    Amr Ma\u27ruf wa Nahi Munkar: Gerakan Kadizadeli dan Kritik Sufisme di Kerajaan Ottoman Abad ke-17: Amr Ma’ruf wa Nahi Munkar: Kadizadeli Movement and Critique of Sufism in the 17th Century Ottoman Empire

    This research will explore the Kadizadeli movement in the Ottoman empire in the 17th century. The Kadizadeli movement is a movement led by clerics who were previously Friday preachers at mosques in Istanbul. This movement wanted to purify Islam from the heretical behavior and activities of the Sufis who according to them had demoralized Ottoman society in the 17th century. In Islamic history, for example, there are several figures who also criticized Sufism, Ibn Tayimiyah or Ibn Jauzi. The complex problems of the 17th century have inspired some scholars, especially Kadizadeli, to fix them. Using the jargon, Amr ma\u27ruf wa nahi munkar, they began to criticize and attack the practices of Sufism in the Ottoman empire. By using historical research and literature this research produced several findings. Historically, this movement was led by three people, namely: Kadizade Mehmed, Ustuvani Mehmed and Vani Mehmed. Initially this movement only conveyed their criticism of Sufism activities through sermons and writings. However, when Ustuvani and Vani led this movement and gained a special relationship with the ottoman rulers, this movement led to radical actions.     EKSPRESI KONVERSI AGAMA SANTRIWATI PONDOK PESANTREN ULUL ALBAB BALIREJO, UMBULHARJO, YOGYAKARTA

    Abstract Islamic boarding schools are one of the educational institution for the development of one\u27s noble character. As an Islamic Education Institutions, it continuously strives to instill moral education in students and to form a noble human person. Based on the understanding of religious dogmas obtained from Islamic boarding schools it leads to the practices or consequences of a female student in doing good deeds according to religious teachings. From environmental reasons and the habits of a female student in participating in daily activities at the Ulul Albab Islamic boarding school, there are those whose lives have experienced a religious conversion. The indicators seen from the characteristics themselves are adherence to religion and the behavior that is displayed from habits, emotions, traditional contacts, suggestions, willingness related to the Islamic boarding school environment. This study uses the theory of Dzakiyah Daradjat and Glock & Stack, this type of research is qualitative, namely research conducted by collecting data from field survey results. Data collection was carried out by direct observation, interviews with the parties concerned and documentation. This study aims to provide an overview of the religious conversion expressions of female students at the Ulul Albab Balirejo Islamic boarding school, Yogyakarta. The results showed that the female students of the Ulul Albab Balirejo Islamic Boarding School experienced religious conversions which were influenced by several factors, namely the mental conflict factor, the relationship factor with religious traditions, the invitation factor, the emotional factor, the adolescent factor, the theology factor and the willingness factor. And experiencing the process of the stages of religious conversion itself, namely, in the process of religious conversion felt by the students of the Ulul Albab Balirejo Islamic boarding school including periods of anxiety, periods of conversion crisis, periods of calm, and periods of expression of conversion. So that the female students of the Ulul Albab Balirejo Islamic boarding school experienced religious changes in a better direction, giving rise to differences in the expression of religious dimensions before and after experiencing religious conversion which included the dimensions of belief, dimensions of religious rituals, experiential dimensions, intellectual dimensions, and consequential dimensions. Keywords: Religious Conversion, Santriwati, Islamic Boarding School Abstrak Pondok pesantren adalah salah satu wadah pengembangan akhlak mulia seseorang. Lembaga Pendidikan Islam yang secara terus – menerus berusaha untuk menanamkan pendidikan akhlak kepada para santri. Untuk membentuk pribadi manusia yang mulia, pendidikan akhlak memiliki peran yang sangat penting. Dari pemahaman dan dogma agama yang didapatkan dari pondok pesantren membawa kepada pengamalan atau konsekuensi seorang santriwati dalam melakukan perbuatan baik sesuai ajaran agama. Dari sebab lingkungan dan kebiasaan seorang santriwati dalam mengikuti kegiatan sehari-hari di pondok pesantren Ulul Albab ada yang kehidupannya mengalami konversi agama. Indikator yang dilihat dari karakteristik itu sendiri yaitu ketaatan terhadap agama dan perilaku yang ditampilkannya dari kebiasaan, emosional, kontak tradisi, sugesti, kemauan yang bekaitan dengan lingkungan pondok pesantren. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori Dzakiyah Daradjat dan Glock & Stack, jenis penelitian ini kualitatif yaitu penelitian yang dilakukan dengan mengumpulkan data dari hasil survei lapangan. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan melakukan observasi secara langsung, wawancara kepada pihak yang bersangkutan dan dokumentasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan gambaran mengenai ekspresi konversi agama santriwati pondok pesantren Ulul Albab Balirejo Yogyakarta. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa santriwati Pondok Pesantren Ulul Albab Balirejo mengalami konversi agama yang dipengaruhi oleh beberapa faktor yaitu faktor konflik jiwa, faktor hubungan dengan tradisi agama, faktor ajakan, faktor emosi, faktor adolesen, faktor teologi dan faktor kemauan. Dan mengalami proses tahapan dari konversi agama itu sendiri yaitu, dalam proses konversi agama yang dirasakan oleh santriwati pondok pesantren Ulul Albab Balirejo meliputi periode masa kegelisahan, periode masa krisis konversi, periode masa ketenangan, dan periode masa ekspresi konversi. Sehingga santriwati pondok pesantren Ulul Albab Balirejo mengalami perubahan keagamaan kearah yang lebih baik sehingga menimbulkan perbedaan ekspresi dimensi keagamaan sebelum dan sesudah mengalami konversi agama yang meliputi, dimensi keyakinan, dimensi ritual keagamaan, dimensi eksperiensial, dimensi intelektual, dan dimensi konsekuensi.     A MODEL FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF RELIGIOUS MODERATION IN MADRASAH: Case Studies in Kediri and Surabaya

    This research is an Applied Research on National Strategic Studies, on the Implementation Model of Religious Moderation in Madrasahs by taking case studies in Surabaya City and Kediri Regency. Objectives of the activity: First, to analyze management patterns in implementing religious moderation in madrasas. Second, examine the application of subject teacher learning in implementing religious moderation in madrasas for their students. Third, describe the obstacles faced by madrasa institutions in implementing religious moderation. The research design is a field research design in which the researcher will conduct observations and interviews with the respondents on the issues raised. These findings will be analyzed using the social construction theory of Peter L. Berger.The results of the study show: First, the management pattern in implementing religious moderation in madrasas begins with determining the vision and mission of the madrasa, and preparing the madrasa work program, which is documented in the Madrasah Strategic Plan (Resntra), Madrasah Work Plan, Annual Activity Plan, Madrasah Activity Plan and Budget, and Madrasah Curriculum. Second, Madrasas in implementing religious moderation generally use three patterns, namely: (1) integrating with the learning process; (2) habituation activities; (3) through extracurricular. Based on the implementation model of religious moderation at the madrasah, it can generally be concluded that these patterns follow Peter L. Berger\u27s Social Construction Theory, namely the existence of stages in implementation such as the preparation of vision and mission, work programs and habituation to the institution (process externalization), implementation of vision and mission, work programs, and habituation to madrasas (objectification process), and a correct understanding of moderation and implementation in everyday life both in the school, home, and community environment (internalization process).Based on the findings/results of the research, the suggestions/recommendations that can be given are: (1) there needs to be socialization, workshops, technical guidance, training on religious moderation for all educators and education personnel in Madrasahs to create a unified insight; (2) The government, in this case, the Ministry of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia needs to provide a separate budget related to religious moderation activities, especially in madrasas so that activities can be carried out massively, systematically, and structured from the main level to the madrasa level; and (3) Madrasahs need to coordinate with parents through the madrasa committee, and carry out MoUs with stakeholders such as national private companies through CSR programs in implementing religious moderation in madrasas so that activities can be carried out massively and planned

    The Theological Significance of Non-Chronological Qur\u27anic Stories: Moral Resonance in Strengthening the Da\u27wah Mission

    The narration of Qur\u27anic stories, which are identified as non-chronological, often leads to assertions about their function as advice and moral lessons, raising theological questions about their scientific nature. The way people understand these stories often focuses on their lessons and guidance, missing how they relate to the Prophet\u27s da\u27wah. This study delves into the relationship between these narratives and their historical context, employing qualitative methods and drawing on the Sapir-Whorf Hypothesis, which suggests that language shapes our understanding of the world. Focusing on the narratives depicting the stories of the Prophets in Surah Hūd [11], the study reveals that the parts of these stories that emphasize the rejection of da\u27wah resonate with the experiences of Prophet Muhammad. The accounts of the rejected Prophets serve as a catalyst to ignite Prophet Muhammad\u27s fervor for da\u27wah through the power of language. The portrayal of rejection in every da\u27wah struggle, accompanied by the narrative of punishment and annihilation, is distinctively crafted in the Qur\u27an, with a focus on punishment in the afterlife. The Prophet Muhammad\u27s circumstances during the process of proselytizing are the primary factor in arranging the story fragments without chronological order

    The Mustofa Bisri Channel\u27s usage of YouTube to study tafsir al-Ibrīz represents a substantial shift from traditional teaching techniques. This phenomenon demonstrates a shift from traditional educational techniques to the use of modern technology, particularly social media, to convey religious knowledge. Mustofa Bisri, better known as Gus Mus, uses vernacularization to provide explanations for current situations. This study focuses on how social media promotes conversation between historical texts and present realities. This study examines vernacularization in tafsir al-Ibrīzsessions, including oral interpretation and its impact on comprehension. The Mustofa Bisri Channel\u27s usage of YouTube to study tafsir al-Ibrīz represents a substantial shift from traditional teaching techniques. The authority of a traditional scholar, such as Gus Mus, provides a counter-narrative to less experienced ustaz, indicating pesantren\u27s metamorphosis in the face of modern challenges. This qualitative study employs YouTube content analysis to investigate how local discourse is addressed in spoken interpretations, as well as how oral qualities influence the meaning and relevance of Quranic teachings. Tafsir al-Ibrīz sessions on YouTube demonstrate vernacularization by the use of local language and replies to modern challenges, increasing understanding of Quranic studies. The characteristics of oral interpretation, including the use of conservative language and situational meaning, as well as audience engagement, illustrate how Gus Mus adapts to modernity while preserving the diverse traditions of pesantren teaching

    Abstrak Kitab-kitab tafsir dalam skala global, selalu menunjukkan adanya perubahan gejolak pemikiran. Salah satu yang kentara adalah sikap moderasi dalam tafsir. Seorang mufassir pasti memiliki wacana yang sesuai dengan latar belakang yang ia pegang teguh dalam penulisan tafsirnya, dan keniscayaan ini dibarengi dengan kemunculan berbagai wacana-wacana lain di luar background mufassir sendiri. Hal ini memicu perbedaan pilihan sikap mufassir menyikapi polivalensi wacana tafsir, antara membela dirinya atau memoderasi pemikirannya. Maka dalam tulisan ini penulis akan membahas Dinamika Tafsir dari Sektarian ke Moderat. Sumber primer penulis mengunakan  al-Ijttihajat al-Munharifat fi Tafsir al-Qur’an karya Hussein ad-Zahabi dan Muhammad Hadi Ma’rifat al Tafsir wa al Mufassirun fi Tsaubihi al Qasyib. Kitab-kitab tafsir Syiah menjadi potret yang jelas tentang perjalanan moderasi tafsir. Khazanah klasik Syiah memiliki kecenderungan berbeda dengan kontemporer, dari yang sangat menjunjung apologetik menuju sikap moderat.     Abstrak Kontroversi nyanyian Havenu Shalom Aleichem (HSA) di Pondok Al-Zaytun memicu sebagian umat Islam mencari informasi tentang lagu ini. Hasil pencarian informasi ini kemudian dijadikan berita dan landasan fatwa. Tujuan penelitian ini mengidentifikasi dan mengevaluasi sumber informasi digital tentang lagu HSA dalam pemberitaan Republika dan fatwa Bahtsul Masail (BM) Ma\u27had Aly Andalusia. Dengan pendekatan studi kasus, penelitian ini menganalisis dokumen pemberitaan oleh Republika dan dokumen BM berdasarkan teori literasi agama dan literasi digital. Kajian ini menemukan Republika dan BM menyatakan bahwa lagu HSA adalah nyanyian dalam ibadah agama Yahudi. Informasi ini tidak akurat dan timbul dari pengambilan informasi digital tanpa evaluasi yang memadai. Sumber yang otoritatif menjelaskan lagu HSA adalah lagu sekuler bukan nyanyian dalam ibadah agama Yahudi. Penelitian ini menunjukkan dari sisi literasi agama, bagi umat Islam Indonesia, yang terpenting untuk diketahui adalah pengetahuan tentang ibadah agama lain.   Kata kunci: literasi agama, literasi digital, lagu, ibadah.   Abstract The controversy over the singing of Havenu Shalom Aleichem (HSA) at Pondok Al-Zaytun triggered some Muslims to seek information about this song. The results of this information search are then used as news and the basis for a fatwa. The aim of this research is to identify and evaluate digital sources of information about HSA song in Republika reporting and Bahtsul Masail (BM) Ma\u27had Aly Andalusia\u27s fatwa. Using a case study approach, this research analyzes news documents by Republika and BM documents based on theories of religious literacy and digital literacy. This study found that Republika and BM stated that the HSA song was a song in Jewish worship or liturgy. This information is inaccurate and arises from the browsing of digital information without adequate evaluation. Authoritative sources explain that HSA songs are secular songs, not songs in Jewish religious services. This research shows that in terms of religious literacy, for Indonesian Muslims, the most important thing to know is knowledge about the ritual of other religions.   Key words: religious literacy, digital literacy, song, liturgy

    The debate about the meaning of the term ahl al-sunnah wa al-jamā\u27ah in the iftirāq al-ummah hadith has not stopped until now. Each group has different views and claims to each other as the most deserving of that status. Al-Barbahari (d. 329 H), one of the figures of the Hanbali school of thought, tried to revive this understanding, but then tried to revive it haphazardly by modern Salafi-Wahhabi groups in order to legitimize the takfiri movement and anti-heresy sentiments. This article explains the views of al-Barbahari in the book Syarḥ al-Sunnah with several basic questions; first, what is al-Barbahari\u27s view in interpreting ahl al-sunnah wa al-jamā\u27ah?, and second, what is the approach of manhaj wasaṭiyyah al-Azhar in explaining the same term? To analyze this problem, the writer uses descriptive-analytical method through the approach of manhaj al-Azhar al-Syarif and found the fact that Al-Barbahari has the characteristics of thinking that tend to be textual and pragmatic. Thus, there are many discrepancies in the discourse of aqidah, the use of reason in understanding the texts, and the methods of criticism and syarah of hadith are not appropriate

    Conception of Tradition and Religion According to Seyyed Hossein Nasr, Abdurrahman Wahid, and Nurcholish Majid

    This article explores three primary perspectives regarding the concepts of tradition and religion. Despite the prevailing tendency among modern Muslim communities to separate tradition from religion, this research presents a contrasting view. For instance, Seyyed Hossein Nasr investigates the essential relationship between tradition and religion, formulating a new approach grounded in perennial philosophy. Additionally, Abdurrahman Wahid significantly contributes by defining tradition and religion within the discourse of localism, providing profound insights into how they mutually shape the cultural and social identity of modern Muslim society. On the other hand, Nurcholish Madjid proposes that tradition and religion are parallel within the concept of the Great Tradition, offering a unique understanding of their interrelation. Utilizing a comparative study method, this article analyzes the perspectives of these three scholars on tradition and religion. This research is expected to provide valuable insights and stimulate further discussion on the intricate relationship between tradition and religion in the context of modern Muslim thought

    Artikel ini mengkaji penggunaan politik identitas dalam kontroversi pendirian rumah ibadah di Provinsi DKI Jakarta dan Provinsi Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta. Kami menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif deskriptif dengan pendekatan sosiologi pembanguna. Hasil penelitian kami menemukan bahwa kasus penyegelan Gereja Pantekosta di Indonesia (GPDI) Sleman, diakibatkan oleh kebijakan negara dan intimidasi dari Front Jihad Islam (FJI) Yogyakarta. Posisi minoritas belum menjadi perhatian utama penguasa lokal karena belum memberi dampak timbal balik karena itu berpotensi mendisrupsi tatanan sosial dan ekonomi yang telah eksis. Sedangkan di Jakarta Utara, umat Islam yang menolak penggusuran Masjid Mbah Priok memperlihatkan konservatisme Islam. Posisi Islam menjadi agama favorit Gubernur di Provinsi DKI Jakarta agar kekuasaannya tidak dikacaukan oleh fundamentalis Muslim yang memiliki kekuatan ekonomi dan politik.
