    No full text
This article explores poetry with ecofeminist traits in light of Gianni Vattimo’s thought, particularly his notion of "weak thought." It examines how ecofeminism, by challenging hegemonic metanarratives, shares with Vattimo’s hermeneutics an openness to multiple meanings and a resistance to power structures that subordinate both women and nature. Through the study of poems by various authors, four key interpellations of ecofeminist poetry are identified: political, ecological, poietic, and ethical-spiritual. The article highlights how poetry not only gives voice to silenced experiences but also serves as a tool for resistance and transformation, promoting an ethics of care and a reconfiguration of our relationship with nature

Boris Johnson’s Narrative of the 2016 Brexit Referendum: A Counter-discourse on the European Union

    No full text
This paper seeks to argue that Boris Johnson, one of the most prominent leaders in the Leave campaign during the 2016 Brexit referendum succeeded in persuading British voters to be on his side and choose to leave the European Union (EU). One of the arguments advanced by Johnson during the referendum campaign was that leaving the EU would allow Britain to regain its sovereignty as well as its role in the world. This study is focused on Johnson’s two speeches, one on the Brexit referendum and one on the Brexit result, given their significance in manipulating British public opinion in relation to their stance on the EU. The analysis is based on Obeng’s (1997) indirectness strategies and Fairclough’s and Fairclough’s (2012) practical reasoning framework. The central argument is that Johnson’s verbal strategies have been influential in the results of the referendum, putting an end to a long partnership between the EU and the UK. Such a split ushered in a new era for both partners in the aftermath of Brexit, putting EU’s integrity at stake, raising concern about more frictions within such an institution.

    No full text
The Eurovision Song Contest is organized annually by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). This article aims to analyze the changes made to the stage design in the specific context of the 2023 edition, organized by the BBC on behalf of the Ukrainian broadcaster Suspilne, due to the war in Ukraine. This particular configuration highlights the porosity between the EBU's corporate discourse on union and the entertainment program that symbolically creates competition between nations. The approach combines media strategies and television programs studies based on the work of François Jost and Jean-Claude Soulages in the field of information and communication sciences. The transfer of an institutional decision into entertainment is analyzed through the relationships between genres, enunciation, tones, and strategic uses of eight excerpts taken from the three shows that make up the 2023 edition of the contest. The article explores this question through the metaphor of the border. Its various visual and discursive manifestations deepen the meaning of unity in a strategy to reinforce the EBU's message in a sensitive context. The article thus provides further reflection on the discursive saturation of unity, expressed in a variety of content and conveyed through a polyphonic discourse. It therefore examines how entertainment negotiates external events to consolidate its functioning, its own language, and the promotion of the EBU as a media player.

    No full text

    No full text
Ozymandias is one of Percy Bysshe Shelley’s most frequently anthologized texts in English school curricula. Owing to its lexical and syntactic clarity in addressing the theme of vanitas vanitatum, the sonnet would appear to pose no significant challenges for translators. Yet, this essay, by examining a range of translations that have shaped the Italian reception of Shelley, reveals how translation choices and strategies have resulted in markedly different texts. These variations often reflect the prevailing theories of translation and dominant poetic norms of a given period, or are deeply influenced by the translator’s individual poetics—who is, in some cases, a poet themselves. The essay focuses on a comparative analysis of four published versions of the sonnet (Carlo Faccioli 1902, Adolfo De Bosis 1928, Giuseppe Conte 1989, and Francesco Rognoni 2018), along with previously unpublished translations possibly attributable to canonical Italian authors such as Leopardi and Ungaretti. The essay concludes with reflections on literary translation in the age of artificial intelligence

La riflessione neoplatonica sul dinamismo della natura. Damascio a confronto con Proclo

    No full text
The present study analyses Damascius’ naturalism in the light of the definition of the activities attributed to φύσις. This subject will be examined both by reference to Galen’s physiology and by comparison with Proclus’ naturalistic doctrine, which is characterised in a theological sense. Like Galen, Proclus and Damascius reject the autonomistic and mechanistic conception of nature, and to varying degrees they are critical of Aristotelian naturalism and psychology. Instead, the three thinkers considered propose an interpretation of natural phenomena that is firmly centred on the causal and finalist function of the principles governing the physical domain. In particular, it is emphasised that, in the case of the two Neoplatonists studied, this aetiological and teleological approach to physical research is transformed into a structured metaphysical theorisation of causality that transcends the empirical realm
