A research on growth and yield components of some turmeric varieties (Curcuma longa L.) as affected by inorganic fertilizer levels in Umudike, South Eastern Nigeria was carried out at the teaching and research farm of the University, during 2018/2019 cropping seasons. It was laid out in a split plot design with three replications. Results, showed that plant height and number of tillers for both varieties and fertilizers levels increased at 2, 4, and 6 months after planting (MAP) during 2018 and 2019 cropping seasons. Variety 021 and 400 NPK (15:15:15) Kg-1 produced tallest plants and highest number of tillers over other varieties and fertilizer levels. Crop growth rate was positive at 2 – 4 MAP and negative at 4 – 6 MAP, with 021 and 400 NPK (15:15:15) kgha-1 producing higher growth rate. Heaviest rhizomes fresh weight (kg plot-1) of 3.74 and 3.75, rhizome dry matter content of 14.49 and 16.8%, rhizome dry weight of 23.57 and 23.90g and harvest index of 2.60 and 2.70% was yielded by UMT 021 variety over other varieties. The level of 400 NPK (15:15:15) kg ha-1 produced heaviest rhizome fresh weight of 4.47 and 4.57 kg plot-1; rhizome dry matter content of 19.42 and 25.8%; rhizome dry weight of 27.54 and 27.8g and harvest index of 2.81 and 3.20%, over other levels. Consequently, variety 021 and 400 NPK (15:15:15) kgha-1 are recommended for sole production of turmeric in Umudike, South Eastern Nigeria

Project-based learning is one of the most effective and successful teaching methods for STEM topics. Project-based teaching is an open-ended teaching method that helps teachers stimulate students’ initiative and teamwork skills and promote creativity. Of the interdisciplinary STEM topics, teaching students how to produce aromatic wax proved an interesting topic, causing excitement to students. Through collaborative teaching, this research has shown that students are very interested in learning to produce aromatic wax. The research results also show that there are five factors that greatly affect project-based teaching: (1) Teachers must split the class into groups to implement projects effectively; (2) Topics must be attractive and motivate students to appreciate, explore and produce STEM products; (3) Students must have a positive attitude, unafraid of encountering difficulties and challenges in completing STEM tasks; (4) Students must be competent to implement STEM products; (5) Students must be facilitated by their school and their parents to complete the STEM tasks. The research findings have important implications for proposing a specific project-based learning curriculum on the STEM topic of aromatic wax production

Education involving digital technology is the latest transformation of the education system, especially during the occurrence of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Malaysian Ministry of Education (MOE) has taken the initiative to spearhead efforts to develop the skills and potential of students in the use of digital technology. The main purpose of this study was to identify the level of digital leadership displayed by principals, the level of teachers' digital teaching practices and the elements of principals' digital leadership that predict the level of teachers' digital teaching. About 400 secondary school teachers in Hulu Langat District, Selangor were involved in this study. The findings of this study show that the level of digital leadership displayed by principals and teachers’ digital teaching practice are both at a high level. However, the positive correlation between the two is moderate. Multiple regression found that only digital citizenship is a strong predictor of teachers' digital teaching. The findings show that the ability to plan and organize digital leadership programs is important and can help improve students' academic performance, despite the COVID-19 pandemic crisis

The hotel industry provides numerous jobs and has a significant contribution to local and global economies. Given that the hotel industry is an industry with a significant global impact, it is required to take social and environmental responsibilities earnestly. This study aims to describe the corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategies of five-star hotels in Denpasar City to examine the perceptions of surrounding communities toward these programs and to develop the appropriate CSR strategies for these hotels. This research is a qualitative study employing an exploratory sequential mixed method. The sample of hotel management staff who were interviewed and other respondents who filled out the research questionnaire were selected via purposive sampling. Results prove that CSR in five-star hotels in Denpasar City does not have its own autonomous field and budget authority. In fact, just one five-star hotel in the city has a CSR department. CSR activities in the hotels are in the form of maintenance and donations, and most of them (59%) are perceived as low by the surrounding community. Based on these findings, this work is able to develop a CSR management strategy for five- star hotels in Denpasar City

Development of Adoption Success Model Based on Electronic Regional Tax Returns

    Get PDF
The successful adoption of digital government services is critical. Even more so, in the era of the COVID-19 pandemic, e-government adoption needs attention from many sectors of society. During the pandemic, all government services have been increasingly provided through e-government. This paper examines the success of the electronic regional tax return (e-RTR), and the trust it has garnered as a significant factor in realizing a sustainable information society. The authors researched e-RTR users and data processing using partial least square regressions. The results demonstrated that trust in technology, information quality, information system quality, and service quality positively affected perceived usefulness and user satisfaction. However, trust in government itself has virtually no effect on perceived usefulness or user satisfaction. This indicates enhancing trust in the government should take precedence when the government uses e-government applications as a means of service to the community. Perceived usefulness and user satisfaction have a positive effect on net benefits, and net benefits positively affect the rise of a sustainable information society. This effect proves that a sustainable information society can be realized if the public perceives a net benefit when using e-government

    Get PDF
This study investigates the effect of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) disclosures on the organizational visibility of 25 non-financial companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) during the period of 2015–2019. We posit that ESG disclosure generally affects these firms positively. Our sample consists of 125 firm-year observations of the companies’ sustainability reports, as well as their coverage in the form of news and articles produced by national media. We measure visibility based on the number of media reports received by each of these corporations. Their ESG performances are scored according to the index issued by the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry. We employed multiple linear regression analysis to test our hypothesis. Our research demonstrates significant positive effects of the ESG in the aggregate and in the individual component of disclosures on organizational visibility. These results align with both the legitimacy theory in recognizing the social contract between a business and society and the stakeholder theory in acknowledging the relationships between a business and its customers, suppliers, investors, and others. Both theories underline and emphasize the importance of organizational behavior for ESG activities. Our study contributes to the vibrant and extensive ongoing debates in the organizational visibility literature regarding corporate ESG disclosure

    Get PDF
This research examines the link between corporate social responsibility (CSR) and ownership structure on firm value to encourage sustainability of the banking industry in Indonesia. The study uses the Kinder, Lydenberg, and Domini’s (KLD) assessment to evaluate CSR in the banking sector in Indonesia, and further, it uses economic value added to assess a firm’s value. This research studied 37 banks in Indonesia from 2013 to 2018. The research model employed weighted least square panel tests. Results reveal that the CSR influence is significantly positive for firm value. However, other ownership structures that have a similar effect on firm value are government ownership and foreign institutional ownership. The results further indicate that CSR can be a means of communication and can form a part of a bank’s strategy to enhance value, especially the elements of diversity, environment, and products. Moreover, this research finding provides decision-makers with in-depth knowledge regarding the beneficial effects of ownership structure on company value. The study develops the results from previous studies by discussing each component of CSR performance in the KLD and determines that each component has a varying effect on firm value

    Get PDF
The Ministry of Education has established viable educational ecosystems in order to ensure the equality of rural education. There are three aspects that have been outlined, namely value-based education, quality improvement, and autonomy and accountability of schools and universities. Hence, a study in the form of a survey was conducted to identify the issues surrounding information technology faced by students and teachers in rural secondary schools, and to provide an overview of the usage of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as well as students’ knowledge and teachers’ skills in the teaching and learning process. A total of 49 respondents were involved, comprising 21 students and 28 teachers from nine secondary schools located in one rural area of Kelantan. The findings revealed that a majority of the respondents perceived the use of ICT positively, despite the lack of facilities and expertise. Thus, a need for relevant ICT training was raised by the teachers. Recommendations are also discussed to guide the authorities in planning and preparing appropriate equipment and facilities for the schools, as well as adequate training for teachers and facilitators, before a new policy is introduced to the students. Further research is also recommended to examine the rural students' acceptance of the use of technology
