Kauman: A Contemporary Little Mecca in Indonesia
The concept of "Little Meccas" in Indonesia refers to settlements designed to foster a symbolic connection between local communities and Mecca, the holiest city in Islam. This paper delves into Kauman, a historic enclave in Yogyakarta that has served as a vibrant center of Islamic learning since the Sultanate era. By focusing on Kauman Yogyakarta, this study examines its transformation from a small residential area to a larger community that ultimately inspired the birth of Muhammadiyah, a prominent reformist Islamic movement. The paper explores the historical connections between Kauman and the Middle East, particularly the influence of pan-Islamism and reformist Islamic movements. This influence is further highlighted by the presence of architectural elements reflecting Middle Eastern styles. Notably, Kauman\u27s pedestrianized zones prioritize tranquility for students pursuing Islamic studies in prayer halls (suraus or langgars). This emphasis on quietude underscores the importance placed on Arabic-style Islamic education within the enclave. In conclusion, this study investigates the ongoing influence of the Middle East on Islamic practices and education in Kauman. It sheds light on the concept of "Little Meccas" as a historical and cultural phenomenon in Indonesia.
Implementation of the Hadith on Maintain the Cleanliness by Santri of Siti Fatimah Islamic Boarding School, Kanggraksan: Implementasi Hadis Menjaga Kebersihan oleh Santri Pondok Pesantren Siti fatimah, Kanggraksan
The issue of cleanliness is one aspect that Islam pays great attention to. This can be seen from several Al-Qur\u27an texts and hadiths which equate the level of cleanliness with a person\u27s faith, so it is appropriate for Muslims to implement clean living behavior in their daily lives, especially students in Islamic boarding schools. This article explains the existence of various religious texts regarding cleanliness which are studied by santri through recitation with two basic questions; first, what is the knowledge of the Siti Fatimah Islamic Boarding School students regarding cleanliness traditions?; and second, does the students\u27 knowledge of the hadith on cleanliness have a relationship with clean living behavior? These questions were then studied using quantitative methods with a correlational approach and analyzed using the theory of reasoned action. The results of this research show that there is no significant relationship between knowledge of cleanliness hadiths and clean living behavior of Siti Fatimah Islamic Boarding School students. Based on the analysis of the theory of reasoned action, the santri\u27s clean living behavior is purely a behavior, there are no other influencing factors
Religious Awareness of Mabrur Hajj Pilgrims in Performing the Hajj Pilgrimage based on the Hadith of the Prophet: Kesadaran Beragama Jamaah Haji Mabrur dalam Melakukan Ibadah Haji berdasarkan Hadits Nabi
As one of the pillars of Islam, the Hajj has great urgency to be carried out by every Muslim who is considered to have the ability. Apart from being an obligation, the Hajj also has many advantages, as explained in the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad. This research examines the congregation\u27s acceptance of the hadith on the virtues of the Hajj and its implementation in carrying out the Hajj pilgrimage through two problem formulations; first, what is the reception of the Hajj pilgrims towards the hadith; and second, what is the form of implementation of the hadith by the congregation? This question was analyzed using a qualitative approach with in-depth interview methods supported by data related to the pilgrims\u27 understanding of the hadith of the virtues of the Hajj and the practices carried out during the Hajj pilgrimage. The research results show that the majority of Hajj pilgrims understand and accept the hadith and the virtues of Hajj well. They try to practice the teachings in the hadith, such as increasing worship, protecting themselves from immoral acts, and increasing spirituality during the Hajj. This shows the high awareness of Hajj pilgrims about carrying out the Hajj pilgrimage as well as possible. This research concludes that the congregation\u27s acceptance of the hadith on the virtues of the Hajj is quite good, and they try to apply it in the implementation of the Hajj, so that this can contribute to a deeper understanding of the dynamics of people\u27s spiritual life
The Reception of Hamka\u27s Tafsir Al-Azhar within Social Religious Issues in the Malay World
This study explores the reception and impact of Hamka\u27s Tafsir Al-Azhar across the Malay world, particularly in Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, and Singapore. Tafsir Al-Azhar, written by the renowned Malay scholar Hamka, is a significant work of Qur\u27anic exegesis that has influenced Islamic thought in Southeast Asia. By employing a qualitative research method, specifically a case study with phenomenological analysis, this research investigates how Tafsir Al-Azhar has been received, interpreted, and utilized by various Muslim communities in these regions. The study examines the historical context in which Hamka\u27s work was produced, focusing on its dissemination and its pivotal role in addressing socio-religious issues from the mid-20th century to the present day. By applying reception theory, the analysis highlights the dynamic interaction between the text and its readers, revealing how interpretations of Tafsir Al-Azhar have evolved in response to shifting social, political, and cultural landscapes. The research also explores the influence of external religious streams, modernity, and globalization on the Malay Muslim identity, and how these factors have shaped the adaptation and reception of traditional tafsir practices. The findings suggest that while Tafsir Al-Azhar has become a central reference in the religious life of Malay Muslims, its reception varies significantly across different countries. These variations are influenced by local cultural, religious, and political contexts, as well as by Hamka\u27s personal interactions with these communities. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of Qur\u27anic interpretation in Southeast Asia, emphasizing the importance of contextualizing tafsir to address the diverse needs and challenges of Muslim communities in the region
Implikasi Postmodernisme Dalam Masyarakat Kontemporer (Analisis Paradigma Pemikiran Tokoh Jean Francois Lyotard)
This article aims to investigate the implications of postmodernism in contemporary society by analyzing the paradigm of thought of the figure Jean-François Lyotard. Lyotard is known as one of the leading thinkers in postmodern thought, and this research aims to understand how his idea of skepticism towards grand narratives influences and permeates the structures of power, knowledge, and language in the context of contemporary society. This study uses a qualitative approach with a focus on the analysis of key texts by Jean-François Lyotard, especially "The Postmodern Condition: A Report on Knowledge." Analysis is performed to identify key concepts such as grand narratives, language games, and changes in knowledge structure. In addition, literature studies on the application of these concepts in the context of contemporary society are also involved to support research findings. The research findings suggest that Lyotard\u27s postmodern views have significant implications in contemporary society. Skepticism of grand narratives creates space for narrative plurality, uncertainty of knowledge, and diverse language games. These implications affect power structures by challenging central authority and paving the way for a diversity of values and views. In addition, Lyotard\u27s concepts also had an impact on changes in the way society understood and conveyed knowledge
Rekonstruksi Pendidikan Agama Formal Bagi Penghayat Kepercayaan Di Indonesia
Abstrak
Pendidikan agama formal bagi penghayat kepercayaan dalam kurikulum pembelajaran di Indonesia menjadi kebutuhan mendesak di tengah tantangan globalisasi dan kompleksitas sosial-budaya. Penelitian ini mengkaji urgensi, pendekatan, dan tantangan dalam pemberlakuan pendidikan formal untuk penghayat kepercayaan di Indonesia. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa, terdapat upaya yang dilakukan dengan mengeluarkan Permendikbud Nomor 27 Tahun 2016 Sebagai Bentuk Solusi Atas Diskriminasi Pada Siswa Penghayat Kepercayaan. Hanya saja yang perlu digarisbawahi adalah, adanya perbedaan yang cukup banyak antar aliran penghayat yang ada di Indonesia. Ketika berbicara perihal nilai-nilai religius untuk pendidikannya maka tidak cocok ketika harus disatukan secara global. Masing-masing aliran penghayat kepercayaan memiliki entitas dan nilai-nilainya tersendiri yang akan berbeda satu sama lainnya. Terdapat alternatif yang dapat dipertimbangkan untuk mengatasinya, yaitu dengan cara merangkul sekolah adat untuk bekerjasama dengan sekolah formal. Sekolah adat merupakan bentuk sekolah informal yang didirikan pada suatu daerah tertentu oleh masyarakatnya. Basis dari sekolah ini adalah kearifan lokal yang dimiliki oleh daerah yang bersangkutan agar dapat dikenalkan kepada anak-anak maupun masyarakat luas.

The Role of Environmental Verses in Responding to The Climate Crisis: A Comparative Dialogical Study of the Qur\u27an and the Bible
The global climate crisis requires a multidimensional approach, including a religious perspective. The Qur\u27an and the Bible, as the main sacred texts in the Islamic and Christian traditions, respectively guide man\u27s responsibility to the environment. This study explores how these two sacred texts address environmental issues in the context of climate change. This study aims to analyze and compare environmental teachings in the Qur\u27an and the Bible, identify similarities and differences in the principles of ecological responsibility, and evaluate their theological and practical implications for climate crisis mitigation efforts. A dialogic-comparative approach is used to analyze relevant verses in the Qur\u27an and the Bible. The study involved a comparison of texts, identification of major themes, and analysis of theological and applicative differences in environmental contexts. The research found that the Qur\u27an emphasizes the concept of ‘Khalifah fil’ ardh’ or human leadership over the earth, focusing on resource management and damage prohibition. On the contrary, the Bible teaches the responsibility of caring for the Garden of Eden and showing mercy towards living things. Theological differences include the Qur\u27anic view of moral reform to address environmental damage and the Qur\u27anic view of eschatological punishment. Despite differences in the interpretation and application of religious teachings, similarities in the principles of responsibility for God\u27s creation offer a basis for interfaith dialogue and collaboration. The universal values of the Qur\u27an and the Bible can reinforce collective efforts in climate crisis mitigation while respecting the diversity of religious perspectives.

Legends and Legacies of Siti Jenar: Ecstatic Sufism and the Politics of Shath
The legend of Siti Jenar is among the most widely known and controversial tales in Javanese Islamic literature. While the details vary enormously, the core of the story is the same. Siti Jenar is the saint (wali) who passes beyond religion, as it is usually defined. He comes to know that there is ultimately only one reality -- that of Allah -- and that we all share in it. He is put on trial for publicly proclaiming the doctrine of the unity of being (wahdat al-wujud) that identifies the human soul with the essence of Allah (dat) and for rejecting modes of ritual performance required by Shari’ah including the Friday prayer. He was then executed on orders from the other wali. There are many versions of the story in Javanese chronicles (babad) and religious texts. Many more that circulate as oral tradition. There is a continuous string of new books, most of the in Indonesian instead of Javanese and websites retelling the story for contemporary audiences
Comparison of Women’s Perceptions of Violent Extremism between Ambon City and Yogyakarta City
Women’s vulnerability to exposure to violent extremism must receive serious attention from all groups. This is because extremism spreads easily and quickly, especially with recruitment using social media which is very easy to reach many groups. The location situation and describing the typology of women’s perceptions of violent extremism in Ambon City and Yogyakarta City, and analyzing the factors that influence women’s perceptions of acts of extremism are the objectives of the research carried out. Approach The research method used is the Quantitative Approach using the Independent Sample t-Test. The results of the research show that the factors that influence perceptions on the Knowledge variable in Ambon City have an average of 41.97 and Yogyakarta City has an average of 26.41, then Action in Ambon City has an average of 34.09 and Yogyakarta City 33. 85, Attitudes in Ambon City have an average of 32.10 and Yogyakarta City 30.90, and Reasons in Ambon City have an average of 22.09 and Yogyakarta City 22.51. There are differences in women’s perceptions on the knowledge variable in Ambon City and Yogyakarta City. Women’s perceptions of extreme violence in Ambon City and Yogyakarta City are strongly influenced by the social context and experiences of conflict
STUDI LIVING QUR’AN DALAM ANIMASI UPIN DAN IPIN: REPRESENTASI NASIHAT LUQMAN AL-HAKIM DEPISODE INDAHNYA RUMAH RASA SAYANG
This research focuses on the representation of Luqman Hakim\u27s advice in the animation Upin and Ipin episode "Indahnya Rumah Rasa Sayang" using Living Qur\u27an perspective. This research is a qualitative descriptive research based on literature sources. The data used in this study came from observation and documentation. The purpose of this study, firstly, is to analyze the verbal messages in the series and Luqman\u27s advice to his son in Surah Luqman 12-19. Secondly, this study aimed to discuss the application of the living Qur\u27an in popular culture, especially films. The results of the study found seven pieces of advice on abstaining from surah Luqman verse 12-19 that appear in this episode. Those advices are 1) a commandment to always be grateful 2) orders always do good to parents 3) explain all human actions, good and bad 4) commanding prayers and commanding to do ma\u27ruf (good), prevent the evil, and be patient in dealing with various things happened 5) giving a smile and a cheerful face and not looking away from other people because of pride 6) equalize in behaving and speaking; 7) maintain good manners in interacting with others.

Penelitian ini bertujuan membahas tentang representasi nasihat Luqman Hakim dalam animasi Upin dan Ipin episode “Indahnya Rumah Rasa Sayang”: Perspektif Living Qur’an. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif deskriptif yang berbasis dari sumber-sumber pustaka. Data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini berasal dari observasi dan dokumentasi dari tersebut. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu, pertama menganalisis pesan-pesan verbal di serial tersebut dan nasihat Lukman kepada anaknya dalam Surah Luqman 12-19. Kedua, mendiskusikan aplikasi living qur’an dalam budaya populer, khususnya film. Hasil penelitian menjelaskan terdapat tujuh nasihat penting yang terdapat surat Lukman ayat 12-19 yang diimplementasikan dalam tayangan ini, yaitu 1) perintah untuk selalu bersyukur; 2) perintah selalu berbuat baik kepada orang tua; 3) menjelaskan seluruh perbuatan manusia, baik dan buruknya; 4) perintah shalat, mengerjakan yang ma’ruf, mencegah kemunkaran, serta sabar terhadap berbagai hal yang menimpa; 5) memberikan senyuman dan wajah yang ceria serta tidak memalingkan wajah dari orang lain karena sombong; 6) sederhana dalam bertingkah laku dan berbicara; 7) menjaga budi bahasa dalam berinteraksi dengan orang lain.
