Optimizing Crude Oil Sales from Strategic Petroleum Reserves in Asia
A joint oil stockpiling facility no more than 3 days sailing from its key markets would be ideally positioned as a Strategic Petroleum Reserve for net importing nations during times of crisis and tight markets. At other times, the facility would have additional value in its capacity to provide an excellent central location for the sale of spot crude for a crude oil marketing company or major producing company. At the same time, the sale of crude oil options to Asian markets can provide a secure and reliable source of supply during times of volatility and enhance a major producing company’s market share in the region. Spot crude oil and product sales from a joint oil stockpiling facility would be able reach tight markets in a few days, and in fact would be available for pick-up in variable quantities that are appropriate for specific market disruptions. As a result, the sale of spot crude oil spread options would have the potential to address sporadic and unanticipated increases in demand without adding undue downward pressure to regional oil prices. The case study develops a model to price the sale of crude oil spread options to China from a hypothetical joint oil stockpiling facility in Northeast Asia over a 15-year period from 2016 to 2030
English Language Instructions and Walkability Constraints among Adult Residents in Southwest, Nigeria
The study examined the nexus between English language instructions and walkability constraints among adult residents in Southwest, Nigeria. In the light of this, two specific objectives and research questions were achieved and answered respectively. The study was premised on Social Cognitive Theory (SCT) as a relevant theoretical framework. With respect to methodology, descriptive survey research design was embraced and simple random sampling techniques were used to take a sample of three hundred and eighty-four (384) participants from the target population within the studied areas. In addition, a self-designed structured research instrument was administered on these respondents with the aid of twelve (12) trained research assistants and the obtained data was analyzed by employing descriptive statistical tool, that is, simple percentage. The empirical findings revealed that most adults barely comprehend English language instructions on road/community routes in southwest Nigeria, and as a result of this, they feel intellectually disturbed. It was recommended that well-trained English language instructors should be integrated into environmental planning team of each State Government within Southwest Nigeria to curb the rise of walkability constraints among adults
Aspects Hindering the Development and Survival of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises in Pakistan: Stability Perspective
This article intends to explore aspects that are hindering the development and survival of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Pakistan. A survey was developed to collect statistics from 226 SME owners and staff in selected Punjab Provinces in Pakistan. Some statistical approaches accompanied the results of the survey to examine the elements hindering the development of SMEs in Pakistan. The results of the research indicate that the expected constraints, including lack of management knowledge, corruption, decaying infrastructure, absence of financial funds, and inadequate earnings are hindering SME development and survival in Pakistan. Considering the elements hindering the development will help legislators, federal and local concerns, NGOs, shareholders, policymakers, and others to create well-structured policies and plans that will aggressively promote the efficiency and stability of SMEs in Pakistan. The significance of this research derives from the reality that few studies have been conducted about the development and survival of SMEs in Pakistan with a stability perspective
Joint Family or Nuclear Family: The Youth’s Perspective
To identify the youth’s perspective regarding joint and nuclear family systems and the factors contributing to it. A cross-sectional study conducted in 2020 in Karachi. The target population was between 18 and 45 years of age with a sample size of 523. An online questionnaire was circulated through convenience sampling technique. Data was imported and analyzed in SPSS Version 20. The sample population included 523 participants with n=441(84.3%) between 18-24 years and a female predominance n=333(63.7%). N= 454 (86.8%) participants were single. More than half n=298(57%) live in a nuclear family system, whereas, 194(37.1%) live in a joint family system. Majority n=321 (61.3%) believed there is greater expectation to agree with the opinion of the head of the family in a joint family system and lesser freedom. Mixed views were reflected regarding an increased emotional and financial stability in a joint family system with 42.8% and 59.5%, respectively. The global drift from joint family systems towards nuclear family systems was also evident in our study. The younger generation prefers nuclear family systems as they feel it respects their privacy and freedom. Moreover, it also dissociates them from any family disputes and undue stress associated with it
Characterisation of Phenolic Compounds, Sterols and Geographical Fingerprint of Çekişte Extra-Virgin Olive Oils According to their Geographical Locations by Using LC IMS QTOF Mass Spectrometry
In this context, aim of this study is to determine the effect of Çekişte olive oils in different locations and show differences on geographical locations while taking geographical indication label. Çekişte olive oil variety which cultivated in six different locations (Birgi, Bademli, Beyazit, Yeniceköy, Zeytinlik, Uzumlu) were evaluated the effects of geographical locations on the chemical characterization of in the southwest of Turkey. The agricultural ecological map of each location was created using GIS. Olive oil samples were analyzed fatty acid, sterol and phenolic. Moreover, LC IMS Qtof spectrometer and Progenesis QI software were used to determine the geographical fingerprints of olive oil samples in different locations. Results showed that oil qualities of some locations differ significantly depending on olive growing area (p <0.05), some of them not. The Principal Component Analysis of the different locations analyzed revealed that "geographical location" factor significantly affects the olive oil quality
Business School Student Satisfaction with Emergency Remote Teaching
This study analyzes Peruvian Business School students’ experiences with emergency remote teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic. We used the critical incident technique (CIT) to explore the salient factors on which students based their satisfaction and dissatisfaction with their online education. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews conducted with 27 MBA students. The results comprised 56 incidents – 25 satisfactory and 31 unsatisfactory – in the two major categories of Virtuality and the Teaching-Learning Process. This study contributes a new perspective on online education through the analysis, conducted through CIT, of the Peruvian Business School students’ experiences with online education during the COVID-19 pandemic. Some of the most relevant positive incidents included the recording of classes to review them later; the existence of Learning Management Systems to support the development of online materials; the possibility of entering online classes instead of in-person classes, as well as the flexibility with regard to location. The study allows us to determine several critical aspects in the two identified categories that should be considered when improving future online or hybrid programs
Tree Diversity, Biomass and Carbon Stock in Quartz Mined Area of Bilikal Hillock, hunasaekatte, Bhadravathi, Karnataka, South India
To learn about the abandoned mined area tree diversity, aboveground biomass and carbon stock a study was conducted in quartz mined Bilikal hillock area which is geographically adjacent to Umbalebylu 8 km to Bhadra wildlife sanctuary and 10 km of Kuvempu University. In the present study 0.14ha (350 m×4m) transect, we recorded 1527 individuals comprising 22 families among them Papilionaceae with 6 genera and 7 species, Combretaceae with 2 genera and 4 species followed by Rubiaceae with 3 genera and 3 species and Apocynaceae with 2 genera and 3 species. Based on girth class assessment nearly 1564 individuals comprising 1-10 cm had 559 individuals, the basal area was more within the girth class of 40-50 cm. But aboveground biomass and carbon stock were highest within the girth class of 20-30 cm. varying with species structure and girth class were a disturbed forest patch, the species composition needs management and restoration to retain the biodiversity intact to provide a niche for other co-species
Does Sterilization Policy Exert an Upward Pressure on Interest Rate as Dictated by Theory? A Nigerian Example
The implications of capital inflows on the economy and the fall out of the policy geared towards addressing these phenomena, especially the impact of the policy on interest rate motivated us in this study. Under the framework of ARDL and using monthly series over a period of 2010M1-2021M3, our findings showed that in the short-run, sterilization policy leads to rising interest rate in the current period. However, after a lag, sterilization policy depresses interest rate. We equally found that in the long-run, sterilization policy pushes interest rate up. In another direction, we observed a negative relationship between money supply and interest rate both in the short-run and in the long-run and the exogenous variables in the model influence interest rate significantly. We therefore recommend that different measures should be adopted to cushion the effect of unsustainable capital inflows to avoid repeated need for further sterilization and the increasing cost of sterilization in the long-run. It is also our advice that exogenous variables should be factored in when fashioning out a desirable interest rate in line with economic reality
A Semantic Analysis of Corona Virus Pandemic Terms
Various epidemics in recent years have introduced myriad of challenges to the entire world. COVID-19 disease is the latest crisis with its attendant health and language issues. With its emergence, COVID-19 introduced into the global linguistic repertoire an avalanche of unknown vocabulary to the ordinary language user. In today’s world, language is not only available for communication; it is a tool that contributes to maintaining global peace and order. In bridging diverse communities of humanities in the world, shared meaning becomes a platform for mutual understanding, promoting intellectual development and collaborative research efforts. The current study aims to explore and explicate the novel language of COVID-19, thereby making meaning accessible for clarity of communication. The qualitative method of analysis which relied on secondary data from different online COVID-19 glossaries was utilised. Data collection was a total of 149 terms, out of which 34 were purposively selected for analysis. This was to examine their semantic meaning and also ascertain their word relations. The study investigates the process of developing meaning mechanisms in the use COVID-19 terms among language users. The study found that the COVID-19 has a distinct vocabulary that can be analysed linguistically. The literature review in this study highlighted past researches on COVID-19 as descriptive, others on the frequency count of words and the etymology of terms
Forms of Further Corporate Education in the Slovakian Construction Industry
The paper deals with further professional education, which involves educational activities aimed at improving knowledge, skills and abilities related to work performance. The focus is on selected attributes of preparing and implementing further professional education in construction companies in Slovakia. The research model was designed to detect weaknesses in assessing educational needs and the kinds and forms of education, to help improve the future organization of further professional education. The authors determined research assumptions and research hypotheses, conducted a questionnaire survey, and analyzed the statistical significance of the results using statistical tests and coefficients. There is minimal use of special-purpose methods for assessing educational needs; qualification education prevails in companies that most frequently provide adaptation education and introductory training. Statistically significant differences in the approach to further education were found based on level of completed education, job position, and company size. In further professional education that requires a guided form of education, distance education (either offline or online) is suitable for construction companies
