Background: Beta thalassemia may have some oral manifestations. Oral mucosa ulcer may be one of the oral manifestations of beta-thalassemia. The oral ulcer may resemble recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS). This current case report aims to present an aphthous oral ulcer as a manifestation in young adult women with beta-thalassemia. Case report: A 28-year-old woman complained of recurrent painful oral ulcers in the labial mucosa. She was diagnosed with beta-thalassemia intermedia three years before. The ulcer may take 3-4 weeks to heal completely. Intraoral examination revealed two yellowish ulcers, 5 mm and 10 mm, surrounded by an erythematous halo, regular margin on left lips mucosa, oral ulcer pain scale measured medium level by visual analogue scale (VAS). The oral aphthous-like ulcer was taken for diagnosis in this case. Topical treatment was given to the oral ulcer using chlorine dioxide gel three times daily. After 10 days, the oral aphthous-like ulcer was healed. Conclusion: An oral aphthous-like ulcer may be the oral manifestation in beta-thalassemia patients, and the oral ulcer may respond well to topical treatment commonly used in recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) patients. Hence, it is important to recognize oral conditions as one clinical manifestation in beta-thalassemia patients and choose the appropriate treatment to accelerate oral ulcer healing

The Effect of Bonding Agents IV Generation and Universal on Shear Bond Strength of Nanofiller Resin Composites on Enamel

    Get PDF
Introduction: Composite resins require a bonding material in their attachment to the tooth surface. IV generation is the gold standard because it has high bond strength in tooth structure and durability in long-term use with the total-etch technique. Universal bonding is the newest generation that can be applied in total-etch, self-etch, or selective etch, and it has high bond strength to the enamel. The measurement of the strength by the bonding material against the tooth surface can be measured by using a shear bond strength test. Objective: To determine the effect of generation IV and universal bonding (total-etch, self-etch) on the shear bond strength of nanofiller composite resin on the enamel surface. Methods: A total of 30 mandibular premolars were divided into three groups. In the first group, bonding generation IV (Optibond FL, Kerr) was used. Universal bonding (Optibond Universal, Kerr) were used in the second group as total-etch, and in self-etch in the third group. The composite resin used was a nanofiller composite resin (Filtek Z350XT, 3M ESPE). After restorations were applied, specimens were stored in incubator at 37ËšC for 24 hours and then tested at 0.5 mm/min with universal testing machine. Results: one-way ANOVA test showed that there was a significant difference in each treatment group (p<0.05), and there was a significant difference in the generation IV bonding with the universal bonding in self-etch technique at the Tukey post-hoc test (p<0.05). Conclusion: There is an effect of generation IV bonding and universal bonding (total-etch, self-etch) on the shear bond strength of nanofiller composite resin on enamel

Objectives: This review article aims to describe the accuracy of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) in diagnosing root canal configuration. Review: This study is a literature review consisting of English articles about the accuracy of cone-beam computed tomography in diagnosing root canal configuration, published in 2013 – 2023. The article search databases used were Pubmed and Science Direct with the keyword “(cone-beam computed tomography[MeSH Terms]) AND (configuration, root canal[MeSH Terms]).†The selected articles were screened by checking the publication year, duplicating articles, reading the titles and abstracts, and the entire article's contents.  The total search results for articles based on keywords obtained were 205 and only seven were included. In order to successfully perform root canal treatment, thorough knowledge of the root canal configuration is essential. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) can improve our understanding of root canal configuration. The development of CBCT has brought to light the disadvantages of conventional radiography, which include the compression of three-dimensional anatomy, geometric distortion, and anatomical noise. Conclusion: Radiology is essential in treatment planning, disease monitoring, and assessmen  t of treatment outcomes. The development of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) offers three-dimensional accuracy with a reasonable cost, no geometric distortion and anatomical noise, and the ability to create cross-sectional images, revolutionizing the imaging of dentomaxillofacial structures. This imaging system has been shown to overcome some of the limitations of conventional radiography. &nbsp

    No full text
Objectives: This review article is aimed to provide an overview of 3D CBCT in determining the diagnosis of ameloblastoma. Review: This study is a literature review consisting of English articles about the ameloblastoma radiographic imaging on 3D CBCT, published 2013-2023.The article search databases used were Google scholar, Ebsco, Pubmed .The total search results for articles based on keywords obtained were 552 articles, and only 9 articles were include. Ameloblastoma is a persistent and locally invasive tumor; with aggressive but docile growth characteristics. Ameloblastoma is generally associated with impacted teeth, so it requires a more detailed radiographic examination. Computed cone-beam tomography (CBCT) is a more advantageous imaging system with a lower radiation dose and smaller area requirements. 3D CBCT is a radiographic examination with a high modality, so it is very important in helping to establish a diagnosis, especially for cases that show radiographic differences. Ameloblastoma is divided into several types based on the radiological picture. Odontogenic Keratosis Cysts and ameloblastoma may exhibit similar radiographic features, which make diagnosis difficult. Conclusion: 3D CBCT examination is helpful in diagnosing and validating the treatment of ameloblastoma

    No full text
Objectives: This research is aimed to determine the relation between impacted mandibular third molar’s classification and mandibular canal proximity with panoramic radiograph at RSKGM-P FKG UPDM (B). Materials and Methods: This research used an analytical cross-sectional study. The number of samples in this study was 387 lower third molars from 206 digital panoramic radiographs. The samples were then analyzed based on their classification and their relation to the mandibular canal. Results: The result showed in Pell & Gregory classification, the most related to the mandibular canal is class III (65.8%) with p = 0,000 and position B (58.1%) with p = 0,000. Based on the Winter classification, mesioangular angulation is the most related to the mandibular canal (52.9%) with p = 0,015. Based on the Rood & Shehab classification, it was found that the dominant relation A was 65% in class III with p = 0,000, in position B (58.3%) with p = 0,001, and in mesioangular angulation (61.1%) with p = 0,000. Conclusion: This study shows that the less space available in the mandible, the deeper the position of the impacted tooth in the jaw and their angle affects the proximity of the impacted tooth to the mandibular canal and the radiographic sign of the proximity of the impacted mandibular third molar root to the mandibular canal. This illustrates the need to perform a panoramic radiographic examination prior to performing any intervention on the mandibular third molar
