Medically Significant Hypersensitivity Reaction to Dapsone: A Case Report
Get PDFThe drug Dapsone is a component of the World Health Organization multidrug therapy being used against leprosy. Although it has shown a good efficacy during the years, a few subjects develop adverse drug reactions associated with dapsone .We report a case of a patient who was prescribed dapsone as part of multiple drug therapy for leprosy following which he developed Dapsone induced Hypersensitivity Syndrome (DHS). He was prescribed steroids with a tapering dose. His condition worsened after weaning of the oral steroids. He also developed steroid-induced diabetes which was stabilized using anti-diabetic drugs

Managing Antibiotic Associated Diarrhea With Pseudomembranous Colitis: A Case Report
Get PDFAntiobiotic associated diarrhea is a usual adverse event during antibiotic therapy. We present the case of a 32-year-old female diagnosed with diarrhea induced by antibiotics. After eradication of Helicobacter pylori by using antibiotics, she presented with hemorrhagic stools. The faecal examination was positive for, Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) although no toxins were detectable. Vancomycin was initiated for the C. difficile infection but the condition worsened due to treatment non-compliance. Finally oral metronidazole was prescribed. Stool abnormality improved and faecal test became negative after metronidazole treatment

Depression: An Epidemic in Sikkim
Get PDFINTRODUCTION: Depression is a common medical problem which is affecting people of all ages, genders, different socioeconomic groups, and religions in India and all over the world. If left untreated, it can lead to suicidal tendency followed by death. The second leading cause of death today among children and adolescents is suicide and youth suicide has become a significant public health problem. Various kinds of behavioral pattern of the people such as ideation, attempt to suicide can lead to death. So it can be considered as an intricate and multifactorial phenomenon. Along with many of the known risk factors like psychiatric disorders, instability, and drug abuse, depression is the one of the serious mental illnesses which is commonly associated with the suicidal tendency.AIM: To assess the level of prevalence of depression and associated symptoms, this cross-sectional study was done in Sikkim among 982 individuals.MATERIALS AND METHOD: The questionnaire based study consisted of 421 (42.88%) males and 561 (57.12%) females.RESULTS: A statistically significant(p =0.001) relation was found between depressive disorder among males and unemployment. However, Depression among females was attributed to marriage-related problems and affairs.CONCLUSION: There is an urgent need to develop health education packages to avert this public health problem

Get PDFHuman mandibular premolars gained popularity as they have complex root and root canal morphology. Multiple roots and canals are more common in mandibular first premolars when compared to mandibular second premolars. The occurrence of three root canals and separate foramina in mandibular second premolars is not common. In this case report, endodontic management of a three-rooted mandibular second premolar is discussed
