    Melampaui Penanda Kebahasaan: Pencarian Mitos dalam Penafsiran Aḥmad bin ’Alī al-Būnī di Syams al-Ma’ārif al-Kubrā

    Mystical interpretations that are often seen as irrational interpretations obscure the rationality and scientific values contained in these interpretations. The assessment of mystical interpretation as irrational interpretation is caused by the understanding that someone who interprets mystically is thought to have no capability in interpreting the Qur’an. Thus, this study aims to demonstrate Aḥmad ibn ‘Alī al-Būnī’s mystical reasoning when interpreting the Qur’an in Shams al-Ma’ārif al-Kubrā from the argument that mystical interpretation-although seemingly irrational-has its own scientific basis and logical flow to arrive at a mystical understanding of the Qur’an. To achieve this goal, this study uses a qualitative method with the semiotic theory offered by Roland Barthes, which he divides into denotation and connotation analysis as a knife of analysis. The study shows that al-Būnī’s scientific background plays an important role in shaping his understanding of the Qur’anic verses. The interpretation of the basmalah, for example, al-Būnī interpreted it as a symbol of security, guarding, conquest, blessing, help, and salvation that resulted from his understanding of the names of the all-protective Allah contained in the term. The above understanding was formed through al-Būnī’s scientific background which mastered the science of letters (ilm al-huruf) and the names of Allah (al-Asma’ al-Husna). As a result, there are practices on the basmalah, such as reciting the basmalah 20 times before going to bed to avoid theft, demonic interference, or disaster

    The Essence of Ontology in Islamic Philosophy: Discourse on Wujūd in al-Ḥikmat al-Mashā\u27iyyat and al-Ḥikmat al-Ishrāq

    This article seeks to analyze the concept of wujūd in Islamic philosophy, including the Peripatetic (al-Ḥikmat al-Mashā’iyyat) and Illuminationist (al-Ḥikmat al-Ishrāq) schools. The study employs a discourse analysis approach, using data collected from an analysis of Islamic philosophy literature with a focus on the concept of wujūd in these two schools. The findings of the study show that despite using the same term, the concept of external reality has different meanings in different schools of Islamic philosophy. The Peripatetic school interprets wujūd as the basis of reality, but its extension varies depending on the differences in māhiyat (essence). The Illuminationist school, on the other hand, interprets wujūd as an addition to external reality, as the fundamental element is māhiyat. One of the novel contributions of this study is to highlight the sensitivity of the concept of essence in Islamic ontology, as evidenced by the different meanings of wujūd in the two schools of Islamic philosophy.     Abstrak Istilah "Insan Kamil" secara teknis muncul dalam literatur Islam sekitar awal abad ke-7 M/13 M, terutama didorong oleh gagasan Ibnu Arabi, yang menggunakannya untuk menunjukkan konsep manusia ideal sebagai tempat tinggal kehadiran Tuhan. Konsep ini kemudian mendapatkan perhatian yang signifikan dan dielaborasi lebih lanjut oleh al-Jîlî. Artikel ini mengeksplorasi perspektif al-Jili tentang gagasan manusia sempurna. Pertanyaan yang di ajukan dalam artikel ini, Bagaimana biografi al-Jili, dan apa konsepnya tentang Insan Kamil? Dan Apakah perspektif al-Jili tentang Insan al-Kamil selaras atau berbeda dengan perspektif Ibn \u27Arabi, pendukung utama konsep ini? Pertanyaan ini memiliki arti penting karena, dengan mempertimbangkan konteks historis kedua individu ini, kesenjangan temporal antara Ibnu Arabi dan al-Jili terbentang lebih dari satu abad atau hampir dua abad, yang ditandai dengan kondisi sosial yang berbeda. Untuk mencapai tujuan ini, metodologi penelitian yang digunakan adalah tinjauan literatur yang komprehensif. Penelitian ini pada akhirnya menyimpulkan bahwa al-Jili memperkenalkan konsep insan kamil, yang terinspirasi dari Ibnu Arabi, sekaligus menawarkan kritik terhadap aspek-aspek tertentu dari gagasan Ibnu Arabi tentang insan kamil. Menurut sudut pandang al-Jili, insan kamil berfungsi sebagai cerminan atau wadah Tuhan, dengan Nur Muhammad dianggap sebagai wadah yang paling tepat untuk manifestasi Tuhan karena pencapaian kesempurnaannya dalam hidup.     Nusa Tenggara Timur merupakan salah satu provinsi yang ada di Indonesia. Provinsi ini sudah lama dikenal sebagai daerah yang tinggi angka toleransinya. Masing-masing umat beragama menerima sesamanya yang berbeda tanpa pandang bulu. Ini adalah suatu prestasi yang harus terus-menerus dipertahankan. Melalui tulisan ini, akan dilihat bagaimana sinergitas umat beragama merawat persatuan dengan memakai teori Civil Religion, Bellah pisau bedah. Civil Religion yang dikemukakan oleh Bellah selalu relevan untuk dihidupi dalam konteks kemajemukan. Menariknya, Civil Religion tidak menjadikan agama sebagai titik pijak tetapi kearifan lokal atau nilai-nilai kemanusiaan yang dikembangkan. Hal ini sejalan dengan lahirnya moderasi beragama yang mengedepankan dialog dan penerimaan positif pada sesama yang beragama lain. Untuk bisa mencapai target akhir penulis, maka pendekatan kualitatif, yaitu penelitian berdasarkan kepustakaan akan menjadi metode yang dipilih dalam tulisan ini.     Architectural Interpretations of Qur’anic and Hadith Influences in Traditional Indonesian Mosques During the Walisanga Era

    This research investigates the reception of the Qur’ān within the realm of mosque architecture, traditionally assessed through the study of text integrated into mosque ornamentation. This article introduces a reception studies to Walisanga mosques architecture, encompassing considerations of spatial design, essence, illumination, and interior ambiance. Notably, this study diverges from conventional methods by abstaining from the inclusion of Qur’anic or hadith text. The primary objectives of this article are twofold: a) to elucidate the relationship between the architecture of traditional Indonesian mosques and the Qur’an and Hadith, and b) to unveil how architectural elements within traditional mosques visually interpret QS. 24:35 and the Hadith of Gabriel. In order to achieve a comprehensive analysis, this study employs both semantic and hermeneutic methodologies. The semantic approach is applied to dissect the atomistic structure of QS. 24:35 and the Hadith of Gabriel, with the intent of identifying foundational components that underpin the concept of tajug tumpang in traditional Indonesian mosque architecture. Subsequently, a hermeneutic approach is adopted to explore the interconnection between the verse QS. 24:35, the Hadith of Gabriel, and their architectural manifestations within the context of traditional Indonesian mosque construction.The result of the analysis culminates in the identification of two primary forms of architectural reception of QS. 24:35 and the Hadith of Gabriel within traditional Indonesian mosques. Firstly, instances wherein the textual meanings are directly translatable are actualized through elements such as light, lanterns, trees, and niches, all tailored to the Indonesian cultural milieu. Secondly, fundamental concepts derived from the Qur’an and Hadith, which resist tangible representation, are reinterpreted and incorporated into facets of spatial arrangement, lighting schemes, colour selections, ornamental details, and the harmonization of additional components, all resonating harmoniously with the Indonesian cultural identity

    The textual interpretation of various Quranic verses, particularly those relating to Indonesian societal traditions, reflects an ideological approach that is disseminated through the RodjaTV YouTube channel. The oral explanation of these meanings shapes the listener\u27s perception, leading them to accept the presented interpretation as an accurate reflection of reality. This study aims to uncover the mechanisms through which tradition is integrated into the interpretation of Qur\u27anic verses. Employing a qualitative method with framing analysis, the research reveals that the explanation of verse meanings—particularly when directly connected to the context of the verse or the historical narrative of the people addressed—creates an analogy with Indonesian traditions. This analogy produces a discursive alignment that suggests a similar treatment and punishment are warranted. This core framing is presented in a unified narrative that serves to validate the perspective offered. The emerging imagery is reinforced through common phrases like “returning to the Qur\u27an” and “returning to the Sunnah”. The depiction of tradition as analogous to the realities faced by the communities mentioned in the verses is further emphasized by the repeated use of terms such as kafir (unbeliever), misguided, and ghalw (excessiveness). In this framework, desacralization occurs not through the distortion of specific terms, but by forming analogies that equate the targeted subjects of the verses with the traditions practiced in Indonesian society. As a result, these traditions are portrayed as parallel to the disbelief and transgressions of the earlier communities, who were the original focus of the Quranic verses

    Ibn Mujahid\u27s Canonical Legacy: Examining Sanad Authentication and Political Factors in the Standardization of Qirā’āt Sab’ah

    This research delves into the study of qirā’āt, specifically examining variations in Qur\u27anic recitation within the modern context of Qur\u27anic studies. Academic literature has typically overlooked qirā’āt, tending to emphasize linguistic aspects of qira\u27at in general. However, recent scholarly discussions underscore the increasing significance of scrutinizing the authenticity of qirā’āt. The presence of uncertainties and disputes concerning the authenticity of qirā’āt, both within Western and Muslim scholarly circles, renders this subject exceptionally intriguing for investigation. Drawing upon Michel Foucault\u27s theory of the archaeology of knowledge and Shahab Ahmad, this study endeavors to bridge the existing knowledge gap by tracing the historical development of the standardization and canonization of qirā’āt. Specifically, our research will shed light on the motivations and procedures employed by Ibn Mujahid in designating seven Imams as authoritative figures in the canonization of qirā’āt sab’ah. Furthermore, we strived to uncover the ways in which political factors exerted influence over the endeavor to \u27canonize\u27 qirā’āt in seven distinct variants. Our findings ultimately reveal that the success of Ibn Mujahid\u27s codification and canonization of qirā’āt hinged not solely on the narrative of unifying Muslim perspectives on the diverse recitation variants but was also significantly shaped by underlying political considerations throughout the process. These discoveries offer fresh insights into comprehending the historical dynamics of qirā’āt al-Qur\u27an and underscore the crucial importance of considering the political backdrop in understanding religious traditions

    Abstract Ibn Miskawaih is known as the father of Islamic ethics. He has been able to formulate the basics of ethics in his book Tahdzib al Akhlaq wa Thathir al A\u27raq (Education Budi and Cleansing Morals). The source of Ibn Miskawaih\u27s ethical philosophy comes from Greek philosophy, Persian civilization, Islamic teachings and personal experience. In His thoughts on ethics, he started by exploring the human soul. He views that psychology has its own virtues compared to other other psychology. Ibn Miskawaih\u27s ethical teachings stem from the bitch theory middle. The point is to say that moral virtue is generally defined as as a middle position, extreme advantages and extreme disadvantages of each human soul. Thus, according to Ibn Miskawaih that morality is a a state of mind that invites someone to act without thinking and calculated beforehand. So that morality can be made into human nature by doing continuous exercises until it becomes a good self give birth to good morals. Sumber filsafat etika Ibnu Miskawaih berasal dari Filsafat Yunani, peradaban Persia, ajaran Islam dan pengalaman pribadi. Di Pemikirannya tentang etika, ia mulai dengan menjelajahi jiwa manusia. Dia bahwa psikologi memiliki keutamaan tersendiri dibandingkan dengan yang lain psikologi lainnya. Ajaran etika Ibn Miskawaih berasal dari teori anjing betina lingkungan. Ini untuk mengatakan bahwa kebajikan moral secara umum didefinisikan sebagai sebagai posisi tengah, keuntungan ekstrim dan kerugian ekstrim masing-masing jiwa manusia. Jadi, menurut Ibnu Miskawaih, akhlak adalah keadaan pikiran yang mengajak seseorang untuk bertindak tanpa berpikir dan dihitung sebelumnya. Sehingga moralitas dapat menjelma menjadi fitrah manusia dengan melakukan latihan terus menerus sampai ia menjadi diri yang baik melahirkan akhlak yang baik.     KEHIDUPAN DAN STRATEGI SURVIVE ISTRI JAMAAH TABLIGH SELAMA DITINGGAL KHURUJ DI SURALAGA, LOMBOK TIMUR NUSA TENGGARA BARAT

    The purpose of this study is to outline the opinions of women of Jamaah Tabligh members regarding their husbands\u27 khuruj activities, the effects of khuruj on the family, and the ways they cope while participating in khuruj. According to the study\u27s findings, Tablighi Jamaat women primarily view their husbands\u27 khuruj da\u27wah efforts as a means of engaging in jihad in Allah\u27s cause, developing spiritually, and fortifying links with other Muslims around the world. Additionally, the results of this study indicate that khuruj activities have both positive and negative effects on families, leading wives to employ survival strategies like turning to Allah (tawakal), managing the assets left by their husbands, fortifying bonds with other Tablighi Jamaat wives, forging ties with the local community, and taking over their husband\u27s responsibilities. A qualitative research method with a phenomenological perspective was used in this study. Using the snowball sampling technique, informants were located in the East Lombok village of Suralaga. In-depth interviews, documentation, and observation were employed as the data collection methods. Data gathering, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drafting are some of the data analysis approaches employed in this study. Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan tentang pandangan istri anggota Jamaah Tabligh terhadap aktivitas khuruj suaminya, dampak khuruj terhadap keluarga dan strategi survive mereka selama ditinggal khuruj. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa istri-istri Jamaah Tabligh sebagian besar melihatnya aktivitas khuruj dakwah suaminya sebagai sarana dakwah dan jihad di jalan Allah, sarana dakwah untuk meperbaiki diri sendiri dan sarana mempererat tali silaturahmi kepada sesama Muslim di berbagai tempat. Selain itu, temuan riset ini menunjukkan adanya dampak positif dan negatif aktivitas khuruj terhadap keluarga sehingga istri menggunakan strategi untuk survide seperti berserah diri kepada Allah (tawakal), mengelola bekal (uang dan barang) yang ditinggalkan oleh suami, memperkuat relasi dengan istri anggota Jamaah Tabligh, menjalin hubungan dengan masyarakat dan bekerja. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan fenomenologi. Penentuan informan menggunakan teknik Snowball Sampling di desa Suralaga Lombok Timur. Adapun teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan observasi, wawancara mendalam dan dokumentasi. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu pengumpulan data, reduksi data, peyajian data dan penarikan kesimpulan.     Inter-Religious Engagement Fight For Environmental Crisis: Eco-Bhinneka Muhammadiyah as a Facilitator of Religious Harmony through Environmental Care

    This research explores the role of Eco-Bhineka Muhammadiyah Indonesia in building interfaith harmony through environmental awareness. Eco-Bhineka Muhammadiyah is a community-based movement that promotes environmental conservation and interfaith cooperation. Using qualitative methods, this study explores the motives and experiences of Eco-Bhineka Muhammadiyah members in interacting with other religious communities. The research findings show that the movement has successfully fostered interfaith harmony and collaboration through various activities, such as waste management, promoting environmentally friendly lifestyles, and interfaith dialogue. Eco-Bhineka Muhammadiyah has also helped break down stereotypes and prejudices among members of different religious communities and promote a shared commitment to environmental protection. This study contributes to understanding how environmental initiatives can serve as a platform for interfaith dialogue and cooperation and how such initiatives can contribute to building a more inclusive and harmonious society
