SOCIO-GENETIC MOTIVES OF MUI’S FATWA REGARDING COVID-19 BASED ON QURAN-HADITH

    Get PDF
The textual understanding of the Quran and Hadith during the pandemic era has manifested an obstacle for the implementation of the advised health protocols against COVID-19. The textualists try to confront the Quran and Hadith with the social reality of health. They insisted that one should only fear of Almighty God Almighty, not the corona virus, and the congregation of the prayers should be performed at mosques. Against this backdrop, MUI released a guide to worship during the holy month of Ramadan 2020 in the midst of COVID-19. This article, subscribing to qualitative research method investigates the MUI guidance through socio-genetic motive theory. Following the thematic framework, this research found that MUI\u27s socio-genetic motive in appropriating COVID-19 as a mercy (rahmat) is to reduce the potential for conflict, in shifting the meaning of worship to not only in the mosque is to form household harmony, and in optimizing fasting, and zakat is to foster social awareness. While the MUI\u27s motive for basing on Hadith in ordering the use of masks is self-protection and other fellow humans, the motive for maintaining personal hygiene is social health awareness, and the motive to stay at home is not to endanger others. The novelty of this research is to answer the idealism of textualists by combining the study of religious texts with social theory. Keywords: socio-genetic motive; MUI; Quran and Hadit

This article explores Rumi\u27s mahabbah concept. Currently, in society, the concept of love is degrading in meaning, resulting in its constriction. This is because the concept of mahabbah, which we usually refer to as "love," is unfamiliar to the general population. In general, society equates love with liking the other sex. Spite of the fact ,  Rumi asserts that love is not confined to that. The notion of love will be addressed in this study via the lens of Jalaluddin Rumi, specifically the nature of love and its application in life. The findings of this study provide an outline of the type of love that people should possess: love powerful enough to cause someone to love their god

Reinterpretasi Makna Hijrah dan Implikasinya terhadap Moderasi Beragama: Aplikasi Maʿnā cum Maghza pada Q.S. Al-Nisāʾ: 100

    Get PDF
This article focuses on the word hijrah in Q.S. al-Nisāʾ: 100. It is an important topic following the rise of the hijrahmovement along with all its religious attitudes. This development led to a semantical shift of the word hijrah, from originally referring to the historical movement of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in 622 AD to a kindlifestyletyle marked with symbolic and exclusive religiousness. To this end, the study used the Maʿna cum Maghza method of interpretation. This article argues the followings: First, the current hijrah trend with all its dynamics undergoes a shift in meaning so that it is closer to symbolic religiosity. Second, the historical-phenomenal significance of QS. al-Nisāʾ: 100 is that the hijrah movement in Indonesia should be seen within a proportional context of its historical, ideological and cultural basis, especially for the context of Indonesia which has a diversity of tribes, races and religions. Third, the trend of hijrah with its exclusive religious attitude slowly but surely must be addressed by advocating pluralism values. Thus, inclusiveness and openness are needed as the main foundation in building a plural and religious moderation

Indonesia is a country which has various different tribes and beliefs in its society. Those various tribes, culture and beliefs are spread in all areas of Indonesia. This uniqueness can also be found in Salatiga, a city that is known as mini Indonesia, for its diversities. In 2015 up to 2017, Salatiga got a predicate as one of the most tolerance city in Indonesia based on “Setara Institute” report. The report and predicate are about freedom of religious life in society. This predicate was seen based on local citizen point of view. How if this predicate was portrayed from foreigner citizen’s point of view, considering that there are quite a lot of foreign citizens also in Salatiga.  Based on this phenomenon this research is aimed to find out how foreign citizen portrays the life of religious tolerance in Salatiga. This research uses qualitative approach with descriptive analysis to analyse the data. This research is classified as a case study since it describes the portrayal of religion’s tolerance point of view in one region, in this case is Salatiga. For data collection this research uses semi-structured and in-depth interview method. The interview was conducted in Salatiga with eight foreign citizens as research subject. The result of this study shows that the foreign citizen said that there are respects between religions in Salatiga. However some foreign citizens feel the unfair advantages between major and minor religion. They could not differentiate whether “the unfair advantage” is merely a custom or it is indeed intolerant act. Although they stated that they can receive some of the acts as a local custom, but they need hard effort to state it as a tolerance between religions in Salatiga. Therefore it is an important thing to manage tolerance education of Indonesia for foreign speake

This article attempted to portray the resistance strategy of Samin Kudus society to the domination of the majority and rulers. The Samin community lived in marginalized conditions. They pay taxes to the state, but on the other hand, their existence is still stigmatized as a group that continues to fight, like reluctance to participate in mass marriage programs. This study used a descriptive-qualitative pattern. Data sourced from the field and library. After the data was collected, data analysis was carried out, then analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the resistance carried out by the people of Samin Kudus was encouraged because of the negative stigma as a group rejecting development programs. Samin Kudus tried to fight the stigma and domination of the majority with a closed resistance strategy as in James Scott\u27s theory. Samin Kudus did a closed resistance not to change the dominant system, but to survive in the system. In its development, the closed resistance strategy becomes open. The closed-to-open strategy starts from their ability to respond to change, by starting from learning to write, understanding population administration issues, building a movement based on legal entities. After this strategy was used, Samin Kudus was recognized by the majority and authorities and given the facility to manage its own community

This research is conducted to comprehend the typology of living Hadith in Indonesia based on the ritual-based Hadith in Sidoadi’s society. The ritual-based Hadith called Bari’an ritual. the Sidodadi\u27s people have been trying to preserve the Bari\u27an ritual. This ritual is related to a major change in the history of the Dudak village, which is now called Sidodadi. This study focuses on how the views of the Sidodadi\u27s people on the Bari\u27an ritual, the ritual forms of Bari\u27an  in Sidodadi, the meanings of the present Bari\u27an rituals, and its relevance to the values of the Hadith. This is a socio-cultural study with a phenomenological analysis approach. The problem is answered based on qualitative data with the technique of interpretation of emic and ethics. With such emic and ethical interpretation techniques, it can be seen that the forms of the Bari\u27an ritual in Sidodadi historically have shifted including its motive, meaning, as well as values. The shift is caused by a transformation of the beliefs of Sidodadi\u27s people from Islam \u27Kejawen\u27 (Javanese Islam) filled with myths, superstition, and sesaji, turned into Popular Islam filled with values of Hadith

AL- ṬAḤĀWĪ’S METHOD TOWARDS THE VARIETY OF QIRAĀT IN TAFSIR AḤKĀM AL-QUR’ĀN AND ITS IMPLICATION TO ISTINBĀṬ AL-AḤKĀM

The variety of Qiraāt is closely related to the interpretation of the Quran. Often, variety of Qiraāt result in different understanding and law. Al-Tahāwī gives special attention on the variety of Qiraāt and its use in the istinbāṭ of fiqh rulings in his interpretation entitled Ahkām al-Qur\u27ān al-Karīm. This research aims at investigating al-Tahāwī’s method towards the variety of Qiraāt and its implication in the istinbāṭ of fiqh rulings. This research paper employs analytic descriptive method by exploring and analyzing the variety of Qiraāt included in the interpretation entitled Ah}kām al-Qur’ān al-Karīm. The results showed that al-T{ah{āwī\u27s interaction methods towards the variety of Qiraāt are: (1) providing all possible Qiraāt; (2) verifying the validity of Qiraāt; (3) explaining Qiraāt Syāżah. This method is very influential in the istinbāṭ of fiqh rulings because al-T{ah{āwī’s orientation on presenting variety of Qiraāt is related to the istinbāṭ of fiqh rulings itself. al-T{ah{āwī tried to compromise the variety of Qiraāt and confirmed his choices, far from being mażhab fanatics as those found in al-Jaṣāṣ, Ilkiyā al-Harāsi and Ibn al-‘Arabi.Keywords: Ahkām al-Qur’ān al-Karīm, al-Tahāwī, the variety of Qur’an recitations, Fiqh rulings.

STATE IDEALISM AND THE EMERGING DEMOCRATIZATION CHALLENGES OF INDONESIA POST-POLITICAL ELECTION IN ABU NASR AL-FARABI’S PARADIGM OF QUR’ANIC EXEGESIS

    Get PDF
Over 11 centuries, Abu Nasr al-Farabi (d. 950) is well-known as a great philosopher and political scientist. Few studies have examined al-Mu\u27allim al-Ṡani’s capacity as a Qur’anic interpreter. Even though Al-Farabi has never written a complete Qur’anic exegesis book, he is noticed consistently paraphrasing verses of the Qur’an into political statements to justify the interrelatedness between Islamic political thought with Ancient Greek’s one which inspired from Plato and Aristotle. This characteristic is seen in some of his masterpieces as Arāyat Ahl al-Madīnah al-Faḍīlah and al-Siyāsah al-Madīnah. This paper seeks the potential adaptation of al-Farabi\u27s idea about the ideal society, based on his alteration of Qur’anic verses into political concepts, as an alternative to fulfill the shortfall of Indonesian democracy. The article reflects al-Farabi\u27s thoughts in the context of democratization challenges in Indonesia post-political campaign and suggested that its practice of democration is still considered as a "green" and imperfect form. Keywords: Abu Nasr al-Farabi; madīnah al-fadhīlah al-sa’ādah, Democratization Challenges. Get PDF
This article aims to explain the role of imagination in the mi\u27raj experienced by Ibn Arabi. Ibn Arabi is known as the foremost mystic in the Islamic world. His mystical thoughts can be found in his books. One of the mystical aspects experienced by Ibn Arabi is mi\u27raj. Ibn Arabi\u27s mi\u27raj experience was different from that of the Prophet Muhammad. The Mi\u27raj of the Prophet was carried out by means of the body and spirit and received a new shari\u27a, while the mi\u27raj experienced by Ibn Arabi was carried out with the spirit and did not receive a new shari\u27a. The mi\u27raj experience will be analyzed using a creative imagination approach. The results of this study show three roles of imagination from Ibn Arabi\u27s mi\u27raj experience. First, his creative imagination can create an intermediate realm or what is called the imaginal realm. In this Ibn Arabi could meet the spirituality of the previous prophets. Second, the imagination is interpreted by Ibn Arabi as the power of creative thinking. Ibn Arabi combined two sciences, namely the science of reason and Islamic gnosticism to create new knowledge about mi\u27raj. Third, the imagination has a bissociative function. Ibn Arabi dared to risk being called a strange Sufi with his new knowledge of mi\u27raj. Keyword: Ibn Arabi, Mi’raj, Imajinasi Kreatif, Fungsi Bisosiati
