Get PDFOral Lichen planus (OLP) or lichen ruber planus is was first described by Wilson in 1869 and affects about 0.5-1% of the population and 2.6% of the Indian population. It is more frequently present in the female population with age usually above 50 years which is inconsistent with the present case. The rate of malignant transformation of OLP is quite low, although erythematous OLP has a higher incidence. The diagnosis of OLP is done on the basis of clinical examination (oral and skin lesions), biopsy and direct immunofluorescence and its management is aimed mainly at palliation of the symptoms. Aesthetic Ignorance: The Prevalence of Traumatized Anterior Teeth among Adolescents in Ghaziabad District, Uttar Pradesh, India
Get PDFINTRODUCTION: Trauma to the anterior teeth, which having various harmful sequelae, also can damage one’s self-esteem and confidence.AIM: To document the prevalence of traumatized anterior teeth among adolescents in Ghaziabad District, Uttar Pradesh, IndiaMATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients aged between 12-19 years were screened for traumatic injuries to their anterior teeth were selected as study subjects and their type of fracture was recorded according to the standard questionnaire from Oral Health Survey WHO format 2013. Apart from Descriptive statistics, the t-test and Odd’s Ratio (OR) was calculated for statistical analysis.RESULTS: The prevalence of trauma was found out to be 16.10 % while most anterior trauma was seen in adolescents aged 18-19 (105) years, followed by 12-15 years (101) and 16-17 Years (87). The highest fracture was enamel only and males were more affected than females. The maximum trauma was attributed to Accidents (103,37.2%) followed by fall (94, 32.1%) and this was statistically significantCONCLUSION: There is a need for patient education in Ghaziabad District to treat their fractures, lest it leads to further dental complication, apart for being aesthetically unpleasant

Bizarre Radiographic Finding of Intraoral Neurofibroma: A Case Report
Get PDFNeurofibroma(NF) is one of the common well known autosomal dominant inheritable entity with a prevalence of one per 3000 people. Clinically, there are two types of NF:NF 1 with 90% occurrence along with 7 subtypes and NF2. It is a genetic disorder and benign peripheral nerve sheath tumor. It has a neural origin with presence of café –au-lait spots along with multiple nodules over the skin and all over the body. It might be associated with bone malformation and sometimes the central nervous systems is also involved. Diagnosis of neurofibroma is based on clinical criteria. The frequency of oral manifestations is debated in the literature. Some authors report a frequency of 4-7% of cases, whereas others suggest that these manifestations are present in up to 72% of cases. Radiomorphometric Localization of Mental Foramen and Mandibular Canal using Cone Beam Computed Tomography as an Aid to Gender Determination- A Retrospective Study
Get PDFAIM: The present study aimed at evaluating the role of mental foramen and mandibular canal in gender determination using CBCT.METHODOLOGY: A total number of 73 volumes of CBCT of the mandible was evaluated. Four measurements were used to assess the bucco-lingual and supero-inferior location of mandibular canal and the supero-inferior location of mental foramen was determined using two measurements on both right and left sides of the mandible. Inter and intra-observer variability was analyzed with help of t-test.RESULTS: Good intra-observer and inter-observer agreement was noted with regard to all the six measurements. The mean of all the measurements of mental nerve foramen and mandibular canal was found to be higher in males than females, however, significant difference was noted with regard to Superior Mental foramen (SMeF) and Superior Inferior Alveolar Canal (SMC) (p=0.037, p<0.001 respectively) on the right side and SIAC and Inferior Inferior Alveolar Canal (IIAC), (p=0.015, p=0.046 respectively) on the left side.CONCLUSION: The results of the present study suggest that SMeF, SIAC and IIAC may be used for gender determination. Further, either side of mandible can be used for this purpose. CBCT was found to be a useful modality in this study for sexual dimorphism
