Across Continents and Generations: Fading Family History in Yaa Gyasi's Homegoing

This essay explores the transmission and disruption of family history among enslaved individuals and their descendants in Yaa Gyasi’s multigenerational novel Homegoing (2016). Focusing on Esi’s lineage, whose members are transported from their homeland to the United States through the transatlantic slave trade, this study examines how slavery and its legacies not only erase personal and familial history but also complicate the descendants’ attempts to reclaim a sense of identity and belonging, leaving many generations disconnected from their ancestral roots. This analysis first investigates the role of communicative memory in preserving family history for enslaved individuals and their descendants, despite the forced separations that impede the transmission of heritage from one generation to the next, thereby severing a crucial link to the family’s roots. The second part of the essay addresses how the devastating impact of slavery and its legacies further disrupt the transmission of family history, leaving many characters adrift. The analysis then considers how historical knowledge and symbolic acts, such as journeys to historically significant sites, serve as alternative means for reconnecting with lost heritage, offering some relief from the genealogical alienation imposed by slavery, even when family history remains irretrievable.

Bridging Social Impact and Lifecycle Approaches for Sustainable Urban Regeneration: An Exploratory Case Study in Italy

    No full text
This study explores how integrating social impact assessment (SIA) with lifecycle thinking can enhance urban regeneration outcomes by managing diverse stakeholder interests. A case study of a factory redevelopment in Tuscany, Italy, applies a novel analytical framework to map social, economic, and environmental value across project phases, examining patterns in outcome creation and stakeholder influence. The study advances impact assessment with an integrated framework capturing complex social value dynamics and enhancing social sustainability in urban interventions. The findings show that distinct value creation patterns and shifting stakeholder influence emerge across the project lifecycle. Proactive SIA application in early phases can reconcile divergent perspectives to maintain momentum. SIA integration with lifecycle assessment allows comprehensive understanding of value form interactions.  The findings provide a structured approach for practitioners to anticipate conflicts, optimise value creation, and embed social sustainability across regeneration lifecycles. Integrated SIA adoption can improve urban intervention design and delivery. This approach enables effective stakeholder engagement promoting equitable benefit distribution, mitigating adverse impacts, and enhancing community resilience and well-being

From Divergence to Convergence: Mapping the Hybrid Evolution of Smart, POP, and Dialogic Accounting through Bibliometric and Semantic Lenses

    No full text
This study examines the academic development and interconnections among Smart Accounting, POP Accounting, and Dialogic Accounting from 2010 to 2025. Despite each paradigm embracing digitization, stakeholder engagement, and sustainability from different perspectives, the literature remains fragmented across separate research streams. The paper argues that a systematic, integrated perspective is required to trace conceptual overlaps and identify research gaps among these emerging approaches. To this end, a bibliometric and semantic analysis was conducted on 222 peer-reviewed articles with the support of Biblioshiny and Leximancer. The articles were selected using a Boolean search strategy targeting digital, participatory, and sustainability-oriented accounting models. The analysis centered on publication trends, co-citation networks, keyword co-occurrence, thematic clusters, and semantic trajectories. The results illuminate a growing, yet theoretically and geographically uneven and fragmented, academic debate. Smart Accounting is driven by technological disruption, particularly through Artificial Intelligence (AI), blockchain, and cloud computing, which enable real-time automation and transparency. POP Accounting advances inclusive governance by integrating financial and ESG indicators through stakeholder-centric models. Dialogic Accounting emphasizes deliberative engagement but faces challenges in practical implementation. Although there is increasing conceptual overlap, mainly in applications within the public sector, significant gaps in theoretical convergence and geographic coverage persist, especially in emerging economies. Moreover, the decline in citation trends over the period suggests a thematic specialization and decentralization of scholarly attention. Ultimately, the research highlights the potential of hybrid accounting systems that integrate digital technologies, stakeholder engagement, and sustainability to support organizations in addressing the challenges of digital and sustainable transitions

Introduction: Professionals experience a feeling of inadequacy and guilt and to reduce stress they avoid emotional involvement or avoid requests for help. The Feldenkrais Method®, a relaxation and awareness technique, can help them promote coping and resilience strategies. Methods: The study, conducted from 2020 to 2023 with the aim of measuring stress and describing the impact of training on improving its management, analyzed the impact at the end of the course and at 6 months. Results: There were 164 participants in 13 editions. The pre-post comparison revealed a positive impact on the perception of stress, with a significant reduction. The feeling of control over events, the emotion of anger and the sense of being overwhelmed appear to have been reduced. A greater awareness of one's somatic response mechanisms to stress emerges and the acquisition of new strategies. Discussion: Sharing reflections on the needs and critical issues of working situations has highlighted how an increase in self-awareness and a more attentive listening to one's own bodily signals can enhance the ability to modulate one's internal states. The need for stress prevention and management interventions has been recurrent. The anonymity of the questionnaires did not allow us to investigate correlations with the personal data.

This essay offers a reconstruction of Gianni Vattimo’s philosophical trajectory, from his early readings of Heidegger and Nietzsche to his elaboration of the “weak thought” and its ethical, political, and theological developments. The article highlights how Vattimo reinterprets hermeneutics as a critical ontology of finitude, resisting metaphysical foundations and embracing secularization as kenosis. The text culminates in Vattimo’s proposal of a “hermeneutic communism,” where interpretation becomes a non-violent revolutionary praxis in defense of the weak. Far from being inconclusive, his thought remains radically open – a legacy that challenges philosophy to engage history and transform the world through remembrance and charity
