Coinage Metal-Catalyzed Divergent Heterocyclizations of Underexplored N‑Propargyl Hydrazides

    No full text
Herein, we disclose metal-catalyzed tunable annulations of uncharted alkyne-tethered hydrazides for the divergent preparation of diazacyclic frameworks. Cationic gold facilitates the O-cyclization, providing valuable [1,3,4]oxadiazine scaffolds with total selectivity, whereas silver catalysis promotes controlled N-cyclization to access N-acyl pyrazoles. Furthermore, density-functional-theory-based theoretical investigations support two different pathways (ionic versus radical) operating in the catalytic heterocyclization reaction of the same N-propargyl hydrazide substrateThis work was supported by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/ 501100011033/FEDER (Project PID2021-122183NB-C21), Comunidad de Madrid (Projects P2022/BMD-7236 and IND2023/BMD-27036), and JSPS (23K06031). Collective Sex as a Collective Text: Liberté by Albert Serra Through the Optics of Roland Barthes

    No full text
This article examines Albert Serra’s Liberté (Serra in Liberté. France, Spain, Portugal. Idéale Audience / Andergraun Films / Lupa Film / Rosa Filmes.1.85:1, 132 min, 2019)—both the film and the video art installation, first exhibited the same year at the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid, under the title Personalien—alongside Roland Barthes’s reading of texts by the Marquis de Sade, proposing a conceptual juxtaposition between Barthes’s approach and the aesthetic and rhetorical dimensions of Serra’s work. Barthes advocates for a purely formal interpretation of Sade, privileging structure over narrative or moral positioning, and engaging with such elements as the perpetual construction of libertine language, the defence of impossibilia, and humour, among others. The composition and fragmented discourse of Liberté resonate with this framework, revealing a cinematic logic that resists conventional storytelling and undermines superficial understandings of artistic and sexual freedom. At the same time, the article highlights how Serra’s work, operating on the threshold between cinema and video art, incorporates performative elements that intensify the viewer’s hyper-awareness of their position in relation to the screen. By intertwining formal optics with a visual and rhetorical analysis of the film, this study unpacks a conceptually unstable and ambiguous artwork—at once serious and playful, abstract and corporeal, present and vanishin

    Lauren Gunderson (b.1982)

This essay situates American playwright Lauren Gunderson (b.1982) in the present theatrical scenario. Three times the most produced playwrights in the US (in seasons 2017–2018, 2019–2020, and 2022–2023), Gunderson provides guidelines to understand her work: from her writing of lighter pieces and the more politically committed ones to her revision of classic texts and her original historical dramas. Gunderson presents herself as a feminist playwright who relocates women in their place in history while writing plays for both men and women. This essay also discusses Gunderson’s role as a drama and theatre theorist by paying close attention to her 2015 speech, “Survival of the Storied: Why Science Needs Art and Art Needs Science.” Here, Gunderson argues the need for and value of featuring the stories of women scientists on the stage and reminds us of the inherent power of good plays to move audiences into action in order to make a better world—a common goal shared by Science and Ar

    No full text
On the one hand, public procurement rules ensure competition between economic operators and the absence of distortions in the functioning of the common market resulting from the procurement of goods and services by contracting authorities. On the other hand, budgetary discipline is aimed at monitoring public finance seeking to avoid excessive deficit in Member States. Although these goals may seem different, an analysis of these provisions shows clear convergence between them. This study examines the similarities and differences between the two sets of rules, their crosslinks and the consequences following their implementation. In particular, it focuses on the impact of these rules on the public sector and the underlying restructuring process that is taking place through the development of functional legal concept

Sustainable investing among young generations: balancing ideals and financial realities

    No full text
This study examines the attitudes and behaviors of young investors toward sustainable finance, focusing on the gap between awareness and actionable investment choices. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, the research combines survey data capturing young investors' attitudes and financial portfolio analyses from a European institution to explore behavioral patterns and preferences in sustainable finance. The findings reveal a significant discrepancy: while environmental awareness and knowledge of sustainable finance are high, these factors do not necessarily translate into sustainable investment preferences. Key barriers include risk aversion, perceived high costs, and limited availability of attractive ESG investment options. The study highlights the need for targeted educational programs and policy interventions to bridge the gap between ideals and actions. Limitations include a small sample size and reliance on self-reported data, which future research should address. These findings contribute to the growing literature on sustainable investing and offer actionable insights for financial institutions and policymaker
