    The Intercultural Accomodation Between Ethnic Arabics, Chines, and Malays in Palembang

    This study tries to see how the forms of accommodation and interaction models between Arab, Chinese, and Malay communities are so that they live side by side in Palembang that this city gets the title of a Zero Conflict city. This study uses an ethnographic approach by recording events that affect intercultural interactions. In addition, the data collection technique was carried out by engaging the three communities, interviewing, observing, and documenting the object under study. This study concludes that the three ethnic groups live in Palembang’s same social and economic ecosystem and adapt well. However, there have been conflicts involving the Chinese community in Palembang. The interaction pattern between the three tribes is based on values ​​, which is transactional harmonious inter-ethnic integration

    The Dynamic of Contextualization in Indonesian Qur\u27anic Tafsirs: A Comparative Study of Tafsir Al-Azhar and Tafsir Al-Mishbāh on The Story of The Prophet Moses

    The Indonesian Qur’anic tafsirs represent a contextual approach. Each tafsir scholar has different characteristics in contextualizing the meaning of the Qur’an so that it is relevant to contemporary Indonesian society. This article aims to show the dynamic character of Indonesian Qur’anic interpretation in contextualizing the meaning of the verses about Moses in the Indonesian context. This research uses a comparative method against the al-Azhar tafsir written by Haji Abdul Malik bin Karim Amrullah, also known as Hamka, and the Tafsir al-Mishbāh by M. Quraish Shihab. The three aspects compared and the research questions include: How is the story of Prophet Moses narrated in the two tafsir books? What are the interpretation methods used in the verses about the story of Prophet Moses, and how can the lessons from the story of Prophet Moses align with the Indonesian cultural context? The research results show that both tafsir books have similarities in making the story of Moses relevant to Indonesian society. The difference is that Tafsir al-Mishbāh appears more disciplined in following the textual meaning of the Qur’anic verses. In contrast, Tafsir al-Azhar is more flexible in its storytelling improvisation, making the story of Moses more cohesive and engaging. Shihab understands the story of Moses as Allah’s plan to overthrow human arrogance (Pharaoh), with a narrative flow following Allah’s laws. This retelling represents Shihab’s traditionalist and pragmatic thinking. In contrast, Hamka is more rational and critical. He views the story of Moses as a struggle and heroism that teaches the importance of hard work and intelligence in facing life’s challenges. The findings of this research contribute to showing the dynamic nature of Indonesian contextual tafsir. It illustrates how the Qur’anic interpretation maintains its textual meaning while remaining relevant for contemporary readers

    Dalam penelitian ini nantinya akan menganalisis pemikiran Al-Ghazali berasal dari golongan Timur  dan Ibnu Rusyd berasal dari golongan Barat tentang logika (Burhani), yang mana memiliki perbedaan antara kedua tokoh tersebut menyangkutkan tentang epistimologi burhaninya, menurut pandangan Al-Ghazali wahyu itu memiliki kredibilitas yang pasti dibandingkan dengan akal, karena wahyu bersumber dari tuhan, nah disini Ibnu Rusyd berpandanganbahwa wahyu dan rasional itu saling melengkapi satu sama lain, karena tanpa rasional akal wahyu tidak akan dapat di pahami. Tujuan penelitian ini memberikan jawaban secara ilmiah tentang pemikiran kedua tokoh tersebut dalam hal filsafat Islam, serta memberikan bacaan refleksi untuk khalayak masyarakat secara umum. Metode yang digunaka dalam penelitian ini adalah (Library Research). Hasil dari penelitian ini menghasilkan empat model paradigma, 1) mengenai penjabaran epistimologi burhani baik mengenai sumber, metode dan verifikasinya, 2) pemikiran burhani menurut pendangan al-ghazali baik mengenai sumber, metode, verifikasi dan kedudukan wahyu, 3) pemikiran burhani menurut Ibnu Rusyd baik mengenai sumber, metode, verifikasi dan kedudukan wahyu, lalu akan di sajikan mengenai epistimologi kedua tokoh tersebut baik persaman dan perbedaan yang menyangkut dalam ranah epistimologi burhani, serta kedudukan akal tersediri dalam perspektif kedua tokoh tersebut

    AL-TASĀMUH OR TOLERANCE IN THE QURAN AND SUNNAH AND CLAIMS OF THE DENIERS

    This research examines the topic of al- Tasāmuh in the Quran and Sunnah and how it aligns with the meaning declared in 1995. It is evident that there is a difference in meaning between the two. Those who deny al- Tasāmuh in Islam rely on a different concept that seeks to separate from religious and cultural identity and rely on secularism. This research shows that the scope of tolerance is wide in Islam, which gives Muslims and non-Muslims the right to coexist in safety. It is connected with what a person has the right to be tolerant in. As for Allah\u27s rights, they do not fall under this right. Moreover, freedom has limits to prevent self-harm or harming others. Islam does not impose religion on people, but focuses on dialogue and persuasion. To promote positive tolerance, emphasis should be placed on teaching future generations how to interact with others, and laws should protect the rights of all without tolerance for disrespect for religious sanctities or the spread of deviant behavior. Keyword: Al-Tasāmuh; Tolerance; Quran and Sunnah; Islamophobia.   Kajian ini membahas tentang topik al-Tasāmuh dalam Al-Quran dan Sunnah serta sejauh mana maknanya sesuai dengan apa yang disebutkan oleh UNESCO pada tahun 1995. Jelas sekali ada perbedaan makna di antara keduanya. Mereka yang menolak al-Tasāmuh dalam Islam mengandalkan berbagai konsep yang mencoba memisahkan diri dari identitas agama dan budaya serta mengandalkan sekularisme. Kajian ini menunjukkan bahwa ruang lingkup toleransi dalam Islam sangat luas, yang memberikan hak kepada umat Islam dan non-Muslim untuk hidup bersama dengan aman. Itu terkait dengan apa yang menjadi hak seseorang untuk toleran. Kebenaran Tuhan tidak termasuk dalam kebenaran ini. Selain itu, kebebasan memiliki batasan untuk mencegah kerugian bagi diri sendiri atau orang lain. Islam tidak memaksakan agama pada manusia, tetapi berfokus pada dialog dan persuasi. Untuk mempromosikan toleransi positif, perlu ditekankan pendidikan generasi mendatang tentang bagaimana berinteraksi dengan orang lain, dan undang-undang harus melindungi hak-hak semua orang tanpa menoleransi kerusakan kesucian agama atau berupaya menyebarkan perilaku menyimpang.     Transformasi Nāsikh-Mansūkh dalam Pandangan as-Suyūṭī: Respons terhadap Dinamika Sosial dan Kebutuhan Masyarakat

    As-Suyūṭī’s reconstruction of the nāsikh-mansūkh concept responds to shifts in social and historical contexts, aiming to maintain its relevance and applicability for Muslims. This study seeks to explore his stance on nāsikh-mansūkh by linking it to the legal reform mechanisms he developed. Utilizing a qualitative method within a sociology of knowledge framework, the research found that as-Suyūṭī’s understanding of nāsikh-mansūkh emerged from synthesizing previous thoughts, adapted to meet the needs of his era. As-Suyūṭī saw nāsikh-mansūkh as a concept born out of the evolving needs for new laws due to contextual changes. This perspective underpinned his argument for issuing various fatwas. This approach took shape in a society facing degradation in various aspects, necessitating new laws to address emerging needs. His pragmatic way of thinking was driven by the specific needs of his time, leading him to reconceptualize issues previously unrelated. This inclination led as-Suyūṭī to reject certain verses classified as nāsikh-mansūkh by earlier scholars, arguing that they no longer met societal needs. His adaptive approach diverged from the traditional thinking of his contemporaries in Islamic jurisprudence, sparking significant polemics and debates

    This article addresses the ongoing debate of the reliability of the Qur\u27an as a historical source, focusing on the codification and stabilization of its text. This research examines several significant works by Mun\u27im Sirry that have contributed to Qur\u27anic scholarship while raising controversies, particularly among Southeast Asian scholars. Sirry’s critical approach situates his thoughts within the broader discourse of traditionalist and revisionist streams in Qur\u27anic studies. This study employs a qualitative library research method, cross-referencing Qur\u27anic scholarship to investigate Sirry\u27s contributions. By comparing his thoughts with both traditionalist and revisionist views, the study aims to assess Sirry’s position and its impact on debates surrounding the historical authenticity of the Qur\u27an. The findings reveal that Sirry bridges the gap between the extreme skepticism of revisionists and the uncritical acceptance of traditionalists. His nuanced stance acknowledges both the textual evolution of the Qur\u27an and its historical significance. The study contributes to the ongoing debates on Qur\u27anic codification, revealing Sirry\u27s role as a critical yet balanced scholar who navigates between these two extremes. His approach emphasizes the importance of historical-critical methods while also recognizing the roles of key figures, such as Abdul Malik and Hajjaj, in stabilizing the Qur\u27an’s text. Sirry’s position fosters a deeper understanding of the Qur\u27an’s role in Islamic history, offering a middle path that challenges both traditionalist and revisionist interpretations

    Tracing Progressive Currents in Indonesian Islam and Christianity: Social Justice, Modernity, and Gender Equality

    This paper argues that Western Progressives influenced religious views influenced religious outlooks of both Islam and Christianity in Indonesia, despite their selective and adaptive attitude. In support of this argument, the article has looked at the parallel between Progressive and both religions by discussing the most common themes advanced by progressive religions as illustrated in the following four points: (1) progressive figures or organizations in Indonesia (2) social justice and religious freedom within Pancasila (3) the link between religion and modernity (4) gender equality. It is argued that the previous four points are fundamental issues that imply unfamiliar religious views that reflect their respective tenets. It is important to realize that this paper does not imply that the majority of Muslims and Indonesia are progressive. Nor does this paper want to judge whether progressive ideas are favorable or hurtful to the religion itself. Instead, this paper only tries to display one of the reflective sides of religions in Indonesia and leaves it to readers to assess this current development.   Keywords: Progressive, Islam, Christianity, Indonesi

    Revisiting the Legacy: The Ongoing Discourse on Ḥadīth of Ghadīr Khumm in Shiʻa Studies

    The study of the hadith of Ghadīr Khumm has long been at the center of the Sunni-Shiʻa polemic. While previous research primarily focused on analyzing the sanad (chain of transmission) and matan (text), contemporary Shiʻa scholarship has increasingly employed it as a tool to continuously reinforce the doctrine of imāmah and counter Sunni epistemic dominance. This study examines how the hadith of Ghadīr Khumm is utilized in Shiʻa academic discourse by exploring the extent to which the polemic surrounding this hadith has evolved beyond mere authentication and how it functions in response to Sunni historiography. The findings indicate that, although many Sunni sources acknowledge the authenticity of the hadith of Ghadīr Khumm, stark differences in interpretation have led Shiʻa scholars to continue engaging with this hadith academically. This ongoing engagement is driven by the perception that the dissemination of Sunni perspectives remains a dominant force that must be challenged. Recent trends reveal that academic studies are increasingly directed toward integrating hadith interpretation into civilizational narratives as a response to marginalization. However, despite appearing innovative, the underlying argumentative patterns largely follow established precedents. This study opens avenues for further research into how hadith texts hold strong foundational value, ensuring their continued role as primary references in asserting theological legitimacy and shaping the identity of religious sectarian communities within Islam.     Interaksi Sosial Umat Baha\u27i dalam Mempertahankan Identitas Budaya

    This article aims to explore the form of social integration of the Baha\u27i people in maintaining culture and its contribution to maintaining the cultural identity of religious communities in Kubu Raya, West Kalimantan. This research uses qualitative methods through a sociological-anthropological approach with the type of field study research. Data collection methods in the study using observation, interviews and documentation. Data analysis is done by reducing data, displaying data and drawing conclusions. The results of the study show that the social interaction of the Baha\u27i people in maintaining cultural identity is shown by the acceptance of the Baha\u27i people in the community. This is due to cultural integration sourced from Baha\u27i religious teachings such as unity and peace, cooperation and solidarity and gender equality. In addition, Baha\u27is play a role in actualizing their culture through joint prayer activities and education, so that the community and Baha\u27is can interact well in the space. Further studies are needed to look further into the role of Baha\u27is in human resource development in the community

    Dalam era globalisasi, pluralisme agama di Indonesia, negara dengan keberagaman budaya dan agama, menimbulkan tantangan dan peluang untuk membangun harmoni sosial dan keutuhan bangsa. Penelitian ini mengeksplorasi kontribusi pemikiran Mukti Ali terhadap pembaharuan studi perbandingan agama dan implikasinya pada stabilitas sosial dan pertahanan negara dalam konteks pluralisme agama kontemporer di Indonesia. Latar belakang masalah berkisar pada dinamika masyarakat pluralistik Indonesia, di mana keragaman agama, seringkali dihadapkan pada tantangan konflik dan ketidakstabilan sosial. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan kajian kepustakaan, menggali data dari buku, arsip, dokumen, dan jurnal yang relevan. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa pemikiran Mukti Ali, yang menekankan dialog dan pemahaman lintas agama, relevan dan penting dalam mempromosikan toleransi dan kerukunan antarumat beragama di Indonesia. Konsep pluralisme agama Mukti Ali tidak hanya berkontribusi pada pemahaman dan toleransi antarumat beragama tetapi juga memperkuat pertahanan nasional melalui promosi kerukunan dan toleransi. Pentingnya pendekatan pluralis dan dialogis dalam studi perbandingan agama sebagai alat vital dalam mempertahankan stabilitas sosial dan keharmonisan beragama di Indonesia
