sungai Kapih Health Center work area. Methods: The method of this study is observational analytic with a retrospective approach. The number of samples in this study was 72 toddlers. The instrument used to obtain secondary data in this study was the MCH handbook, and the instrument used to obtain primary data in this study was research observation sheets. The data were analyzed using the Fisher Exact test. Results: The results of the study showed that out of 72 toddlers, 36 toddlers experienced stunting, 37 toddlers were not given exclusive breastfeeding and 35 toddlers were given exclusive breastfeeding. Bivariate analysis showed that there was a relationship between the history of exclusive breastfeeding and the incidence of stunting. Conclusion: There is a relationship between the history of exclusive breastfeeding and the incidence of stunting in toddlers aged 24-60 months in the Sungai Kapih Health Center work area
Investigation of antioxidant activity from beetroot juice (Beta vulgaris L) as a healthy drink for the prevention of non-communicable disease
Non-communicable diseases can cause oxidative stress, which affects their pathophysiology. One of the recommended diets for preventing complications of non-communicable diseases (NCD) is a rich antioxidant diet. One of the foods rich in antioxidants is beetroots. This study aimed to assess the antioxidant content of locally obtained beetroot juice. Laboratory experimental methods were used to test the antioxidant activity of beetroot juice. Before the laboratory test, the panelists carried out a hedonic test. The beets were then juiced and checked for DPPH′ (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl). The beetroot was then juiced and checked for DPPH′ (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl). Statistical analysis was performed using the Kruskal–Wallis test. Results: The hedonic test showed that panelists preferred beetroot juice with lemon juice, with a 'like' range for the aroma and viscosity and a 'neutral-like' range for the taste and color of beetroot juice. The antioxidant content in 300 ml of beetroot juice was 53,34 ± 0,13%. In conclusion, beetroot juice has a high antioxidant content and health benefits in preventing NCD
Nutritional status of children in Central Sulawesi post-earthquake and tsunami: A study based on e-PPGBM data
The earthquake and tsunami on September 28, 2018, in Central Sulawesi had a severe impact on children's health and nutrition, particularly concerning malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies. This study compared the nutritional status of children in disaster-affected and unaffected areas. This study employed a cross-sectional design to assess changes in the prevalence of stunting, underweight, and wasting among children aged 6-23 months in Sigi Regency using data from the e-PPGBM System. The study analyzed data from three periods: before and after the disaster, with data from 10,894 children and 10,894 children. Statistical tests were used to identify changes in stunting, underweight, and wasting. The results showed that after the disaster, the average Z-scores of Height-for-Age (HAZ) and Weight-for-Height (WHZ) was significantly lower in the disaster-affected areas than in the unaffected areas (p = 0,00), indicating a sustainable impact on the growth and nutritional status of children. The conclusion of this study shows a significant decline in children's nutritional status in disaster-affected areas compared with unaffected areas. Prompt action and sustained recovery efforts are crucial to address the long-term impacts on children's growth and nutritio
The relationship between junk food consumption and other factors with the incidence of dysmenorrhea in adolescent girls
Dysmenorrhea has an impact on the disruption of daily activities and a decrease in physical conditions such as fatigue and lethargy, decreased appetite, and decreased sleep quality. More than 50% of women worldwide experience dysmenorrhea. The prevalence of dysmenorrhea in Indonesia is 64,25%. This study aimed to determine factors associated with the incidence of dysmenorrhea in adolescent girls. The study used a cross-sectional design and was conducted from May to June 2023. Using a random sampling technique, the sample consisted of 63 students at State Senior High School 11, South Tangerang. Data were collected by completing questionnaires on dysmenorrhea, junk food consumption, and sleep quality. Interviews were conducted for calcium intake data using a 2 x 24-hour food recall and measuring height and weight. Data analysis using chi-square tests. Results: There was a relationship between junk food consumption (p=0,022), sleep quality (p=0,035), calcium intake (p=0,030) and the incidence of dysmenorrhea. Meanwhile, there was no significant relationship between percent body fat (p=1,000), nutritional status (p=0,638) and the incidence of dysmenorrhea. In conclusion, junk food consumption, sleep quality, and calcium intake were associated with the incidence of dysmenorrhea. In contrast, body fat percentage and nutritional status were not associated with the incidence of dysmenorrhea in adolescent girls
