Feminist Exegesis in Hamka’s Tafsir Al-Azhar
This research aims to understand the typology of contemporary interpretation in Indonesia, especially concerning the issue of women based on the interpretation narrative in Hamka\u27s Tafsir Al-Azhar. This interpretation arose in modern thought and was born from Indonesian society that the Dutch were colonizing. Therefore, this interpretation represents an idea with a modern background and colonial issues. One of the interesting issues in Al-Azhar\u27s notion is the interpretation of verses related to women. This study uses a qualitative approach by collecting interpretations related to women in Tafsir Al-Azhar. This research used Hans-George Gadamer\u27s philosophical hermeneutic method. The study results prove that the context of the colonial era made Hamka choose to reinterpret the verses of the Qur\u27an related to women\u27s creation. The purpose of the interpretation is to harmonize between religious values and social conditions. According to Hamka, he interpreted the female verse that said women created from Adam’s ribs. Also, he explained controversially that the interpretation of women\u27s creation from Adam’s ribs is merely a metaphor. He explained that both men and women could build a fair social system. As well as the issue of women\u27s education rights, Hamka tries to explain that men and women have the opportunity to obtain information and education in an equal position. The latter issue is women\u27s social activities in public areas. In this context, it is not only men who can rule women; on the contrary, women can regulate men\u27s domestic affairs. Therefore, it is the inevitability of the existing potential
Counter Discourse on the Idea of Islamic State and Formalization of Religion in the Qur’anic Exegesis of KH. Abdurahman Wahid
This research discusses KH Abdurrahman Wahid’s Qur’anic interpretation written in his articles around the 2002–2003 period. Initial studies of the text show that Gus Dur was only active in elaborating the Qur’anic verses in his articles after he stepped down from the president and Chairman of the PBNU. This initial observation then raised questions regarding his lack of interpretation during Orde Baru (New Order), primarily when he served as Chairman of PBNU. Thus, what context finally made Gus Dur want to include the interpretation of the Qur’an in his article? This paper answers these questions using a descriptive-interpretive method. The theory used is the critical discourse analysis by Teun A. Van Dijk, which contains three steps, namely text analysis, personal and social cognition, and context. Furthermore, the results reveal that: (1) there is a discourse contest in the democratic transition period between those who are pro with an Islamic state and those against it; (2) Gus Dur positioned himself as a party against the idea of an Islamic state. It happened when Gus Dur used the verses of the Qur’an to strengthen his argument; (3) Gus Dur’s interpretation which prioritizes the principle of humanity and can reach a wider audience, has implications indirectly for the development of the interpretation of the Qur’an in Indonesia
PESAN AL-QUR’AN TENTANG DAKWAH MODERAT
History shows that the success of Islamic da\u27wa is not through the ways of violence. Instead, Islam has succeeded in expanding to the communities in most places because it has been preached moderately so that the communities can accept Islam more easily. Moderate and non-violent attitude in conveying da\u27wa is not only taught by Al-Qur\u27an or exemplified by Prophet Muhammad SAW, but also acted by the preachers of Islam within the communities. These concepts of non-violence have been successfully applied in various models and approaches for the sake of the people as the subject of Islamic da\u27wa. This study shows that adaptation is an important point in a moderate approach of da\u27wa that support the success of the da\u27wa to societies. In other words, the socio-cultural and psychological approach has been the alternative way in Islamic da’wa in order that Islam becomes more easily accepted by the communities

Māliki sect, namely that maslahat -especially maslahat mursalah- is a stand-alone proposition; third, Imam Mālik\u27s assertiveness in positioning maslahat as one of the independent evidences in his ijtihad methodology has stimulated the fiqh researchers to study further explore this so that imam Mālik\u27s fiqh sect can survive to this day and successfully produce phenomenal scientific works that affirm the existence of maslahat as one of the footholds of Islamic law
Riwāyāt al-Qirā\u27āt al-Qur\u27āniyyah fī Kutub al-Ḥadīṡ Unmūżajan: Riwāyat al-Ḥadīṡ min al-Syafāhiyyat ilā al-Kitābiyyat: [Narrations of Qirā\u27āt in Selected Hadith Literature: The Transmission of Hadith from the Oral World into the Written Word]
The narrators have tried to convey the hadith, its accompanying physical expression, and its reading methods to the listener directly in oral communication. Thus, these learning transmission methods shifted from the oral world to textual word, henceforth it made the narrators rephrase the verbal utterances into written phrases, such as “one separates the fingers”, “his/her voice amplified” and others. The problem is, written expressions might not completely transcribe spoken language, more specifically for the transmitting narrators of the reading methods of the Quranic verses (qirā’at āyāt al-Qur’ān). This article focuses to illustrate forms of narration on the Quranic reading methods in written expressions and the complementary explanations detailed by the narrators. The results appear that some of the narrations on the variety of reading methods of the Qur’an in some Hadith literature required detailed information, such as mentioning the letters of the Arabic letters and how to read specific phrases and punctuation. These additions clarify the variety of the Quranic reading methods hence such utilitarian information is beneficial for the narrations in the mediated world
BUILDING THE FOUNDATION OF RELIGIOUS TOLERANCE AND COUNTERING RADICALISM IDEOLOGY IN INDONESIA
Human rights enforcement, especially in the aspect of religious freedom in Indonesia, is still unsolved. Violence involving conflicts among religious followers still occurs. It shows that the space for religious freedom is still a critical problem in this country. Indonesia is a multi-cultural country, but a narrow understanding makes plurality the root of hatred and anger. Indeed, diversity will contribute to national development, but on the other hand, it can also trigger horizontal conflicts. This article will unravel the problems that cause religious intolerance and how to overcome the mushrooming of radicalism. This article is qualitative-based research. The data were collected from the library study. The acts of violence caused by wrong religious understanding were analyzed from the Human Rights enforcement, Islamic theology, and socio-juridical viewpoints so that alternative solutions for acts of violence occurring in society, especially among Muslims, can be settled. This study finds that tolerance has its foundations in both religion and positive law in Indonesia. Therefore, any intolerance has no basis, and it will only worsen the image of Islam and make people unsympathetic to religion

The metaphysical concept has a unique distinction in its position in Islamic philosophy. One of them is from Al-Farabi\u27s view, which views that mastery of metaphysical concepts has an important role in creating happiness. For this reason, this paper will discuss what is the peripatetic tradition in history, metaphysical concepts that exist in the realms of Islamic philosophy and discuss the relationship between metaphysical concepts and the concept of happiness owned by Islamic philosophers, namely Abu Nasir Muhammad bin al-Farakh Al-Farabi (872-951)
