Leveraging selected Local Wisdom Species in developing peatland restoration in South Sumatra, Indonesia
This paper examines applying Local Wisdom Species (LWS), namely Purun (Eleocharis dulcis Hensch); Sago (Metroxylon sago Rottb); Gelam (Melaleuca cajuputi Powell) and Honeybee, and Gaharu or Agarwood (Aquilaria malaccensis Lamk), to involve rural communities in peatland restoration. If LWS disappear due to pressure from industrial plantations, rural communities will be controlled by the international trade system, which threatens their rural lifestyles, and they will be pushed out of the peatlands where they have lived for hundreds of years. This research aimed to reveal selected LWS in developing peatland restoration. This study applied field surveys, questionnaires and focus group discussions. Purposive sampling was used to get the data, collected, processed, and analysed. For rural communities, the LWS was developed for economic, technical, social, and environmental reasons. If the government can help rural communities to develop the LWS, then it is likely that rural communities will benefit from better management of peatland restoration. It requires collaborative efforts between rural communities, researchers, and policymakers to bridge traditional knowledge and modern science, encouraging a more comprehensive approach to addressing global challenges. This finding is very useful in participating rural community-based peatlands restoration using four approaches, namely decentralization, conservation, protection and optimization. With these four approaches, it is possible for this research finding to be implemented in the field
INTRODUCTION: The advent of Large Language Models in 2022 is requiring a reconsideration of the contents to be included in Artificial Intelligence (AI) training for healthcare personnel.
OBJECTIVES: A review of the literature published since the launch of ChatGPT has been performed, to identify which contents are suggested for inclusion in AI training for healthcare personnel.
METHODS: the review has been conducted according to the PRISMA-ScR extension to the PRISMA statement. Only items containing primary data have been included, thus excluding literature reviews.
RESULTS: 10101 items have been identified, of which 21 have been selected for review. These include original articles, letters, commentaries, opinion papers, editorials, interviews.
DISCUSSION: The items extracted from the literature address almost exclusively medical training. The analysis failed to identify methodologically robust studies on the contents to be included in AI training for healthcare personnel. There is however consensus on the fact that content on the broader technical, application, ethics, and regulatory aspects should take priority over direct operativity on informatics tools.INTRODUZIONE: L’avvento dei Large Language Models nel 2022 richiede una riconsiderazione dei contenuti da includere nella formazione all’intelligenza artificiale (AI) del personale medico-sanitario.
Questi comprendono articoli originali, lettere, commenti, articoli d’opinione, editoriali, interviste.
Urban food governance in times of crises. Insights from Toronto
This paper explores how phases of crisis and post-crisis affect urban food movements and their governance arrangements. Through the analysis of the Toronto food movement trajectory, this paper shows the effects of disruptive times, by analyzing the socio-political tensions that crises trigger. Doing so, the paper demonstrates how, while socio-economic instabilities, health emergencies, political shifts and similar crisis-factors, destabilize urban food movements, crises can also be breeding ground for social and governance innovations to emerge. Thus, when strategically navigated, crisis-junctures can help to open up new spaces of action and to reposition the role of food in the urban agenda.
Greening Cities by Growing Food. A Political Ecology Analysis of Urban Agriculture in the Americas, Colleen Hammelman
Il testo “Greening Cities by Growing Food.
The article explores the early years of Patty Pravo's career by focusing on the relationship between voice, body, performance and the construction of artistic identity. Grounded in the field of Italian popular music studies and inspired by the work of semiotician Luca Marconi, the essay aims to fill a gap in Italian musicological literature, which has traditionally been oriented toward singer-songwriters and pays little attention to the role of female performers.
In the context of the Italian beat and so-called “musica nostra” of the mid-1960s, Pravo emerges as an emblematic figure of a new youth, embodying models of transgression, emancipation and modernity. Through the analysis of songs such as Ragazzo triste, Se perdo te and La bambola, the article investigates the strategies through which the singer delineates her vocal identity, and reflects on the relationship between gender, the body and the construction of authenticity, which also concerns - in our culture - the recognition of aesthetic value.L’articolo esplora i primi anni di carriera di Patty Pravo concentrandosi sulla relazione tra voce, corpo, performance e costruzione dell’identità artistica.
Videomemes musicales y conversaciones digitales
This study analyzes musical videomemes as key artifacts of participatory digital culture. It investigates the motivations of prosumers who remix audiovisual materials and join ongoing memetic conversations, as well as the dynamics through which these digital dialogues unfold. Using digital ethnography, semiotic analysis, and interviews with creators, the research examines videomemes distributed on YouTube between 2009 and 2018. Findings reveal that prosumers are driven by humor, creative recycling, and the desire to insert local popular music into global digital flows. Memetic conversations are shaped by puncta—gestural or audiovisual incongruities—that trigger creativity, foster dialogical exchange, and reconfigure hierarchies between “major” and “minor” texts. The study concludes that videomemes enable users to transform consumption into active participation, negotiating cultural identities and gaining agency in digital media ecologies.
The article focuses on the function of ‘mimesis’ in Ernesto De Martino’s thought. The author pays special attention to techniques of reintegration of the ‘crisis of presence’ which seems to esthetically reproduce some features of crisis herself. According to De Martino the performative aspects that structures ritual imitation are intertwined with the psychological and symbolic function played by iteration. Although scholars have often pointed out the conservative side of this connection, the article tries to highlight the cultural creativity it implies instead. By commenting selected pages, we try to clarify the Demartinian idea of mimetic practices in dialogue with other, similar but different ones, namely mimicry, copy and fiction. The article focuses on the function of ‘mimesis’ in Ernesto De Martino’s thought. Translating “The End of the World” Ludically: From Playing Sudoku to Playing Gossip
Based on the author’s experiences of translating Ernesto de Martino’s work, this article will discuss some of the challenges and risks of this endeavor, with a specific focus on her work translating La fine del mondo [The End of the World]. Above and beyond the general problems of translating de Martino, which the author has treated elsewhere (Zinn 2015), La fine del mondo poses a number of particular difficulties: among these, the article considers the nature of the book as an edited, posthumous volume; the heterogenous languages and styles it incorporates; and the immense challenge of the philosophical language employed. To address these, the author offers insights into her translation atelier. From her considerations regarding the process of translating de Martino, the author then moves to a broader reflection on how The End of the World may or may not be received internationally: to what extent does de Martino risk getting caught in an erudite version of the children’s gossip game, in which passing the message from one player to the next leads to serious distortion when the last player says what they’ve heard? Will a de Martino that circulates only based on knowledge of the translation(s) produce visions of his scholarship that are unrecognizable or unpalatable to Italian-speaking scholars? The author concludes by inviting us to play with AI translation, assessing the potential of these technologies as ludic partners.Based on the author’s experiences of translating Ernesto de Martino’s work, this article will discuss some of the challenges and risks of this endeavor, with a specific focus on her work translating La fine del mondo [The End of the World].
