Arabic as a Source of Foreign Legal Reference: Its Relevance and Challenges in Legal Education in Indonesia

    No full text
Arabic is one of the primary source languages for various international legal documents, bilateral treaties, and the legal systems of countries with Sharia-based or mixed legal frameworks. This article explores the relevance of Arabic language proficiency as a component of foreign legal literacy within legal education in Indonesia. Using a qualitative approach through literature review and curriculum analysis, the study finds that mastery of Arabic significantly enhances the comprehension of foreign legal texts, including international agreements, commercial laws, and transnational civil law. Nonetheless, several challenges persist, such as the lack of standardized teaching materials, inconsistencies in legal terminology, and the limited number of qualified instructors capable of integrating language and legal studies effectively. This study recommends the incorporation of legal Arabic into law school curricula, particularly in areas focusing on international law, comparative law, and legal translatio

Implementation of Meaningful Participation in Every Stage of Local Regulation Formation

    No full text
Public participation in forming legislation is necessary in the framework of people’s sovereignty. The existence of a mechanism for channelling public aspirations and views on the draft of a regulation is guaranteed by the Constitution as part of the implementation of the right to be heard, the right to be considered, and the right to be explained. This article aims to define public involvement in each stage of local regulation formation concerning the principle of people’s sovereignty and investigate the mechanisms that enable meaningful public participation at each stage of law and regulation formation. This article employs a normative juridical research method using statutory and conceptual approaches. This article shows that not all stages of local regulation formation can incorporate public participation. This article concluded that among the six stages of local regulation formation, only three stages can be implemented using community participation through citizens’ rights to be heard, the right to be considered, and the right to be explained. The three stages are planning, drafting, and discussion. Currently, there are several ways of public participation regulated in laws and regulations for the law-making process: FGD and public hearings. However, in the spirit of popular sovereignty, there are also ways of channelling opinions through petitions and demonstrations

Repositioning Public Consultation In Land Acquisition For Public Interest: A Legal Reform Perspective In Indonesia

    No full text
Land acquisition for public purposes is an important instrument in national development that often raises issues, particularly regarding the protection of the rights of affected communities. One crucial aspect that is often questioned is the implementation of public consultation. Normatively, Law No. 2 of 2012 on Land Acquisition for Development for Public Purposes and its implementing regulations have regulated the mechanism for public consultation. However, practices in the field show the dominance of government actors without balanced participation from civil society, resulting in procedural injustice and potential agrarian conflicts. This indicates the need to reconceptualise the repositioning of public consultation as an instrument of democratisation in the land acquisition process. This study departs from two problem formulations, namely: (1) how public consultation is regulated in land acquisition for public interests in Indonesia; and (2) how the reconceptualisation of the repositioning of public consultation can strengthen land acquisition for public interests. Meanwhile, the research method used is normative legal research, with a legislative, conceptual, and comparative approach. The results of this study show that, first, the current regulation of public consultation is still administrative-formal in nature and does not guarantee the substantive involvement of the community. Second, public consultation as regulated in Law 2/2012 and its derivatives has not been able to be implemented de facto

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia due to impaired insulin secretion and/or action. The increasing global (approx. 589 million adults) and national (11.7% in Indonesia in 2023) prevalence highlights the critical need for effective therapies. This urgency drives the search for local alternatives like Eleutherine palmifolia (Dayak Onion) and Imperata cylindrica (Cogon Grass), traditionally used to control blood glucose. This review aims to examine their antidiabetic activity, identify multi-target mechanisms, and explore their potential synergy on insulin sensitivity. The method employed a narrative literature review of 23 scientific articles (2013–2025) sourced from PubMed, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, and ResearchGate. Results show E. palmifolia lowers blood glucose and improves insulin resistance through pancreatic β-cell regeneration, α-glucosidase inhibition, and antioxidant activity. I. cylindrica reduces oxidative stress and enhances glucose utilization via anti-inflammatory mechanisms and improved mitochondrial function. In conclusion, the combination offers potential for a stronger synergistic effect in improving insulin sensitivity and blood glucose control. Recommendations include essential further testing through in vivo combination trials and toxicity tests to prove safety and effectiveness. Furthermore, in-depth exploration of molecular pathways (e.g., GLUT4, AMPK, insulin gene expression) is required to clarify the synergistic mechanismDiabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia due to impaired insulin secretion and/or action.
