An exploration of water imagery in Virginia Woolf’s To the Lighthouse and The Waves

It has found significant space in the works of modernist artists ranging from writers to painters. One such modernist writer is Virginia Woolf who has repeatedly incorporated water imagery in her writings. Her personal and professional lives both contain special significance of water. It has been used in various works of Woolf to establish relationship between characters, nature and emotions. The fact that is noticeable in the texts is that with the passage of time everything in life changes but water remains constant bearing evidence to the changing phases of their lives. The changing phases of characters as well as the changing of time can be showcased with the help of water imagery. Thus, this dissertation seeks to observe the use of water imagery in Virginia Woolf’s two novels namely To the Lighthouse and The Waves. Bangladesh has suffered for many crisis including
Rohingya but the exodus started from August 2017 has crossed all previous record. This was
termed as a text book example for ethnic cleansing. Host communities have supported from the
very beginning of the influx and it continues. However, people of Ukhia & Teknaf have their
own social & economic issues. These places are few of the less developed places of Bangladesh
and Rohingya influx have brought immense pressure on them to cope with the situation.
Children remains as the most vulnerable in any crisis and it is not different for children’s from
Teknaf & Ukhia.
Children’s experiences in Cox’s Bazar and the specific vulnerabilities they face are distinct from
adults’. At the same time, children themselves are best placed to articulate their own needs and
desires. Children in host communities stated that they worry about their safety when leaving their home
and immediate neighborhood. These concerns significantly limit children’s freedom of
movement and their ability to have a sense of normality in their environment. Children are
currently unable or limited in their ability to play freely or learn in preparation for their future.
Open areas that were once playgrounds are now occupied by the tents of refugees. Children
indicated that they are also concerned about the cleanliness of their living environment and the
impact of that on their health.
This study was designed to identify the additional needs of the host community children to
protect their best interest in the crisis. This research was based on the output from both primary

The concept of urban sustainability is gaining attention to the city side stakeholders across the world. This study aims to examine city dwellers‟ perception about green spaces and explore the relationship between green space and urban sustainability. Based on a social survey, conducted among 78 residents from Dhaka North and South City Corporations, this study found that current state of green space was not in satisfactory condition at all. It further revealed city dwellers‟ low level of satisfaction with the existing utilization of green space in Dhaka. City dwellers‟ perception of inadequate green spaces has negative social implications. Insights from this study may assist city authorities and national government to create more green spaces and formulate policies for better utilization of these green spaces towards enhancing urban livability in Dhaka city.Sultana RaziaM. Implementing electronic government procurement (e-GP) in Bangladesh: a study on 10 district LGED offices

practices (Abdallah, 2015; cited in Naeem, 2016). In Bangladesh, the public procurement at
local level is also subject to pressure of local powerful personnel and political leaders where the
non-political tenderers are often forced not to participate in the tendering process (Abdallah,
2015). The management of public procurement through the application of information
technology, called e-GP can address this malpractice. Further, the e-GP promotes competition
through participation of local as well as region bidders and government purchases are processed
in more efficient, transparent and accountable manner. According to a World Bank study, the e-
GP could save more than 15 per cent of the government's procurement costs (Mahmood, 2013).
Grounded on these benefits, e-GP was introduced in the Local Government Engineering
Department (LGED) in 2010-11 under the auspices of the Second Public Procurement Reform
Project (PPRP II). The overall purpose of this study is to assess the implementation of e-GP in
selected LGED offices, identify the challenges of implementing e-GP in various stages of
procurement cycle in LGED and find out the measures to overcome those challenges. Since most
of LGED’s procurements are done by the offices of District Executive Engineers of LGED, 10
such offices are randomly selected for data collection. A questionnaire survey has been
administered among the officials of these offices. Survey data have been presented using
statistical tools and with descriptions. Prior to presentation of anecdotal evidence from survey,
the secondary information has been summarized which were collected from various documents
and statistics published by LGED, CPTU and other organizations. This study identified key
challenges for implementing e-GP in various stages of procurement cycle in district LGED

motivate them, leading to an effective process of learning. Researchers have identified
the problem that technology will create a passive learning process if the technology
used does not promote critical thinking, meaning-making or metacognition. Since its
introduction, augmented reality (AR) has been shown to have good potential in making
the learning process more active, effective and meaningful. This is because its advanced
technology enables users to interact with virtual and real-time applications and brings
the natural experiences to the user. In addition, the merging of AR with education has
recently attracted research attention because of its ability to allow students to be
immersed in realistic experiences. Therefore, this thesis paper is based on the research
that has been conducted on AR. The review describes the application of AR on primary
education using individual “topic cards” for different topics of primary school syllabus.
The review of the results of the research shows that, overall, AR technologies have a
positive result and potentiality that can be adapted in education. The review also
indicates the advantages and limitations of AR which could be addressed in future
