Reassessing the Originality of Tarjumān al-Mustafīd: Dāūd al-Rūmī’s Contributions and the Scholarly Significance of the First Tafsīr in The Archipelago
Peter Riddell and Salman Harun have conducted studies on the originality of Tafsīr Tarjumān al-Mustafīd. However, their study was based on a limited sample (the 16th and 30th juz), which resulted in the omission of several significant aspects. This study seeks to broaden the scope of research by employing a more comprehensive methodological approach, specifically textual criticism and comparative analysis. Textual criticism is used to assess the authenticity of the text, identify its primary reference sources, and evaluate the interpolations found within the work. Additionally, this study employs comparative analysis by juxtaposing Tarjumān al-Mustafīd with notable classical commentaries, including al-Jalālain, al-Baiḍāwī, and al-Khāzin. Furthermore, an analysis of colophons and variations in writing style is conducted to elucidate the role of each contributor. This study presents three key findings. First, both Riddell and Harun concur that this work is not a translation of al-Baiḍāwī but instead of al-Jalālain. This study aligns with Harun’s assertion that Tarjumān al-Mustafīd is an orally transmitted translation of al-Jalālain, supplemented with quotations from al-Khāzin and additional interpolations, particularly in the 29th and 30th juz, which were primarily influenced by Dāūd al-Rūmī. Secondly, this study reveals that Dāūd al-Rūmī played a crucial role in the preservation and textual modifications of the work, despite its attribution to ʿAbd al-Raʾūf. Third, the scholarly significance of Tarjumān al-Mustafīd is demonstrated through its role as the first tafsīr in the archipelago to document diverse qirā’āt traditions, reflect the vernacularization of Malay culture, and serve as a vital Qur\u27ānic guide for the general Muslim populace in 17th-century Aceh
THE IMPACT OF TIKTOK SOCIAL MEDIA ON THE RELIGIOUSNESS OF HIGH SCHOOL TEENAGERS
TikTok has become one of the most popular digital platforms among teenagers, including secondary school students, due to its ease of access, content creation, and entertainment sharing features. However, uncontrolled intensity of TikTok use can affect various aspects of teenagers’ lives, including their religiosity. Based on this phenomenon, this study was conducted under the title “The Influence of TikTok Usage Intensity on the Religiosity of Secondary School Teenagers.” The objectives of this research are to: (1) describe the intensity of TikTok use among secondary school teenagers, (2) describe the level of religiosity among secondary school teenagers, and (3) determine the influence of TikTok usage intensity on the religiosity of secondary school teenagers. This study employed a descriptive quantitative approach. The population consisted of 284 eleventh-grade students, with a purposive sampling technique used to select 75 respondents. The research instrument consisted of a questionnaire with 15 items for the TikTok usage intensity variable and 27 items for the religiosity variable, supported by interview and documentation data. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics for quantitative data and descriptive analysis for qualitative data. The findings indicate a significant influence between TikTok usage intensity and the religiosity of secondary school teenagers. The coefficient of determination (R Square) was 0.212, indicating that TikTok usage intensity contributed 21.2% to religiosity, while the remaining 78.8% was influenced by other factors. Interviews with teachers and students reinforced the finding that TikTok content can have both positive and negative impacts on teenagers’ religious awareness and practices.

Media sosial TikTok menjadi salah satu platform digital yang sangat digemari oleh remaja, termasuk siswa SMA, karena kemudahannya dalam mengakses, membuat, dan membagikan konten hiburan. Namun, penggunaan TikTok yang tidak terkontrol dapat memengaruhi berbagai aspek kehidupan siswa, termasuk dalam hal perilaku keagamaan. Berdasarkan fenomena tersebut, penelitian ini dilakukan dengan judul “Pengaruh Penggunaan TikTok terhadap Perilaku Keagamaan Siswa SMAN 4 Pasuruan.” Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk: (1) mendeskripsikan penggunaan TikTok oleh siswa SMAN 4 Pasuruan, (2) mendeskripsikan perilaku keagamaan siswa SMAN 4 Pasuruan, dan (3) mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan TikTok terhadap perilaku keagamaan siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif deskriptif. Populasi dalam penelitian berjumlah 284 siswa kelas XI, dan pengambilan sampel menggunakan teknik purposive sampling sebanyak 75 siswa. Instrumen penelitian berupa angket dengan 15 butir untuk variabel penggunaan TikTok dan 27 butir untuk variabel perilaku keagamaan, serta didukung data wawancara dan dokumentasi. Metode analisis yang digunakan adalah analisis statistik deskriptif untuk penelitian yang bersifat kuantitatif dan analisis hipotesis deskriptif untuk penelitian yang bersifat kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan antara penggunaan TikTok dan perilaku keagamaan siswa SMAN 4 Pasuruan. Nilai koefisien determinasi (R Square) sebesar 0,212, yang berarti penggunaan TikTok memberikan kontribusi sebesar 21,2% terhadap perilaku keagamaan siswa, sedangkan sisanya 78,8% dipengaruhi oleh faktor lain. Hasil wawancara dengan guru dan siswa memperkuat temuan bahwa konten TikTok dapat memberikan dampak positif maupun negatif terhadap kesadaran dan praktik keberagamaan siswa.

Bridging Realities: Navigating Pop-Culture Media for Equitable Muslim Portrayals through the Prism of Moderation in Post-9/11
The influence of media on the formation of attitudes towards Muslims and Arabs in the period following the 9/11 attacks resulted in the propagation of harmful stereotypes and the increase in hate crimes targeting Muslims and Arabs during this time. This was also spread by the role of media, including popular culture media, in disseminating these negative narratives. Using a qualitative approach, this study aims to examine the media’s endeavours to depict Muslims in a positive portrayal and the dearth of meaningful sources documenting these empathetic endeavours through the prism of moderation, especially in post-9/11. This article argues that Evelyn Alsultany\u27s notion of Simplified Complex Representation serves as a gateway for the media\u27s effort to showcase Muslims and Arabs in a more nuanced way.. There are tons of instances that have been analysed from TV dramas, movies, and comics to demonstrate how the media shapes people’s perspectives of Muslims and Arabs. The article contends that media is not merely a mirror of societal views but a powerful agent capable of shaping and modifying perceptions
The Hermeneutics of Qur’anic Translation into Sign Language: A Study of Inclusive Pedagogy by the Qur\u27an Indonesia Project
This study investigates the implementation of inclusive Qur’anic pedagogy by the Qur\u27an Indonesia Project (QIP), with a focus on its Sign Language translation initiative and inclusive teaching methods. QIP, in collaboration with The Little Hijabi Home Schooling, has launched QuranIDprojectISYARAT, a digital-based endeavor aiming to improve access to the Qur’an and its translations, especially for individuals with disabilities. The QuranIDProjectISYARAT program, developed by QIP, targets the deaf community and provides Qur’anic education through platforms like Instagram and YouTube, utilizing audio, visuals, and Sign Language demonstrations. While QIP utilizes Arabic Sign Language for Qur’an translation, their interpretive process prioritizes understanding Qur’anic meanings over morphemes. This study delves into QIP\u27s Qur’an translation process and inclusive teaching practices, particularly focusing on the experiences of deaf or hearing-impaired individuals. By employing a netnography approach and conducting interviews with QIP\u27s YouTube viewers, the research investigates interactions within QIP\u27s online platforms and gathers insights into viewers\u27 perspectives. The findings suggest that QIP\u27s Qur’an translation incorporates Arabic Sign Language and volunteers\u27 interpretations or improvisations of verses, fostering comprehension and a sense of inclusion among learners in their online Qur’anic education initiatives
Reconception of Environmental Ethics in Islam: A Review of the Philosophy and Applications of Husein Nasr\u27s Thought
Wacana mengenai krisis dan etika lingkungan sangat penting untuk dikaji lebih mendalam. Hal ini karena kajian tersebut tidak pernah berhenti hanya sekedar konsep belaka dan selalu diperdebatkan. Tujuan tulisan ini ingin memahami gagasan Husein Nasr mengenai konsep etika lingkungan dalam bingkai ajaran tasawuf Islam (ekosufisme), aplikasi penerapan pemikiran Nasr, hingga gagasan filsafat etika lingkungan yang inklusif dan berkelanjutan. Metode yang digunakan dalam tulisan ini adalah pendekatan literatur berbasis deskriptif kualitatif berlandaskan teori atas pemikiran Husein Nasr mengenai Manusia, Tuhan, dan Alam. Adapun pengumpulan data dengan cara mengumpulkan beberapa teks-teks yang sesuai dengan topik yang dibahas berupa artikel dan buku dan dianalisis dengan teknik analisis keyword, abstrak, dan hasil atau kesimpulan pada sumber yang serupa. Hasil yang ditemukan 3 hal: Pertama, Husein Nasr menawarkan ajaran hubungan antara manusia dengan alam hablun min alam berupa ekosufime sebagai penghantar hubungan harmoni antara Tuhan, manusia, dan alam. Kedua, secara aplikatif, berupa integrasi antara rekonsepsi dan kesadaran manusia sebagai khalifah fil ardhi untuk menjaga bumi. Terakhir yaitu merekonsepsikan filsafat etika lingkungan yang bersifat inklusif dan berkelanjutan dengan melibatkan para stakeholder berpartisipasi untuk kedaulatan alam.

LINGUISTIC INTERPRETATION OF THE DIFFERENCE OF THE HARAKAT OF LETTERS IN THE RECITATION OF AL-QIRA\u27AT AL-\u27ASYR
In the science of Qiraat, the problem of vowel reading on letters and words in the Qur\u27an is still much that has not been revealed, both from the aspect of classical and modern scholarly opinions. This study aims to describe and introduce several rules about the process of occurrence of vowel a/i/u in certain words and verses, which are caused by the presence of letters, hamzah, sukun, and ishmam, including exploring new ways of analyzing the phonology of modern Arabic vowels based on standard generative theory. This research is literature research. Primary data sources were obtained by al-Našr fi al-Qirā\u27at al-Islāmiyyah, and several verses of the Qur\u27an for comparison. Secondary data sources are literature, both in the form of books, journals, and research results related to phonology. Data collection is carried out by documentation techniques, listening, and recording. Data analysis techniques use open coding, then analyzed descriptively using grounded theory. This study informs about the rule that the variety of vowel punctuation on some verbs in the Qur\u27an will change according to the readings attributed to the ten Qira\u27at. The Vowel sign emphasizes the reading of dammah/kasrah). The emphasis mark on nouns requires the insertion of dammah while on verbs and insertion of kasrah. The round distinguishing mark (sifr) is important in turning kasrah into dammah. Both Kasrah and dammah have the property of \u27Al, but some of them are distinguished by round marks on dammah and square marks on kasrah. The Vowel sign for classical scholars indicates that the kasrah from the letter "waw" in the verb "qul" moved to the letter "qaf" after hadzf dammah, then "waw" changed to "ya" to correspond to the kasrah in front of it. Modern linguists believe that the dammah of the letter "qaf" can be changed to Kasrah and then "waw" removed, so that the existence of the two kasrahs is merged and becomes a long shaddah. The differences and changes in vowels in phonetics cannot be separated from the debate that exists between classical and modern scholars. This indicates that the problem of qira\u27at is closely related to diacritical marks that are icons of producing sounds with various characters. This research has implications that having to study Qur\u27anic verses from a Vowel aspect will require us to see how scholars used to read so that the sounds produced are not only one variant but have a variety of very detailed and interesting reasons to be studied based on modern linguistic theory.

Dalam ilmu Qiraat, persoalan bacaan vokal pada huruf dan kata-kata dalam al-Qur’an masih banyak yang belum diungkap, baik dari aspek pendapat ulama klasik maupun modern. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan dan mengenalkan beberapa kaidah tentang proses terjadinya vokal a/i/u pada kata dan ayat tertentu, yang disebakan oleh adanya huruf, hamzah, sukun dan isymam, termasuk mengeksplorasi cara-cara baru dalam menganalisis fonologi vokal bahasa Arab modern berdasarkan teori generatif standar. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kepustakaan. Sumber data primer diperoleh al-Našr fi al-Qirā\u27at al-Islāmiyyah, dan beberapa ayat al-Qur’an sebagai bandingannya. Sumber data sekunder adalah literatur, baik berupa buku-buku, jurnal dan hasil-hasil penelitian yang berkaitan dengan fonologi. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik dokumentasi, simak dan catat. Teknik analisis data menggunakan pengkodean terbuka, lalu dianalisis secara deskriptif menggunakan grounded theory. Penelitian ini menginformasikan tentang kaidah bahwa ragam tanda baca vowel pada beberapa kata kerja dalam al-Qur’an akan berubah sesuai dengan bacaan yang dinisbatkan kepada sepuluh Qira’at. Tanda Vowel menekankan pada bacaan dammah/kasrah). Tanda penekanan pada kata benda mengharuskan penyisipan dammah sedangkan pada kata kerja dan penyisipan kasrah. Tanda pembeda bulat (sifr)penting dalam mengubah kasrah menjadi dammah. Baik Kasrah maupun dammah sama-sama memiliki sifat ‘Al, namun beberapa di antaranya dibedakan dengan tanda bulat pada dammah dan tanda persegi pada kasrah. Tanda Vowel bagi ulama klasik mengiformasikan bahwa kasrah dari huruf “waw” pada kata kerja “qul” berpindah ke huruf “qaf” setelah terjadi hadzf dammah, kemudian “waw” berubah menjadi “ya” agar sesuai dengan kasrah di depannya. Sedangkan bagi para linguis modern meyakini bahwa dammah dari huruf “qaf” dapat berubah menjadi Kasrah dan kemudian “waw” dihapus, sehingga keberadaan kedua kasrah tersebut digabung dan menjadi shaddah yang panjang. Perbedaan dan perubahan Vowel dalam ilmu fonetik tidak lepas dari perdebatan yang pajang antara ulama klasik dan modern. Hal ini mengindikasikan bahwa masalah qira’at sangat berkaitan dengan tanda diakritik yang menjadi icon penghasil bunyi dengan aksara yang beragam. Penelitian ini berimplikasi pada keharusan mempelajari ayat-ayat Al-Qur’an dari aspek Vowel akan mengharuskan kita untuk melihat kmbali seperti apa para ulama dulu membaca, sehingga bunyi-bunyi yang dihasilkan tidak hanya satu varian, namun memiliki ragam alasan yang sangat detail dan menarik untuk dipelajari berdasarkan teori linguistik modern.

A Review of Hadith Concerning the Characteristics of Ya’juj Ma\u27juj and its Relevance to Life in Contemporary Society: Tinjauan Hadits tentang Karakteristik Ya’juj Ma’juj dan Relevansinya terhadap Kehidupan Masyarakat Kontemporer
Gog and Magog are often the subject of speculation and give rise to various interpretations among scholars and the Muslim community. As a creature mentioned in the Qur\u27an and Hadith, the Gogg and Magog entity is necessary. However, an explanation of who they are, how they appear, and their traits that tend to be destructive still requires further research based on authentic Hadith. There are also quite a few who interpret Gogg and Magog as an attribute, not an attribute. Therefore, this research aims to determine the physical identification and characteristics of Gog and Magog through a review of the Hadith. The method used in this research is library research using a content analysis approach. The research results show that Gog and Magog have striking physical characteristics such as wide faces, small eyes, curly hair, and short bodies. Apart from that, they are also described as beings who are destructive, know no mercy, and cause great damage to the earth. This research emphasizes the importance of an in-depth understanding of related hadiths to provide further insight into the role and impact of Gog and Magog in the context of Islamic eschatology so that society can be more aware of social issues
Potret Pluralisme Beragama di Desa Wonoasri Kediri Perspektif Nurcholis Madjid
Abstact
Indonesia is a country rich with various religions, cultures, and tribes, where each community in Indonesia must embrace a religion. Therefore, Indonesia is a pluralistic country in terms of culture, ethnicity, and religion. In Indonesia itself there are not only major religions but also local religions that have been passed down from ancestors for generations. In this study, researchers focused on the interactions that exist in the community in the Portrait of Religious Pluralism from the perspective of Nurcholis Madjid. In conducting this research, the location of the researcher is in Wonoasri Village, Grogol District, Kediri Regency. Where in the village of Wonoasri itself there are Muslims, Christians, and Catholics who have been living side by side and getting along with each other. In this study, researchers focused on the understanding of religious pluralism from the perspective of Nurcholis Madjid in Wonoasri village. In the process of completing this research, researchers used qualitative methods to help the research. The results of this study were found in Wonoasri village, which has a very peaceful, harmonious, and tolerant population, be it Islam, Christianity, and Catholicism in Wonoasri village. These three existing religions coexist and socialize with each other. The people of Wonoasri village have very strong ties, which can work together to foster and instill the values of tolerance and inter-religious pluralism in Wonoasri village.

MODERASI BERAGAMA AULAWIYAH DALAM AL-QURAN: Sebuah Kerangka Hal-Hal Prioritas
Abstrack
Pembangunan moderasi beragama tetap terus dilakukan, sejumlah pemahaman tentang apa itu moderasi beragama juga terus diperluas. Oleh karenanya moderasi beragama ini bukan hanya terfokus kepada tasamuh (toleransi), tawazzun (seimbang) dan juga tawassuth (pertengahan). Akan tetapi ada juga ‘’aulawiyah’’ (mendahulukan yang perioritas). Dan sejauh pencarian penulis, belum banyak tulisan yang menmbaha tentang konsep ‘’aulawiyah’’ dalam moderasi beragama ini. Di sini penulis menggunakan metode penelitian kepustakaan ataupun literature yang mana dari berbagai referensi literature penulis bisa menyelesaikan konsep tersebut. Dan dalam al-Quran ternyata ada tentang konsep moderasi beragama ‘’aulawiyah’’ bahwasannya al-Quran memiliki konsep: (1)‘’aulawiyah fi ad-din’’,(2)‘’aulawiyah fi wathoni wa umumi, (3) ‘’aulawiyah fi akhirah ‘an ad-dunya, (4) ‘’aulawiyah fi taghayyiril ahkam.

Miskawayh (d. 1030) on Justice and The Limits of Law
This article explores the limitations of Islamic law within the broader intellectual tradition of Islam. While law is typically designed to enforce coercive justice, Miskawayh’s perspective attempts to integrate this conception through a reassessment of the concept of justice. Specifically, this article examines, first, the overarching view of Islam as a nomothetic religion; and second, the ethical concepts and vision of justice offered by Miskawayh. By contextualizing Miskawayh’s ideas within the broader cultural and intellectual traditions of Islam, this research reveals a contrasting view of legal mechanisms. For Miskawayh, the vision of justice is not necessarily derived from external mechanisms of divine revelation, but rather hinges on the internal mechanisms of the individual. Miskawayh emphasizes a reversal of mechanisms from external to internal by advocating for a greater role of ethical-philosophical thought in Islamic legal discourse. Miskawayh, like many Muslim philosophers, navigates the relationship between revealed law and reason in his conception of justice. He rejects the notion of inherent conflict, arguing that both reason and divine law originate from God
