    A systematic survey of plant biodiversity study within the land of Institut Teknologi Sumatera (ITERA)

    The conversion of agricultural land and plantation into an area with high human activity can affect the biodiversity contained in it. The biodiversity of a region can be surveyed and collect in a systematic database to know the wealth of flora and fauna resources within a certain period of time. The aim of this research is to identify and inventory the vegetation database of plant, which can then be used as one of the important information related to the environmental change that happened from time to time following the impact of the growing development expansion. This study was conducted within the campus of the Institut Teknologi Sumatra (ITERA) which is undergoing physical construction in the form of buildings, roads, and some retention basin. Data retrieval was done by direct observation using the cruising method. The observations of each species are documented, identified, recorded and arranged in the collection catalog

    Study of Optical Cloaking Lenses Design for Optimizing Large Vehicle Driver’s Visibility in Bandar Lampung

    Nowadays, invisibility efforts by scientists and engineers have focused on building a large broadband, multidirectional cloaking device. The device is usually a cloak that works in macroscopic dimensions and for the entire visible spectrum. Addition with the full-field of light, no new materials, simple infrastructure, and scale easily may be considered an ‘ideal’ cloaking device. This paper report of implementing ray optics cloaking formalism presented previously by Choi and Howell [1] using lenses design for cloaking arbitrarily large, and moving objects such as large vehicle. We apply their formalism using simulation and experiment scheme to general optical systems up to four convex lenses. The results support the information to create optical cloaking prototype for optimizing large vehicle driver’s visibility as alternative solution for decreasing traffic accident in Bandar Lampung

    Robust Control of a Quadcopter Flying via Sliding Mode

    Sliding Mode Control (SMC) used to control the stability of a quadcopter from disturbances and uncertainties. This technique has two main advantages: the nonlinear dynamics and modelling errors of the quadcopter can be eliminated by switching function and the uncertainty problem can be overcome with a closed-loop response. The controller of the sliding mode technique consists of two components. The first is design equivalent control law to maintain the system state trajectory on the sliding surface. The second is design switching control law to reach the sliding surface. The Lyapunov theorem is used to ensure the stability of the system. Simulation results verify the robustness of the controller

    Water Conservation with Rainwater Harvesting System in Lampung Province (Case Study in State Polytechnic of Lampung Campus Area)

    The excessive quantity of groundwater utilization leads to significantly reduced groundwater availability. In another aspect of a tropical country, Indonesia has a reasonably high rainfall in the rainy season. The problem of this research is that the rainwater that has not been utilized and managed to maximize so that only becomes runoff. The community can utilize rainwater for the daily need. This paper presents methods and prototypes of rainwater harvesting and collection at the research locus. Methods of rainwater collection can be done with a rainwater harvesting system in the form of gutter mounted on the roof of the building as a tool to direct the flow of rainwater on the roof to the shelter. Rainfall compared to the roof area, will produce the volume of stored rainwater reservoir as a parameter. The novelty proposed in this study is the value and variable of water parameters in the case study of research implementation This case study was carried out in one of the buildings at Lampung State Polytechnic. The building has 96.72 m2 of roof area with daily average rainfall equal to 8.6 mm/day (January to May 2018 period). Hence rainwater potency which can be accommodated per day by society is equal to 0.582 m3/month with assumption only 70% water rain that collected because of water loss. In the rainy season, the volume of actual rainwater that can be collected as much as 0,831 m3/month by ignoring water loss due to evaporation. The quality of rainwater analyzed based on several parameters is pH 4.4, temperature 27,5 oC, turbidity 2.02 NTU, total dissolved solids 20.48 ppm, iron <0.110 ppm, calcium 3.36 mg/l, magnesium 0.233 mg/l, lead <0,021 ppm, hardness 3.69 mg/l, and total coliform 6,1 CFU/100 ml. Testing of the results of this study conducted by testing water quality standards compliance with the regulation of the Indonesia Health Minister number 32 of 2017. Test results show that rainwater can be directly utilized for sanitary hygiene purposes with the improvement of pH value

    Preliminary Result: Identification of Landslides using Electrical Resistivity Tomography Case Study Mt. Betung

    Institut Teknologi Sumatera (ITERA), ITB and local governments had been cooperated in establishing an astronomy observatory of ITERA Lampung (OAIL), which was located at Mt. Betung in the Pasawaran area. Geological setting of this area showed that the dominant lithology of Mt. Betung is pyroclastic, andesite, and breccia rocks. These volcanic deposits have the potential to move the materials down-slope by the force of gravity, steep slope, and high water-content. We have investigated some area with the potential of a landslide along OAIL construction area, which may be the cause of the landslip as well. We applied electrical resistivity tomography to analyse the electrical properties of the subsurface soil and determine the vulnerable area of the landslide. The result indicated that the area is divided into high resistivity at the top of the soil and low resistivity below. These high resistivity numbers are caused by pyroclastic flow while the lower one is caused by fracture-filled, mostly with water and clay

    Development of Submerged Biofilter Design for Wastewater Conservation: Carbonaceous Removal Study

    This stuy aims to determine the operational parameters of submerged biofilter and to develop a model that can be used to estimate the elimination rate of pollutant using aerob and anaerob reactors. The experiment was conducted with draining the wastewater on a cylindrical biofilter column. The removals of wastewater were processed with hidraulic loading rate (HLR) variation of 0.44; 0.74; 1.11; 1.66; 2.21 m3/m2/day. Samplings were performed at the various height of column, i.e. 0.15; 0.3; 0.45; 0.6; 0.75 and 0.9 m. Then the effluent from each point was analyzed using UV-Vis Spectrophotometer. The results showed that the optimum carbonaceous removal was obtained at column height of 90 cm. The operational parameters for scale-up application is 0.74 m3/m2/hour. While the removal percentage of carbon as a chemical oxigen demand (COD) parameter is 84.72%. The changes of HLR will give an effect on the substrate reduction rate (SRR), the microorganism’s growth rate, and the percentage of substrate removal.     Application of the HVSR Microtremor Method for Basalt Outcrops in Tanjung Batu, Jambi

    Microtremor data at 15 point had been taken at tanjung batu around of outcrop igneous rock in back arc basin south sumatra such as carried out at sub basin jambi. The igneous rock, which is found in this area, is basalt and distributed in ± 825 Ha and located in Desa Tanjung Batu Geragai Jambi. The uniqueness of this outcrop is it intrudes the thick of sedimentary rock which have the thickness around more than 1000 meter, located in east cost of Sumatera Island and far away from the volcanoes. The natural frequency from 1-11 and 15 measurement point varied from 6 Hz-19 Hz. The amplification value from 1-10 and 15 measurement point varied from 0,8 Hz-2,2Hz, but at points 4 and 11 have amplification value from 3,4 Hz and 4,8 Hz. Seismic vulnerability at 1-10 and 15 measurement point varied from 0,8-1,8. but at points 4 and 11 have seismic vulnerability value from 1,4 and 2,3. From these result of natural frequency, amplification, and Seismic vulnerability in the outcrops have contrasting value in each map can be identified as fault from intrusion of basalt

    DNA extraction is a series of processes to separate DNA from other cell components. Extraction is the most crucial early stage in molecular research. There are two methods in DNA extraction: traditional organic extraction and non-organic adoption extraction method. Traditional organic extraction method are used by many laboratories to obtain amount of high-yield DNA. However, in recent years it has been a tendency to adopt non-organic commercial protocols, known as extraction kit. This method was relatively faster, low times-consuming and avoid the toxicity due to phenol use. This study aims to determine the steps of DNA extraction to obtain total DNA from muscle tissue of fish grouper using Extraction Kit for Animal Tissue. The Kit extraction method has an advantages that is the processing time is shorter, simple, non-toxic and high-purity DNA yields. A total of 4 tissue samples from grouper muscle were successfully extracted using an Extraction Kit that was indicated by the visualization of the band on qualitative DNA analysis in 1% agarose gel. The environment is less comfortable and effective in the learning process will affect student achievement. To overcome this, the Institute of Technology of Sumatra (ITERA) provides a new student dormitory which one of the place that can provide an effective learning environment because the coaching programs provided such as peer tutors aim to develop learning achievement in TPB Program. The relationship of coaching program in the dormitory to student achievement on First Year Stage Course (TPB) can be analyze use simple regression method. The data that used in this method are questionnaire, mid test score and final test, especially in Basic Mathematics. The results of the analysis stated that the coaching program at the Dormitory resulted in higher learning achievement than those outside the dormitory

    Potential Analysis of Hydro Power Plants in Pesisir Barat District, Lampung Province

    Hydropower plants are increasingly being heard nowadays, but the growth is still very lacking, especially for residents living in rural and coastal areas. At present several efforts have been made by the government, including the existence of a system of purchasing electricity from small-scale renewable energy generation and the construction of new transmission networks. Pesisir Barat Regency is part of the South Lampung region, Sumatra. This region has a population distribution in the coastal area and is surrounded by Bukit Barisan National Park. So that there are many large river streams that can be utilized by the local community. Large rivers have the potential to be utilized further as hydropower renewable energy sources. River potential is seen by conducting river location surveys, flow measurements and river heads and power calculations. Based on the analysis of measurement results there are two rivers that have the potential to be a micro or mini hydro generator; Way Laai and Way Lami. The maximum design discharge of Way Laai of 4.52 m3/s can produce a mechanical output power of 1223.82 kW with an effective head of 44.16 m. Way Lami with a design discharge of 5,336 m3/s, an effective head of 28.8 m has the potential to provide a mechanical power output of 942.23 kW. Sequentially, with this mechanical output power, the Way Laai and Way Lami rivers, can meet the electricity needs of the community with an installed power of 900VA as much as ± 1350, ± 25100 Houses
