Isolation and characterization of low-density polyethylene degrading and biosurfactant-producing bacteria from soils
This thesis is submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology, 2019.Cataloged from PDF version of thesis.Includes bibliographical references (page 52-57).Microorganisms play a very important role in the biological decomposition of various materials in the natural environment, this is called biodegradation. Synthetic materials including plastic and polyethylene waste accumulate in the environment and pose an ever-increasing ecological threat to humankind and the overall ecosystem on earth. Biodegradation of these plastic wastes using potent microbial strains could provide a solution to the problem. In the present study, the microorganisms responsible for biodegradation were isolated and characterized from local samples contaminated with hydrocarbon polymers. The experiment was conducted over a series of screening methods. The primary screening involved culturing collected samples for over 40 days to screen out low-density polyethylene (LDPE) non-degrading bacteria, followed by observation of polyethylene glycol (PEG) utilization by the formation of a clear zone. This led to the isolation of 43 different colonies. Secondary screening further allowed for selection of 14 different isolates that were able to form biofilm over the polymer surface. Finally, the tertiary screening allowed for the selection of 10 different isolates that are confirmed LDPE-degraders. From continuous culturing for 36 days, 8 out of 10 isolates were able to survive and propagate in minimal salt broth, namely, Staphylococcus sp., Acinetobacter sp., Clostridium sp., Bacillus sp., and Lysinibacillus sp. Finally, organism able to produce anionic and cationic biosurfactant were identified as Clostridium novyitype A and Staphylococcus massiliensis respectively.Romi Marina GeorgeB. Biotechnolog
In silico drug designing against Klebsiella pneumoniae adhesin protein
This thesis is submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology, 2019.Cataloged from PDF version of thesis.Includes bibliographical references (page 29-36).Klebsiella pneumoniae, is one of the causative agents of many nosocomial infections. In spite of
having a plethora of information on the virulent factors of this bacteria, no definite vaccines have
yet been designed or developed in order to prevent the infections caused by the multidrug resistant
pathogen. Hence, taking this in account, the present study designed an in silico peptide vaccine
against K. pneumoniae, by predicting both B-cell and T-cell epitopes which is followed by
molecular docking. In this study, peptide sequences of Type 1 fimbrial adhesin protein of 28 strains
of K. pneumoniae were retrieved and then tested by in silico methods to identify the conserved
antigenic portions, present in all the 28 strains of the pathogen. VTLQRGSAY and
IYDSRTDKPW were found to be the most potential T-cell and B-cell epitope, among all the other
antigenic portions. Furthermore, the T-cell epitope VTLQRGSAY, when docked with HLA-A
protein, fitted perfectly inside the groove of it. These results prove that the designed epitopes could
be a potent candidate for vaccine development against K. pneumoniae.Muntasirul HoqB. Biotechnolog
Money laundering and terrorist financing activities and its prevention: a study on bKash’s AML&CFT department
This internship report is submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Business Administration, 2019.Cataloged from PDF version of internship report.Includes bibliographical references (page 45).bKash started its journey only with 12 people in 2011, since than it has come a long way. In a span of few years of time bKash has become the leading MFS (Mobile Financial service) of Bangladesh. bKash has created an impact in the life of not only the rural but also the urban people of Bangladesh. bKash is in a mission of providing financial service which will be convenient, affordable and reliable. bKash is neither a bank-led nor Telco-led company rather its business model is totally different from traditional banking system. Unlike traditional banking bKash does not focus on credit or savings instead what it does is it drives transactions and earns revenue from the fees. bKash has 200,000 active agents all over Bangladesh who offers cash-in and cash-out services to the users. bKash’s agents basically act as depository of electronic money while the transaction are being done through customer’s cell phone. But this platform is being misused by some criminal minded people who are basically corrupted and has no moral values. Everyday a lot of people using bKash platform are becoming victims of serious criminal offence like money laundering and terrorist financing. For some reasons day by day ML&TF (money laundering and terrorist financing) activities are increasing at an alarming rate which can be potential threat for bKash. While working with bKash’s AML&CFT (Anti-money laundering and combating Financial Terrorism) department, I have observed that bKash has a fully dedicated department to monitor and control money laundering and financial terrorism related activities. ML&FT (Money laundering and Financial Terrorism) is a huge drawback for bKash. There is particular guideline provided by Bangladesh Bank to combat and prevent this type of illegal activities. The purpose of the report is to find out about Money laundering and terrorist financing activities and its prevention. The analysis and survey part of the report focus on the bKash customer and agent awareness about money laundering and terrorist financing .Furthermore it measures the effectiveness of the preventive measures taken by bKash to combat and monitor any type of ML&TF activities. I have also included my personal observations and insight based on the tasks I was assigned to do during my internship period. This report has delivered the information about how effectively bKash is performing all its tasks to combat ML& TF (Money laundering and terrorist financing) risks through AML&CFT Department. This department very efficiently handles all the money laundering and terrorist financing related
v
issues. The work process of the department has been explained in details. Based on the observations after conducting the survey, I have tried to find out what challenges bKash is facing in the process combating risks related to money laundering and terrorist financing both internally and externally. At the end of the report, I have incorporated some recommendations which I have got after analyzing the survey data.Jerin Tasneem JyotiB. Business Administratio

Nogor Baul: fusion music in contemporary Bangladesh
This thesis is submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Social Science in Anthropology, 2019.Cataloged from PDF version of thesis.Includes bibliographical references (page 28).Nogor Baul who is also known as James, is a very important figure in our country. Through his
great contribution he has made a special place in the hearts of the people. He flourished rock music
in the context of Bangladeshi music. Which was nearly impossible without him. Fusion music was
already existing in Bangladesh but Norgor Baul expended it through his unique expertise and indepth
knowledge. He is not a literal baul but his charismatic talent took fusion music to another
level by combining classical music with westernized musical form. Modernization was his key
element to further proceed. Thus, I eagerly focused on the utilization of fusion music through the
scape of Nogor Baul in contemporary Bangladesh. Especially, the way perceived by Nagar Baul
in a particular objective will help us to understand the depth of this paper clearly. This paper will
further analyze the consequential changes of fusion music in Bangladesh. Also, it was very
important to find out people’s preferences over music from different class, structure and ages to
interpret this paper in a descriptive way. As, almost 90% of my informants expressed love for the
music of Nogor Baul but 55% of the overall informants expressed ignorance towards classic music.
Necessary reasons are provided in the further discussion of this paper.Asma Ul Hosn

products to consumer. During my working period I have sent service order form, change request as
the company’s procedure. I have also identified what were the working responsibilities of other
sector’s employees of marketing department at Link3 Technologies Ltd. Departments I have identified
were Corporate, Retail, web development and strategic initiatives. After understanding the
responsibilities of marketing people, I have worked on understanding what are the further working
process of the company. While I was doing internship, I found that there is some process which a
marketing executive have to follow to provide services that has been described as marketing mix. I
have found some limitations collecting information for my internship report and also observed some
problem as well as faced some challenges. But on the other hand, during the period of my Internship I
