Improving the Quality of Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) For Sustainable Growth and Development of Nigeria
This study was undertaken towards improving the quality of Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) at the university level for the sustainable growth and development of Nigeria. Two research questions guided the study, and two null hypotheses were tested. The design of the study was a descriptive survey with a population of 116 respondents. These TVET lecturers were drawn from five universities in the South-South region of Nigeria. The entire population was used for the study. To collect pertinent data for the study, the researcher developed a 20-item questionnaire. Face and content validity of the questionnaire was determined by three experts. In order to establish the reliability of the instrument, Cronbach Alpha was used, which gave a reliability coefficient of 0.86. Mean was used to analyze the data relating to the research questions while Pearson product moment correlation coefficient was used to test the null hypotheses. The study found that the quality of TVET at the university level can be improved, for the sustainable growth and development of Nigeria, through professional manpower and the provision of efficient facilities and equipment. Also, the study findings indicated a significant relationship between the quality improvement of TVET and the sustainable growth and development of Nigeria. It was recommended that TVET providers, policymakers, stakeholders, and governments in Nigeria should ensure ‘Education for Sustainable Development’ is fully integrated into the TVET program to ease the national development of the Nigerian economy
The Extent of Depression Symptoms among Learning Disabled Students from their Teachers' Perspectives
The current study aimed to identify the extent of the prevalence of depression symptoms among students with learning difficulties from their teachers' points of view in Jerash Governorate. To achieve the objectives of the study, questionnaires were distributed to the teachers of a sample of (72) male and female students with learning difficulties in the third and fourth grades enrolled in resource rooms. The members of the study sample were chosen from 6 schools: (3 boys’ schools and 3 girls’ schools) during the second semester of the academic year 2016-2017. After conducting the statistical analysis, it was evident that the level of depression among students with learning disabilities was average, and that there were no statistically significant differences at statistical significance (α≤0.05) in the level of depression among the students with learning difficulties depending on the variables of grade and gender. Recommendations are made to provide humanitarian initiatives aimed at reducing depression among students with learning disabilities. Additionally, provision should be made to prepare the staff of educational institutions to deal with students with learning disabilities
Developing a Values Teaching Education Program for Preservice Teachers and Evaluating its Effectiveness
The aim of this project was to develop an 8-week values education program and evaluate how well it raises preservice teachers’ awareness of values education. This was an experimental and qualitative study conducted in April - May 2019 in eight 70-minute lectures at the Faculty of Education of Manisa Celal Bayar University. An 8-week values education program was developed, then, its effectiveness was evaluated using an experimental pretest-posttest control group design. The sample consisted of 47 students (35 females, 12 males) randomly assigned to two groups: Data were collected using a demographic characteristics form and the Schwartz Value Survey, which consists of 56 values. The values education program was based on eight values derived from the Schwartz Value Survey. A qualitative research method was also used. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews conducted by the researchers. Research results showed that The Values Teaching Educational Program-developed by researchers- had a positive effect on values such as responsibility, social justice, modesty, open-mindedness, protecting environment, honesty, and helpfulness. But it was not found statistically significant difference between control group and experimental group over “successful” value. The qualitative results also show that the values education program met participants’ expectations and improved their perceptions and awareness of values and their motivation to put them in practice. Lastly, the values education program helped the experimental participants develop positive views of the program itself and its content, material, activities, duration and the group leader
The Impact of Oil Price Shocks on Macroeconomic Activity: Searching Evidence from Oil Exporting and Importing Countries using Unstructured Vector Autoregressive (VAR) Model
In the new global economy, oil price shocks have become a central issue for many economists. Very sharp oil price increases cause a slowdown in economic growth. However, it can be argued that, various countries tend to respond to oil price shock differently, especially on whether they are importers or exporters of oil. In this study, an unstructured VAR model is considered to examine the effects of positive oil price shocks on five macroeconomic variables on two oil-importing and two oil-exporting countries. Denmark and Norway are used to represent oil-exporting countries, while Japan and Belgium stand for oil importing countries. The general result found is that oil-exporting countries tend to benefit from positive oil price shocks, with stock market and GDP consistently rising with every shock. However, it was further found that the rise tends to be accompanied by mild inflation and increasing interest rate for the concerned countries. On the other hand, it was found that oil-importing countries are either not affected by oil price shocks or lose out, as GDP and stock market show negative responses to oil price shock for the concerned countries. These Results from the VAR estimate were statistically significant
Effectiveness of the Reinforcement Parent Education Program Designed for Parents of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder on Supporting Positive Behaviours
This study aims to examine the effect of the Effective Reinforcement Use Parent Education Program, which was developed for parents with children with autism spectrum disorder. The program was based on scientific-based practices and developed to ensure that children exhibit positive behaviors, increase and generalize these behaviors. The exploratory sequential mixed method, which is one of the mixed methods, was used. The study first started with a qualitative method. After taking the opinions of the participants, the data were analyzed and then the quantitative phase started. In the qualitative phase, interviews were conducted with 10 parents using the semi-structured interview form. In the quantitative phase of the study, an experimental design with a pre-test post-test control group was adopted. The sample of the quantitative phase consists of 24 parents with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Research data were analyzed in two stages. Descriptive analysis was used for the analysis of qualitative data. To determine the effectiveness of the Effective Reinforcement Use Parent Education Program developed to increase the positive behavior of students with ASD, the achievement test developed within the scope of the research was applied to the experimental and control groups as pretest and post-test. Considering the sample size and normality distribution test results, the Mann-Whitney U test and Wilcoxon test conducted to test the significance between the pre-test and post-test scores. In the light of the findings and effect size analysis, the program may be regarded as an effective parent education program
The Effectiveness of Applying Realistic Mathematics Education Approach in Teaching Statistics in Grade 7 to Students' Mathematical Skills
The research was carried out to verify the effectiveness of applying Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) on the development of skills required by students in statistical content in grade 7. For achieving research objectives, the pedagogical experiment was conducted in the form of intrinsic legalization for forty-eight 7th-grade students at Tang Phu Nhan B Junior School, District 9, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Accordingly, data on pre-test results, study sheets, post-test, and student learning performance were collected and analyzed qualitatively. The results were assessed based on the criteria corresponding to the required skills for the statistical content, including the criteria for data collection, classification, and representation according to the given criteria for the skill, data collection, and organization capabilities; simple problem formation and problem-solving criteria arise from the existing statistical figures and charts for data analysis and processing skills. The primary mathematical statistics method was used to evaluate the achievement level of students for each criterion. Thereby, the experimental results showed that applying the RME approach in teaching statistical content positively impacted the development of some skills that students needed to achieve. Also, a number of guidelines were provided to guide the enhancement of RME activities
Determining Audit Quality in the Accounting Profession with Audit Ethics as a Moderating Variable
Obtaining information about a company’s financial statements has become increasingly important. Thus, highly skilled and expert public accountants are required who can execute their tasks following ethical standards. This study investigates the effects of audit professional skepticism and auditor expertise and integrity on audit quality in the accounting profession, with auditor ethics as the moderating variable. The study sample consisted of 65 auditors working in 14 public accounting firms in Surabaya, Indonesia. Data were collected through questionnaires and then analyzed using the SmartPLS approach. Results indicated that audit professional skepticism and auditor expertise and integrity positively influence audit quality. On one hand, auditor expertise, which is moderated by auditor ethics, positively influences audit quality. On the other hand, audit professional skepticism and integrity, which are moderated by auditor ethics, do not influence audit quality. The findings suggest that auditors must further improve their compliance with ethical standards to strengthen their integrity, which in turn, enables them to produce good audit quality. Furthermore, auditors must always strive to increase their professional skepticism and expertise
Causal Relationships Among Tourism, International Trade, Pollution, and Economic Growth: Evidence from Central Asian Countries
This study investigates the cointegration and causality among environmental quality (CO2 emissions), international trade, economic growth, and tourism of five Central Asian Republic States (CARS-5), namely Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, and Uzbekistan, for 1992– 2018. To this end, we employed the Johansen cointegration approach, modified Wald tests, and the Toda & Yamamoto (1995) approach. The empirical results showed that the variables were cointegrated in the long run, and the Granger causality test results revealed the existence of causality in the series. Furthermore, the empirical results validated both the export-led and the tourism-led growth hypotheses for Tajikistan and Kazakhstan. These findings suggest that the CARS-5 should develop appropriate and prudent public policies to stimulate sustainable economic development
Do Board Characteristics Impact Green Banking Disclosure? Empirical Evidence from Indonesia
In performing their role in implementing the United Nations Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs), banks have started to run their businesses in a more environmentally friendly manner through green banking activities. implementing green banking activities requires good corporate governance. This study, therefore, examines the effects of 1) board size, 2) an independent board of commissioners, and 3) institutional ownership on the disclosure of green banking in sharia banks in Indonesia. This research is quantitative. The sample includes all the 13 commercial sharia banks in Indonesia. The data analysis technique used a multiple linear regression test. The findings indicate that board size positively affects green banking disclosure, while institutional ownership and an independent board of commissioners do not appear to influence green banking disclosure at all. The control variable that affects the disclosure of green banking the most is company size. Therefore, this study recommends that the sharia banking sector increase green banking disclosures for stakeholders because such disclosure by companies desiring to express banking concerns about social and environmental aspects can increase corporate value
The Effect of CSR Disclosure on Firm Value with Profitability and Leverage as Moderators
This study determines the effect of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) disclosure on firm value. The population of this study is composed of mining companies listed on the Indonesian Stock Exchange from 2016 to 2018. The study used a purposive sampling technique and obtained a sample of 66 companies. Applying moderated regression analysis, the results indicate a positive effect of CSR disclosure on firm value. Furthermore, profitability strengthens this effect on firm value, whereas leverage weakens it. CSR disclosure and its interaction with leverage reveal an influence on firm value. The lower the level of the leverage ratio of a company, the higher the CSR disclosure conducted by it, which subsequently increases firm value. This study contributes to business professionals by confirming that firm value will rise with increased CSR disclosure in financial reports
