Cataloged from PDF version of article.Includes bibliographical references (leaves 83-92).This thesis presents two complementary robotic platforms that advance the design of reconfigurable, miniature modular (RMM) robots by leveraging passive mechanisms and minimal actuation for enhanced adaptability, mobility, and simplicity. The first platform, ReLMBot, employs rigid and compliant magnetic backbones—using square and cylindrical Neodymium magnets, respectively—for power-free docking and undocking. Each palm-sized module integrates soft c-shaped legs and wireless control, enabling versatile reconfiguration, obstacle climbing up to 37 mm (over twice its own height), and reliable operation across varied terrains. A physics-based MuJoCo simulation incorporating magnetic dipole modeling is developed and experimentally validated, capturing climbing and docking performance under different configurations. The second platform is a single-actuator modular robot composed of multiple rigid modules linked by anisotropic soft PDMS backbones. Vibration from a single unbalanced mass drives three distinct locomotion modes—forward, lateral, and rotational—through backbone compliance and geometric arrangement. A modified pseudo-rigid body model is calibrated to experimental data, and reinforcement learning is applied to optimize maneuvering strategies, enabling navigation tasks despite minimal actuation. Collectively, the two systems demonstrate how structural compliance, passive connections, and low actuator count can yield scalable, energy-efficient, and reconfigurable miniature robots suitable for applications in exploration, search and rescue, and monitoring in constrained or unstructured environments.by Yiğit Yama

Cataloged from PDF version of article.Includes bibliographical references (leaves 92-110).As e-commerce platforms increasingly shape consumer preferences and decisionmaking processes, this thesis investigates how digital cues influence online shopping behavior and how users interpret these cues. This thesis focuses on two Turkish ecommerce platforms, Trendyol and Hepsiburada, which were examined through scenario-based focus group discussions. This thesis focuses on design features of ecommerce interfaces, such as product information, reviews, and layout, and how users connect these elements to trust, risk perception, and decision-making processes. The Elaboration Likelihood Model (ELM) provides an analytical framework and allows an exploration of how argument quality, personal relevance, responsibility, and prior knowledge shape the processing of persuasive messages through central or peripheral routes. The findings show that participants evaluated products and platforms around trust, uncertainty avoidance, brand value themes. In this way, the thesis demonstrates the impact of digital cues on consumer behavior within the Turkish e-commerce context. It contributes to discussions on how online shopping environments and product presentations can be more transparent, reliable, and user centered.by Ayşegül Karaba

Cataloged from PDF version of article.Includes bibliographical references (leaves 63-72).The growing demand for high-performance low-frequency sound absorbers in architectural acoustics requires sustainable alternatives to conventional sound absorbing materials. The present study investigates the acoustic performance of Micro-Perforated Panels (MPP) made from organic and inorganic 3D printed thermoplastics utilizing Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM). Following this gap in the literature, the research compares biodegradable polylactic acid (PLA) based (MPP1) and recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) based (MPP2) MPPs as sustainable alternatives to classroom settings. To compare with conventional materials from previous literature, inhomogeneous MPP configurations were manufactured for each material type. Their sound absorption coefficients (α) were tested with ISO 10534-2:2023 using an impedance tube and were evaluated in a classroom simulation based on ODEON Room Acoustics Software Version 18.0 to assess their impact on reducing Reverberation Time (RT30) and increasing Speech Transmission Index (STI) scores. The results indicated that both materials demonstrated similar α values in mid to higher frequencies, while MPP2 performed better in lower frequencies. Subsequently, the measured and simulated measurements of RT30 in the classroom in Bilkent University showed that the room is acoustically undertreated. The introduced materials in the simulation indicated that treatment with MPP1 reduced RT30 from 1.25s average to 1s, and treatment with MPP2 reduced RT30 to 0.85s. The STI results increased from 0.51 to 0.6, improving from “fair” to “good” speech intelligibility scores. Overall, the findings highlighted the potential of recycled and biodegradable MPPs to serve as a viable alternative to sustainable sound-absorbing materials in university classroom settings. For future studies, recycled sound absorbers could replace conventional sound absorbers in architectural acoustics.by Cem Kaan Şe

Established in 1939 as a symbol of Turkey’s industrialization drive, the factory shaped Karabük into a modern town from a small village. The settlement provided a unique model of community living, with extensive housing, recreational, and educational facilities. During the 1980-2010 period, the factory underwent significant changes, including privatization and technological advancements, which altered the socio-economic dynamics of the settlement. The research explores themes such as the evolution of neighborhood relations, women’s roles in work and social life, and the impact of migration and class interactions. These transitions reveal the broader implications of industrial modernization on community structures and highlight the challenges faced during the shift from a state-led industrial model to privatized operations. The findings underscore the historical and cultural significance of Karabük Demir-Çelik Factory in Turkey’s socio-economic landscape.
