Current state and problems of male childcare workers in childcare centers in Nara Prefecture
Recently, the number of men attending early childcare training schools has been increasing. However, even after receiving such qualifications, they will experience difficulty gaining employment at childcare centers. Why don't childcare centers employ more men? How are male childcare workers evaluated in Nara Prefecture? The current state of male childcare workers in Nara Prefecture has never been examined, and research on the evaluation of male childcare workers at childcare centers is scant. Therefore, this paper aims to clarify and evaluate the current state of male childcare workers in Nara Prefecture. Analysis results show that the number of male childcare workers in Nara Prefecture is above the national average. Male childcare workers are under appreciated, and childcare centers don't consider male childcare workers useful for a child nurturing environment. However, the rate of the participation of fathers in child rearing at childcare centers where male childcare workers exist is higher than childcare centers without such male workers. The existence of male childcare workers not only promotes father's participation in child rearing but also helps prevent decreases in the child nurturing functions of the home and the region.研究報告departmental bulletin pape

Recollections by Junior College Students of Negative Behavior of Teachers
The purpose of this study is to investigate negative things that junior college students recalled about their teachers from previous years of education. A total of 118 junior college students were asked to write down negative things they remembered about their teachers in preschool (kindergartners & nursery school), elementary school, junior high school, and high school. Participants remembered more negative things about high-school teachers than they did about elementary school and junior high school teachers. They also recalled fewer negative things about preschool teachers than they did about teachers from later years of education. The kind of negative things that the junior college students remembered about their past teachers varied depending on when they were taught by the teachers. The most common type of negative things that participants remembered were scoldings and punishments (corporal punishment, etc.).資料departmental bulletin pape
<Report>A Report on the Routine Duties of Dietitians in Mass Feeding Facilities
There are two types of the dietitian license, namely "dietitian" and "national registered dietitian". The dietitian law was revised in 2000, which provided a clear definition of the duties of national registered dietitian. However the difference in daily work share with the other dietitians has not been clear. Therefore, the questionnaire was sent for the purpose of knowing the actual conditions of work share, and their daily works in mass feeding facilities were investigated in this report. The consequence could not prove any clear difference of the work share between the two types of dietitian. The difference that occurs from each employment system is larger than the legal difference between the two license types ; dietitian's works are usually determined by whether they are employed directly by facilities or they are dispatched from commission companies of food service.資料departmental bulletin pape
Current-year tree seedlings in a warm-temperate evergreen forest on Mt. Kasugayama, a World Heritage Site in Nara, Japan
This study investigated current-year tree seedlings in a warm-temperate evergreen forest on Mt. Kasugayama, a World Heritage Site in Nara Japan. In 24 study plots (total area = 980 m^2) there were 1681 current-year tree seedlings, of 42 species. Symplocos prunifolia, Abies firma, Castanopsis cuspidata, Eurya japonica, Parthenocissus tricuspidata, Ampelopsis leeoides, and Rhus tricocarpa were abundant in the study pots ; dufing May and November of 2002, current-year tree seedlings of 55 species were found in a 45ha area. Mega- and mesophanerophytes (MM) and mesopharerophytes (M) represented 49.9% and 45.3%, respectively, of the life-form spectra of current-year tree seedlings, while nanophanerophytes (N) had a low value of only 4.8%. Of the 55 species that produced current-year seedlings, 9.1% were non-native.論文departmental bulletin pape
<Original>A study on the Estimation of Nutrient Intake Using Food Frequency Questionnaire Based on Food Groups
The energy and nutrient intakes estimated by the food frequency questionnaire (FFQg) method based on food groups were compared with the results from the weighed dietary record method. The correlation coefficients between the two methods for energy, fat, protein, carbohydrate, calcium, iron and dietary fiber intakes were higher than 0.4 and the intakes of those nutrients were not significantly different between the two methods according to paired t-test (p>0.05). The ratio of the value obtained by the FFQg method to that obtained by the record method ranged from 74% (dietary fiber) to 110% (salt). The correlation coefficients for food intakes estimated by the two methods were as follows : 0.44 for cereals, 0.83 for pulses, 0.44 for fruits, 0.53 for green-yellow vegetables, 0.63 for other vegetables and mushrooms, 0.43 for fishes, 0.47 for eggs, and 0.78 for milks. The correlation of 10 of 16 food groups was significant at a p<0.05 level. These results showed that the FFQg is a useful method for estimating energy and nutrient intakes. However, the FFQg method tested on 122 students who were beginners of dietary questionnaires suggested that the probability of errors in their answers is comparatively high.論文departmental bulletin pape
<Original>Polysemy and Homonymy : Difficulties for Japanese Learners
This essay refers to semantic categories of English, polysemy and homonymy, and also to vocabulary learning by Japanese learners. Categorization of these two is not easy for non-native speakers like the Japanese. When they learn English as a foreign language, they might, for example, come across two types of entries : first, 'lie^1' and 'lie^2', and second, 1 to 4 under one heading 'lip'. The word 'lie' is an eample of homonymy, as it has two independent entries, while 'lip' exhibits polysemy because there are several meanings under one entry. In what way do dictionary editors classify a word into these two categories? What are the criteria that differentiate between polysemy and homonymy? This study presents several examples from English, where Japanese learners have some difficulties. It concludes that dictionary editors choose between polysemy and homonymy on the basis of semantic and etymological criteria, taking cultural background into consideration.論文departmental bulletin pape
<Original>The Current Situation and Problems on the Practical Usage of Information Technology among First-Grade Students at a Junior College
This paper aims ot clarify the current situation and the problems on the practical usage of information and computer literacy among first-grade Students at Nara Saho College. Students at the college were asked to complete a questionnaire on issues related to the use of computers, including computer experience in high school, attractiveness of software, use of the Internet, and their motivation to become competent computer users. The results of the questionnaire are as follows : college students evaluate their competence to be insufficient although they use computers more frequently in college than in high school ; they tend to prefer learning how to use the Internet and send email to mastering applications such as MS-Word and MS-Excel ; they passively attempt to develop information literacy as a way to solve problems and answer questions in their field. These results suggest that it is important for the computer science curriculum at the college to develop the critical thinking of college students and to ecounrage them to acquire interactive and integrated information literacy.論文departmental bulletin pape
<Original>Fraying by Sika deer (Cervus nippon TEMMINCK) and tree species preference in a warm-temperate evergreen forest on Mt. Kasugayama, Nara, Japan
The relationship between fraying by Sika deer (Cervus nippon TEMMINCK) and tree species preference was studied in a warm-temperate evergreen forest on Mt. Kasugayama, Japan. The forest was given as a World Heritage status in 1998. The proportion of trees frayed by deer among the total number of sampled trees (N=2351) was 2.6%. The height of lower limits of fraying on stems was 41.0±21.0cm (mean±SD), which was significantly different from lower limits of bark stripping (28.5±16.4cm). However, the height of upper limits was 83.9±23.3cm, which was not significantly different to upper limits of bark stripping (77.1±18.2cm). The relationship between fraying and DBH distribution is also discussed in this paper. Sixty-eight trees of 22 species (e. g. Abies firma, Podocarpus nagi, Illicum religiosum, Neolitsea asiculata) were found to be frayed among 2351 randomly sampled trees (H>1.3 m) of 55 species. It was found that bucks tend to prefer tree species which contain essential oil. This result suggests a relationship between fraying for territory and tree species preference, although fraying for the removal of velvet is generalized.論文departmental bulletin pape
