    Coherence Method in Matan Criticism

    Get PDF
This paper aims to formulate the application of the coherence method known in philosophy to the matan criticism. This formulation is important for several reasons. First, the science of hadith as one of the Islamic sciences has been dominated by awareness of its normative dimensions compared to the dimensions of its historicity. Second, in addition to differences there are similarities between the coherence method and the matan criticism, namely in terms of seeking the truth by relying on certain standard. The application of the coherence method in this matan criticism is carried out in three main steps. First, determining the criteria for religious truth that will be used as benchmarks. In this case, the criteria of truth chosen are contemporary maqashid al-sharia, especially in the perspective of Jasser Audah. Second, mapping the theme of the hadith being studied, to facilitate synchronization with the selected criteria of truth. Third, interpreting the hadith that is being studied based on Ulumul Hadith in general and ‘Ilm Ma’ani al-Hadith in particular, by utilizing the latest theories from the sciences related to the hadith being studied. The implications of applying this method can at least be seen through two things, which are at the same time the goal of the formulation of this method. First, the reduction of the awareness domination of the normative dimension in matan criticism. This will have an impact on increasing awareness of the dimensions of historicity and humanity in matan criticism and is expected to contribute to the reduction of exclusive and radical attitudes. Second, integration or at least interconnection between two methods of seeking truth from two different disciplines, namely Hadith and Philosophy. This paper aims to formulate the application of the coherence method known in philosophy to the matan criticism. The advancement of knowledge and technology presents its own challenges to Muslims’ socio-religious life. One of them is the progress in the medical field regarding organ transplants of animals to humans. Religious problems arise when animals used in transplantation are those that are deemed unlawful (haram) by Islamic texts. On the one hand, organ transplants provide benefits for humanity, but on the other, donors of transplants are unlawful animals. This paper examines the lawfulness of using the body parts of pigs, whose unlawfulness is stated in many verses of the Qur\u27an. This study uses a contextual interpretation introduced by Abdullah Saeed. Based on contextual considerations, this study concludes that QS. al-Baqarah: 173, QS. al-Maidah: 3, QS. al-Anam: 145 and QS. an-Nahl: 115 prohibit pork for consumption. The commentators of the Qur’an have differences of opinion concerning the uses of pigs beyond consumption. This paper suggests that using the body parts of pigs is legitimate. This is reinforced by QS. al-Baqarah: 173 which explains an emergency context. Pigs do not belong to the category of najis ‘aini, which allows it to be transplanted into the human body. However, some conditions need to be fulfilled for transplantation. The transplantation permitted if  these is not rise risk of further to harm and a recommendation from the doctor about the patient\u27s condition.

Religious moderation is one of the themes that has been widely discussed in the past few decades. This is an anti-thesis of various intolerance attitudes that befall many circles, whether related to politics, social, or even religion. Intolerance in religion becomes the main focus of many circles. Even the younger generation practice this attitude. This attitude of intolerance is suspected to have entered primary and secondary educational institutions, while the efforts made by many parties in anticipating this movement did not reach its main essence. Intolerance in religion is influenced more by a lack of understanding of religion correctly, though al-Qur\u27an mentioned many principles and moderate attitudes that can be applied in the education system in schools. To get the principles and values of moderation in the Qur’an that can be applied in the education system in schools, this study uses a thematic method introduced by Fazlur Rahman. From this method, it is produced that the values of moderation in the Qur’an accumulate in aspects of justice, openness, wisdom, and balance. These values are required to always be maintained and become a guideline to achieve the universality of Islam in action. The application of these values in education can be committed with several approaches, namely the values inculcating approach, the cognitive moral development approach, the value analysis approach, the value clarification approach, and the learning approach by doing. Through this approach, moderate attitudes are instilled that can give birth to tolerance, mutual respect, and affection between people

The data is then classified based on religious affiliation and their attitude towards the Constitutional Court’s decision in 2017. On 7 November 2017, the Constitutional Court granted a judicial review of Law No. 23/2006 amended by Law No. 24 of 2013 concerning Civic Administration (UU Adminduk). This law is very significant for the group of “kepercayaan.” However, the group of “agama” has not yet fully accepted the group of “kepercayaan.” So, there needs to be reconciliation between groups of “agama” and “kepercayaan” after the decision of the Constitutional Court in 2017. By looking at the importance of the decision, it is also truly an opportunity to stop discrimination and social stigma against followers of “kepercayaan.” This paper concluded that the decision of the Constitutional Court in 2017 was an opportunity to encourage reconciliation between “agama” and “kepercayaan.”Keywords: Constitutional Court’s decision, agama, kepercayaan, reconciliatio

Since the arrival of the Portuguese to Indonesia, many missionaries have spread Catholicism in Indonesia. The Maluku region became the beginning of the Catholicsm process in Indonesia, when a Portuguese missionary Francis Xavier came to the largest spice producing region in the world at that time. Previously, the arrival of the Portuguese in Indonesia in addition to their trade also brought religious interests in it. In 1546-1547 when he arrived in Maluku, he had succeeded in baptizing thousands of people also building schools for the indigenous population. When the VOC, which incidentally was a follower of Protestantism, tried to protest the population in the archipelago. They also sought to monopolize religion by mastering Catholic churches from Portuguese Spanish heritage, bearing in mind that in Europe there had been a strong push by Protestants against Catholics so that the impact of the Protestant-Catholic feud reached the Archipelago. Apparently, the era of Colonial Government began to be implemented after the fall of the VOC has had a tremendous impact on the development of Catholicism in Indonesia with the emergence of a spirit ‘\u27Catholic Awakening Indonesia\u27’ in line with the period of the emergence of Indonesian movement organizations in achieving Free Indonesia. This is inseparable from the role and emergence of several Indonesian Catholic figures in the political field including Ignasius Kasimo, and M.G.R Soegijapranata, even military fields such as Adi Sucipto and Slamet Riyadi who are among the leaders among Indonesian Catholics who defend for the sake of the nation and state of Indonesia

TAUHID SEBAGAI FONDASI KEADILAN SOSIAL DALAM PEMIKIRAN TAN MALAKA

This paper aims to re-read Tan Malaka’s work related to the concept of social justice which he correlates with the concept of God in Islam. This needs to be done because researchers are hardly interested in Tan Malaka’s thoughts about the concept of God (Tauhid). But, in his work is found his commentary on the concept of divinity. This study uses qualitative methods with library research techniques. In analyzing the data of this study using the text critique method. Tan Malaka defines divinity as the recognition of God’s power, the Oneness of God. This confession arises based on awareness of God’s laws in the universe. Based on these laws, Tan Malaka realizes that justice means equality, and enforcement of justice means enforcement of God’s laws. In this context, religious people will always base their actions on the principles of justice, so that the concept offered by Tan Malaka can be an answer to the reality of religious life in Indonesia. This keeps monotheism away from its basic concept as a liberator. This concept also strengthens the concept of anthropocentric theology which emphasizes the cultivation of monotheism in factual reality
