Sile (Pencak Silat Nias) as a Negotiation of Religion and Culture between Traditional Societies, Islam, and Christianity in Ono Niha
Pencak Silat is no longer limited to martial arts but goes far beyond this. Suppose it is generally understood as a martial art commonly called Sile. In that case, it needs to be seen from the socio-theological praxis of the people of Moro’ö District, West Nias Regency, and the people of Tugala Oyo District, North Nias Regency, where they are Nias people in general who tend to believe traditionally based on customs, as well as Christian church congregations, including Muslims. This article delves into Nias’ traditional pencak silat in 2022-2023. The empirical problem in Christianity is that there is a tendency to label synchronicity that pencak silat as a traditional rite for primitive people, has always been associated with an attempt to display the dimension of “evil spirits” as opposed to the “good spirits” in the Christian faith with the modern eyes of urban people. Meanwhile, Muslims tend to be positioned as immigrants. This paper is in the social setting of North and West Nias as a research field, and it is carried out with empirical qualitative research with a socio-theological approach. Data were collected by observation, interview, and documentation. It was found that there is an increasing immersion in cultural arts expressed through pencak silat as a social space (medium) for people of different faiths and traditions. It was found that North and West Nias Sile displayed spatial negotiations between culture and religion
Telaah Hermeneutika Kritis terhadap Femisida dalam Perspektif Al-Qur\u27an serta Relevansinya terhadapa Pendidikan Agama Islam
Gender injustice that seems to be legitimized by normative texts is seriously challenged by problems of interpretation. This research is a library research and qualitative. The author focuses on Femicide in the Perspective of the Qur\u27an: A Critical Hermeneutic Analysis and its Relevance to Islamic Religious Education. Femicide is a criminal act of sadistic murder based on hatred of women committed by men. In the Qur\u27anic perspective, it is substantially described in four verses, namely QS. al-An\u27am 6: 137, QS. At-Takwir 81: 8, QS. An-Nahl 16: 59 and QS. This is a historical fact as documented in several Prophetic traditions. Femicide behavior in pre-Islamic times should be reinterpreted according to the times. The word can be understood to mean sadistic behavior such as being mutilated, abused, burned, crushed, and so on. Femicide is relevant to discuss because PAI plays an important role in shaping human values and attitudes. PAI has the potential to be an effective tool in instilling aspects of humanity, justice, and respect for human rights, including women\u27s rights
Maṭlab al-Ṭālibīn: A Milestone in the Development of Tafsīr Literature in Kashmir
This study examines Maṭlab al-Ṭālibīn fī Tafsīr Kalām Rab al-‘Ālamīn, a 16th-century tafsīr work by Ya‘qūb Ṣarfī, which is a significant milestone in the development of tafsīr literature in Kashmir. Despite its substantial influence on Kashmir’s intellectual history, Ṣarfī’s tafsīr has often been overlooked in academic research due to the poor quality of the manuscript and the limited availability of sources. This article adopts a qualitative approach to explore the unique structure of Ṣarfī’s tafsīr, which combines various disciplines such as tafsīr, ḥadīth, fiqh, kalām, and taṣawwuf, and examines how this work connects to the broader tradition of tafsīr in the Islamic world. Through an in-depth analysis of the text and relevant literature, the article demonstrates how Maṭlab al-Ṭālibīn highlights the crucial role of Kashmiri scholars in advancing tafsīr, while also enriching the intellectual discourse of 16th-century Islam. Although incomplete, covering only a small portion of the Qur’an, the work’s contribution is invaluable for understanding tafsīr in the Indian subcontinent, which at the time was influenced by major tafsīr works such as Tafsīr al-Qurtubī and al-Bayḍhāwī. The study also addresses the challenges faced in preserving the manuscript of Maṭlab al-Ṭālibīn, which currently exists in a very fragile condition. The article emphasizes the importance of transcription and conservation efforts to ensure that this work can continue to be studied and analyzed by future generations. Thus, this research not only contributes to the understanding of tafsīr in Kashmir but also broadens the scope of tafsīr studies within the larger Islamic intellectual tradition
The Transformation of Understanding Hadith in the Post-Multimedia Era: Balancing Technological Advancements with Tradition Preservation: Transformasi Pemahaman Hadis di Era Pasca-Multimedia: Menyeimbangkan Kemajuan Teknologi dengan Pelestarian Hadis
Technological advances in the post-multimedia era have brought about significant changes in various aspects of life, including in the understanding and dissemination of hadith. Multimedia technology provides faster and wider access to hadith literature, allowing Muslims to access authentic sources more easily. Nevertheless, this transformation also poses challenges in maintaining the authenticity and preservation of the tradition of hadith understanding that has developed over the centuries. This research aims to explore how the development of multimedia technology affects the transformation of people\u27s understanding of hadith and how it interacts with efforts to maintain the interpretive traditions inherited by classical scholars. Using a qualitative method with an interpretive-hermeneutic approach was adopted to help interpret the shifting understanding of hadith among the younger generation and religious communities. The results show that although technological advances have enriched access to hadith, there are concerns about misinterpretation due to the lack of control of authoritative scholars. However, technology also provides opportunities for Islamic scholars and educational institutions to adapt, utilizing multimedia as a means of da\u27wah as well as the preservation of tradition. Therefore, synergistic efforts between technological innovation and strengthening Islamic literacy are needed so that the understanding of hadith in the post-multimedia era remains authentic and relevant
Between Text and Social Media: Interpretation of Hadith Bid’ah in Salafi and Nahdlatul Ulama Discourse: Antara Teks dan Media Sosial: Interpretasi Hadits Bid\u27ah dalam Diskursus Salafi dan Nahdlatul Ulama
The concept of ikhtilāf al-ḥadīth, once understood as a substantive contradiction between hadiths, has shifted in meaning in the digital age. Today, contestation often arises not from textual conflict but from differing interpretations among religious groups. This study aims to explore the contestation surrounding hadiths on bid’ah (religious innovation) between the Salafi and Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) paradigms on social media. It addresses two key questions; first, how do Salafi and NU groups interpret bid’ah hadiths on social media; and second, what forms of contestation emerge between these groups? Employing a qualitative-descriptive method and purposive sampling for data collection, the study finds that the Salafi group tends to adopt a textualist approach, leading to partial and concise interpretations of bid’ah hadiths on social media. In contrast, the NU group applies a contextualist approach, producing broader and more comprehensive meanings. A clear instance of contestation is observed when the Salafi-affiliated YouTube channel @MajelisilmuTV posted a video about bid’ah, which was critically countered by NU-affiliated interpretations via an Instagram post by @Ajir_Ubaidillah. This interaction illustrates how social media has become a new arena for contemporary religious debates, reflecting a transformation in the dynamics of authority and authenticity in hadith interpretation within the digital public sphere
Development of the PAI Curriculum System through Integration of Riwāyah Aḥmad No. 8952: Pengembangan Sistem Kurikulum PAI melalui Integrasi Riwāyah Aḥmad No. 8952
In recent years, various moral issues such as bullying, individualism, and diminished social awareness among students have emerged as critical concerns in education. In response to this, it becomes imperative to examine the concept of akhlāq (moral character) within Islamic education, particularly through the integration of the Prophet’s hadith into the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) curriculum. This research posits two central questions: first, what is the meaning of riwāyah Aḥmad No. 8952, and second, how can the values encapsulated in this hadith be effectively implemented to optimize the function of the PAI curriculum? These questions are analyzed using a qualitative-descriptive methodology, employing a literature study approach that involves a comprehensive review, examination, and comparison of various hadiths and Islamic educational texts. The findings suggest that the conceptual emphasis on akhlāq, which underscores its central role as the primary mission of prophethood, should serve as the foundational framework for the PAI curriculum. Furthermore, the research identifies the application of a Deep Learning approach incorporating Mindful, Meaningful, and Joyful Learning strategies as a promising method for internalizing akhlāq values into students’ lives
Implementation of Hadith on the Influence of Parenting Style on Child Development : Implementasi Hadis tentang Pengaruh Gaya Parenting Orang Tua terhadap Perkembangan Anak
The parent\u27s role in the legal action of building children\u27s character is to encounter new situations along with modern times. Various new challenges are undeniable, such as social, cultural, and economic issues, and the increasingly massive development of digital technology. It should affect the parenting process, where parents are required to observe and control everything that their children do. This study was conducted to find out the hadith commentary on the concept of "parenting", by understanding how children learn and the role of parents in being responsible for their children\u27s education. Hadiths are relevant to parenting learning through two problems. First, what are the characteristics of educators from the perspective of hadith? Second, what are the methods taught by the Prophet in educating children? To answer the two problems, the author used a literature study based on the grounded theory of Saldaña and Anselm Strauss and made the concept of contemporary learning parenting a sensitizing concept. The results show that there are at least 12 hadiths that are relevant to the idea of parenting and produce four characteristics of educators that should be applied in the parenting process, as well as three methods that parents can use in the parenting process. It is important to support the success of every parent in educating, directing, and making children a person with positive character
Philosophical Posthumanism: An Ontological Assessment by Contemporary Muslim Scholars
This article examines the ontological foundations of philosophical posthumanism and critically examines its central claims through the lens of contemporary Muslim thought. Rooted in postmodern critiques of Enlightenment humanism, posthumanism challenges conventional ideas of human identity, agency, and moral status by emphasizing hybridity, technological mediation, and the interconnectedness of all forms of life—including animals, machines, and ecosystems. Through conceptual analysis and comparative hermeneutics, the study contrasts these claims with key Islamic metaphysical concepts such as fitrah (innate nature), ruh (soul), and khalifah (vicegerency). Prominent Muslim thinkers, including Seyyed Hossein Nasr, Taha Abdurrahman, Osman Bakar, and Fazlur Rahman, argue that posthumanist ontology undermines the sacred status of the human being, potentially leading to spiritual alienation by denying transcendence and moral responsibility. While acknowledging the ethical and ecological contributions of posthumanism, the paper contends that its core assumptions remain incompatible with the Islamic worldview, which affirms human dignity, metaphysical purpose, and divinely ordained responsibility within the cosmos
Study of Living Hadith on the Wiridan Tradition After Dawn Prayer Until Isyrâq in Banjar Society, Kalimantan Selatan
Various religious practices flourish in Indonesia, particularly amidst the development of Islamic studies discourse. In this context, the tradition of wiridan after the Fajr prayer until isyrâq (mid-morning) serves as tangible evidence of the enduring religious traditions within the Banjar community. Initial assumptions suggest a strong connection between this tradition and prophetic hadiths, as the dzikir and other practices performed until isyrâq are mentioned in the hadiths. Based on this reality, this study specifically examines the form, motivation, and significance of the implementation of this tradition. Through the living hadith approach, the research findings reveal that the transmission of hadiths concerning dzikir and utilizing the time for worship until isyrâq is received diversely, leading to the emergence of various forms and variations of worship. From the perspective of functional reception, the Banjar community perceives the virtues of wiridan after Fajr until isyrâq, which is tied to their understanding and interpretation of the term dzikir in the hadith texts as a form of exegetical reception. Furthermore, dzikir is interpreted in four categories: dzikir through tasbih, dzikir through Quranic recitation, dzikir through religious study sessions, and dzikir through remembrance of Allah. On the aesthetic side, the unique rhythm and manner of reciting wirid among the Banjar community are evident. Another significant aspect is the prominent role of religious leaders and pesantren within the community, where the tradition has grown stronger and is consciously upheld
The Ritual Agency and Living Tradition of Aḍ-Ḍamm ‘Alā Qalb al-Qur’ān in Local Islamic Communities of Banyumas
This ethnographic research investigates the living tradition and protective belief (tolak bala’) associated with the Aḍ-Ḍamm ‘Alā Qalb al-Qur’ān manuscripts preserved in two pesantren mosques in Banyumas, Central Java, i.e., Al-Djazuli Pliken and Pasulukan Sokaraja Lor. Local Muslim communities believe that possessing or storing these sacred manuscripts safeguards individuals, households, and places of worship from disasters, particularly fire. Over time, this belief has transformed from an individual conviction into an institutionalized communal practice, representing an intersection of Islamic textual reverence and localized ritual protection. Distinct from prior studies that focus primarily on textual content or codicological features, this study emphasizes the material, social, and symbolic dimensions of these manuscripts as active agents within local religious life. Drawing on in-depth interviews, participant observation, and narrative analysis, this research demonstrates how these manuscripts function simultaneously as sacred texts, material amulets, and markers of Islamic identity. Theoretically, this study contributes to debates on the materiality of sacred texts, folk belief systems, and the construction of ritual protection within localized Islamic traditions. The findings illustrate how Penginyongan Muslim communities in Banyumas embody and sustain a living tradition in which Islamic manuscripts transcend their textual function and are integrated into everyday practices of spiritual protection. This localized synthesis of belief, ritual, and manuscript materiality offers new insights into the interplay between Islam, culture, and protective traditions in Southeast Asian Muslim societies
