    The effect of Dadih for the prevention of iron deficiency anemia in adolescent girls 12-15 years old

    Adolescent girls are at risk of developing iron deficiency anemia. Dadih has high nutritional value and iron and probiotics. This study aimed to analyze the effect of administering Dadih to prevent iron deficiency anemia in adolescent girls aged 12-15. This study used a randomized controlled trial pre-posttest group design, which consisted of an intervention and control group totalling 40 participants taken randomly at the Sumatera Thawalib Parabek Bukittinggi Islamic Boarding School from February to June 2023. In both groups, serum ferritin and hemoglobin levels were measured before and after treatment for 14 days. The intervention group was administered 100 g of Dadih 1x a day, and the control group was administered a placebo. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon statistical and Paired T-test at a 95%CI. Results: There was a significant difference in the hemoglobin levels before and after treatment (p=0,003). There was no significant difference in serum ferritin levels before and after treatment (p=0,191). In conclusion, the administration of 100 g of dadih did not increase serum ferritin and hemoglobin levels, and the independent administration of 100 g of Dadih to prevent iron deficiency anemia still needs to be considered

    The influences of nutritional status and abdominal circumference systolic blood pressure in adult men

    The prevention and management of hypertension through healthy lifestyle modifications is a challenge for public health. The prevalence of hypertension among Indonesians was 34,1%. Lifestyle behaviors such as body mass index, central obesity, and sodium intake are associated with the risk of hypertension. This study aimed to analyze the influence of nutritional status and abdominal circumference on blood pressure in adult men. This cross-sectional research was conducted in Sukajadi Village, Bogor, between 2022-2023. The subjects were 73 purposively selected adult men. Data on subject characteristics were obtained through interviews. Anthropometric data were obtained by measuring abdominal circumference, body weight, and body height to assess the body mass index (BMI). Consumption data were collected using SQ-FFQ. The data analysis was performed using a linear regression test with a significance level of 95%. The results showed that Body mass index (p=0,007) and abdominal circumference (p=0,005) affected systolic blood pressure, while sodium intake (p=0,906) was not related to systolic blood pressure in adult men. Conclusions: Body mass index and abdominal circumference greatly influenced the systolic blood pressure. Further studies are needed to determine the various factors that influence systolic blood pressure and the risk of hypertension

    Background:Food is a basic human necessity for survival. The existence of food handlers provides an important role in maintaining food quality.  Food consumed must meet safety standards so as not to pose a health risk. So knowledge about personal hygiene and food sanitation is needed to be key in preventing the risk of contamination. Food handlers should gain increased knowledge and behavior through education to prevent health risks caused by lack of knowledgeObjectives: This study aims to explore the influence of education related to hygiene and sanitation through the media of videos, posters, and educational mirrors on increasing knowledge and attitudes of food handlers.Methods: This study uses the SLR method of special research design sourced from google scholar and, Pubmed from the last 10 years using inclusion and exclusion criteria in this study following the approach of Population / Problem, Intervention, Comparison Outcome and Study design type (PICOS).Results: The results included three articles that assessed the effects of education using video communication media, posters, and educational mirrors on improving the knowledge and attitudes of food handlers. The installation of personal hygiene posters is effective in all age groups, while visual media such as videos have a significant positive impact with visual media having a positive impact on increasing one's knowledge by 75%-87%.Conclusion: Education through media through the media of videos, posters, and educational mirrors can help increase the knowledge and attitude of food handlers, support safety and hygiene in food provision KeywordsHygiene education, communication media, knowledge and attitudes of food handler

    Background: The Golden Age period of children under five lasts from 0 months since the fetus in the womb until the age of 2 years. During this period, high protein intake is needed for the formation of the child's brain. Protein needs at that age must be met from animal protein, one of which is sourced from fish. One of the strategic alternatives in solving the problem of macro nutrition in toddlers is through nutrition education and assistance to improve the ability and awareness of families in preventing the risk of stunting in toddlers.Objectives: This study aims to improve the understanding and skills of mothers of toddlers in nutritious food processing in an effort to prevent stunting.Methods: This research study was conducted through training on nutritious food creation skills for mothers of toddlers with counseling and practice methods.Results: There was a significant increase in the insights and skills of activity participants regarding nutritious food creations, namely how to make nuggets made from mujair fish, insight into the potential of tilapia in preventing stunting before being given nutrition education in the form of counseling was 20%. Meanwhile, insight into the processing of fish food into nuggets and their mixed ingredients also increased by 40%. A significant increase also occurred in the participants' skills in how to make and create nuggets made from tilapia, these two indicators both increased by 80%.Conclusion: There was a significant increase in the insights and skills of the participants of the activity regarding nutritious food creations on how to make nuggets made from mujair fish.

    Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease characterized by an increase in blood sugar caused by disruption of the insulin hormone which has a function to maintain body homeostasis by lowering blood sugar levels. The expected goal after the implementation of this program is to increase the knowledge of cadres in compliance with diabetes mellitus management in cadres in Lemito District, Lomuli Village. This is intended for cadres with a total of 10 health cadres. The methods used in this activity include counseling and also providing Pre-tests and Post-tests. To find out the knowledge of cadres before and after being given counseling about Diabetes Mellitus. The results of the initial screening using a written pre-test question sheet showed that the cadres' knowledge of DM was around 6.1% where the results of the pre-test showed that the cadres did not know much about Diabetes Mellitus, and after the presentation of the material showed an increase in the cadres' knowledge of around 7.2% as evidenced by the written post-test question sheet

    Background: Pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan) is a type of legumes that is underutilized and not widely consumed. The utilization of pigeon pea as GABA-fermented drink have not yet been conducted. The Enhancement of GABA in pigeon pea is carried out by probiotic Lactiplantibacillus plantarum Dad-13. The enhancement of GABA in fermented pigeon pea drink will improve their functional effect and economic value.Objectives:  the aim of this study was to enhanced GABA content in fermented pigeon pea drink with various concentration of monosodium glutamate (MSG) using probiotic Lactiplantibacillus plantarum Dad-13.Methods: Randomized complete design was carried out in this study using experimental analysis. GABA content was determined using UPLC, total LAB was determined using spread plate method. Titration method was performed to determine the acidity and pH meter to determine the pH. Antioxidant capacity was determined using DPPH methodResults: The study showed a significant increase in GABA production, with the highest concentration reaching 92.07 mg/L in the treatment with 0.75% MSG. Additionally, there was an increase in the total count of lactic acid bacteria, total acidity, and antioxidant capacity, indicating an improvement in the physicochemical quality of the product. Organoleptic evaluation revealed panelists' preference for products with the addition of 0.25% and 0.75% MSG for taste, and 0% for texture.Conclusion: Fermentation of pigeon pea milk with the addition of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum Dad 13 and MSG successfully increased GABA production significantly, while also improving several aspects of the physicochemical and sensory quality of the product. These findings have important implications for the development of fermented pigeon pea milk as a new functional product enriched with GABA

    Tinjauan sistematis: Korelasi vitamin D terhadap Sel T regulator pada penderita lupus eritematosus sistemik

    Background: Vitamin D is linked to immunity and autoimmune diseases, including systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Autoimmune diseases often involve impaired regulation of regulatory T cells (Tregs). Despite numerous studies exploring the relationship between vitamin D and Tregs in SLE, the findings remain inconclusive.Objectives: To determine whether there is a relationship or correlation between vitamin D and regulatory T cells in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus based on existing research articles employing different research methods.Methods: We conducted a systematic literature review following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines from February to May 2024. We sourced articles from Google Scholar, PubMed, and MDPI, focusing on research published between 2014 and 2024. Inclusion criteria were relevance to the topic and availability in full text, while exclusions were animal studies, research older than ten years, and articles not available in full text. Seven articles met the criteria and were reviewed.Results: Out of the seven articles reviewed, five found a correlation between vitamin D levels and the ratio and function of Tregs in SLE patients. Specifically, higher levels of vitamin D were associated with increased suppression of Tregs.Conclusion: The results of studies on vitamin D levels and Tregs in SLE patients are inconsistent. Further evaluation and additional research are required to determine the potential clinical benefits of vitamin D management in SLE therapy.

    Background: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) cases are increasing every year, IDF 2021 data shows DM cases aged 20-79 years with a total of 537 million people (10,5%), predicted to continue to increase in 2030 to 643 million people (11,3%) . DM sufferers can basically live a normal life if they follow four pillars, one of which is complying with education. It is important for patients to receive education in choosing foods that contain a low glycemic index because they are more slowly absorbed by the body into glucose, so that glucose levels in the body become more controlled. DM sufferers are advised to consume foods with a low glycemic index because these foods are more slowly absorbed by the body into glucose so that glucose levels in the body are more controlled. The more often DM patients receive education, the better their behavior, especially in choosing foods with a low glycemic index.Objectives: Knowing the effect of providing food glycemic index education on blood glucose levels in type 2 DM patients at Palembang Social Health Center.Methods: The research was carried out at the Palembang Social Health Center for 5 months, namely August to November 2021. Data was collected through measurements, namely body weight and height, interviews in the form of 3x24 hour recall and measurement of blood glucose levels. The type of research used is quantitative research using a Quasi Experimental research design. The research used a pretest and posttest with control group design with 46 respondents. The statistical analysis method used is the Paired T-test. The results of the dependent t-test between the treatment and comparison groups had a p value <0,05 which was equally significant, so it was continued with the independent t-test.Results: The results showed that there was a significant difference in blood glucose levels before and after providing counseling using posters (p=0,002) and booklets (p=0,004).Conclusion: Booklet media had more influence on increasing respondents' knowledge compared to using other media such as posters

    Background: Soil transmitted helminth(STH) infection is an infection caused by a group of nematode worms that is transmitted through parasite larvae or eggs that develop in the soil and then come into direct contact with humans. Helminth infections have a relationship with hygiene practices and environmental sanitation, in addition to adequate nutritional intake that makes the body's immune system strong so that it can prevent and fight infections, one of these important nutrients is protein.Objectives: To analyze the relationship between hygiene, environmental sanitation and protein intake on helminthiasis infection among toddlers aged 24-59 monthsMethods: Analytical research using a cross-sectional study in Atu Lintang District, Central Aceh Regency conducted in August-September 2023. The subjects used in this study were toddlers aged 24-59 months as many as 100 toddlers whose sampling used purposive sampling method. Data were collected by observation and interviewing the hygiene questionnaire, environmental sanitation and Semi quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (SQ-FFQ) to determine the adequacy of protein intake. Stool sample examination using the Kato Katz method. Data were analyzed using the Fisher Exact test with a significance level of 95%.Results: The results showed that 9% of toddlers were infected with STH and 91% were not infected with STH. Hand washing (p=0,002) and nail hygiene (p=0,000) were significantly associated with STH infection while footwear use (p=1,000), environmental sanitation (p=0,086) and protein intake (0.078) showed no significant association.Conclusion: In this study, the hygiene practices of hand washing and nail hygiene had a significant association with helminthiasis infection

    Background: The toddler period has golden age that caracterized with growth and development. Malnutrition has a disorder of nutritional status, both undernutrition and overnutrition.Objectives: To determine association between the history of birth and the mother body composition with nutrition status in children under five years.Methods: analytic observational with design cross sectional study. Technique sampling was purposive sampling that  collected 310 respondents. The study was conducted in Tilango Health Center working area, Gorontalo Regency in January – June 2023. The variables of the study included birth history (birth weight and birth length), maternal body composition (maternal age, height, weight, percent body fat, body mass index and muscle mass) and nutritional status of toddlers (indicators of WAZ, HAZ, WHZ). Processing nutritional status data using the WHO Antro application. The analysis data was used Pearson  Correlation test with a value of α= 0,05. Results: Bivariate analysis was explained  pearson correlation  of birth weight with WAZ (r = 0,152), HZA (r = 0,130), maternal weight with WAZ (r = 0,234) and WHZ (r = 0,165), maternal body height with HAZ (r = 0,126), maternal BMI of toddlers with HAZ (r = 0,470),  percent body fat with WAZ (r = 0,118) and WHZ (r = 0,116), muscle mass with WAZ (r = 0,134), HAZ (r = 0,166). There were association between variabel (p < 0,05).Conclusion: History of birth weight, birth length, maternal weight, maternal height, BMI, percent body fat and muscle mass of toddler mothers have positive correlation with the nutritional status in toddlers.Keywords Toddler, body composition, birth histor
