Role of Country Governance for Improved Environmental Performance

    Get PDF
Environmental issues are gaining significant attention at the organizational and country levels because of the growing pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. This study aimed to examine the relationship between country governance (CG) and environmental protection (EP) at the country level. In addition, the study further examined the outcome of EP in developing and developed countries. Neoliberal environmental governance theory was used as an underpinning theory. The data for CG were obtained from the Worldwide Governance Indicators and Environmental Performance Index for the period between 2006 and 2016. Two control variables, namely, Primary School Enrollment and Country Population, were also considered. The panel regression model was used for data analysis. The findings revealed that CG had a significant relationship with EP. Considering that governments have the power to foster governance practices, companies are prompted to enhance their governance performance, invariably leading to greater engagement in sustainability by improving their regulatory environment and enforcement mechanisms. The findings of the study will assist policymakers and decision-makers in setting priorities for the government to achieve sustainable development goals

    Get PDF
The main objective of this study is to investigate the association of information technology (IT) training, IT perceived benefits, and IT benefits with IT adoption among practicing Chartered Accountants (CAs). The study then explained the implications of IT adoption and evaluated the relationship between IT training, IT perceived usefulness, and IT usefulness to practicing accountants. Employing a quantitative approach, a series of questionnaires were culled out by making the necessary adjustments to the available items. A total of 88 qualified CAs practicing in Kerala were analyzed. As part of the data analysis, the study used Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM–PLS) software. The results of the study have shown a positive significant relationship between two determinants, namely, IT training and IT perceived usefulness, but IT usefulness has no relationship with IT adoption by practicing CAs. This study added to the literature by analyzing IT determinants and the adoption of auditing software among practicing auditors

The Role of Green Entrepreneurship and Green Variables in Sustainable Development in the Culinary Sector in Indonesia: Early Days of the COVID-19 Pandemic

    Get PDF
The UN Sustainable Development Goals are among the crucial missions of countries worldwide, including Indonesia. Nevertheless, application of a production system does not guarantee sustainability, and the Indonesian government’s support for sustainability in the entrepreneurial sector is nonoptimal. This study investigates green entrepreneurship in Indonesia’s culinary sector in relation to sustainable development and green variables. Using a culinary sector survey based on the UNWTO and the Ministry of Tourism, this study references primary questionnaire data, applying a random sampling technique and structural equation modeling covariance with a sample of 270 respondents. The results indicate that the provision of green products affects sustainable development, regardless of respondents’ green entrepreneurship. While green products may affect sustainable development, directly or through green entrepreneurship, green design does not appear to affect sustainable development, and green entrepreneurship does not appear to support sustainable conditions. Environmentally friendly product design and production processes have generated multiple recyclable products; however, the culinary sector must be made aware of the entrepreneurial ecosystem surrounding culinary business governance and the concerns and practices of sustainable development. This study was conducted at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and represents the conditions of the culinary sector during the pandemic

Context-Considered Leadership Development: Quasi-Experiment in a Russian Mining Company

    Get PDF
Scholars argued that leadership development approaches should be deeply contextualized and explain how to develop leadership. This article aimed to answer a research question: how to develop leadership in the context of a Russian mining organization. For that purpose, a quasi-experiment using a pre-and post-intervention was conducted in a Russian mining organization by an immersed researcher. Multiple levels of management were involved. Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire was used as a major measurement tool for leadership styles and effectiveness that had objective criteria. The results indicate that the leadership development was driven by the executives and mirrored by middle managers and supervisors. A cascade of frequency of utilization of leadership styles was observed, which led to an increase in effectiveness. Generally, the intervention caused statistically significant changes with low- to-large effect sizes. To the best of the author’s knowledge, no similar studies were conducted with the reported level of contextualization and details, allowing us to expand the body of knowledge and provide guidance for the practice of leadership development. The study limitations include the following: research was conducted in a real-life context and could be difficult to repeat. The author acted as an associate of the managers, and effectiveness measures transactional outcomes

The Construction of the ‘Other’ through Oral Narrative Performance: A Case of the Bukusu Folktale

    Get PDF
Kenya as a country has different communities. Over time, there have been cases of animosity and even fighting among different communities. Such differences obviously undermine the spirit of coexistence in a given society. Communities often live under fear and tension, raising the question why people shouldn’t coexist peacefully. This necessitates a concerted effort to unearth why such animosity exists. One possible avenue of establishing the kind of relationship that exists between the people is by listening to what they say about each other through their literary performances. This paper takes interest in the Bukusu people who have also been affected by such communal hostilities. The paper specifically focuses on the Bukusu perception of “strangers.” It examines the references in Bukusu narratives with regard to strangers in order to examine how such references are likely to create or diffuse the tensions between the Bukusu and their neighbours

Factors Determining where to Buy Olive Oil on the Tunisian Local Market: The Importance of Quality Attributes Perception

    Get PDF
The aim of this paper is to investigate the extent to which factors determining the purchase of olive oil within Tunisian consumers also determine their choice of its place of purchase. Based on an exploratory survey carried out with Tunisian household heads, an exploratory factor analysis was conducted to determine the principal dimensions of quality attributes and indicators. To evaluate factor determining olive oil purchase decision and its place of purchase choice, a binomial and a multinomial logistic regressions are respectively used. Consumer sensibility to brand and price have a negative impact on buying decision and on the choice of mills, relatives, and store retail, as suppliers of olive oil. Originating from a production area encourage consumers to buy olive oil from friends and relatives. Tunisian olive oil industry is therefore able to adopt product and distribution policies based on consumer expectations, to improve local market consumption

Teachers’ Knowledge of Hybrid Teaching Practiced during the COVID-19 Pandemic and its Effects on Student Achievement

    Get PDF
This study aimed to investigate the level of teachers’ knowledge deemed necessary to meet the requirements of hybrid teaching during the Covid-19 pandemic. A descriptive quantitative approach was used in this study. A questionnaire was used as the tool for data collection; it was composed of three parts. The first part was designed to collect information on demographic characteristics, while the second part was used to collect information about teachers’ knowledge of psychological education theories, teaching styles, IT and education tools. The third part aimed to collect information about the students’ achievements based on teachers’ views. A simple random sample of teachers was selected, comprising 1500 teachers from government schools. The validity and reliability of the questionnaire were measured. The study concluded that teachers had little knowledge about the basic requirements for hybrid teaching and what had been practiced was actually emergency remote teaching. The study recommended the adoption of hybrid teaching strategies nationally as a desired move to be applied and evaluated regularly

Investigation of 5-Year Interconnections between Local Earth Magnetic Field Fluctuations and Acute Myocardial Infarction in Lithuania

    Get PDF
The impact of the local Earth magnetic field (LEMF) on cardiovascular events has been studied recently. Data gathered during past years encouraged us to conduct this epidemiological analysis evaluating the association between changes in LEMF and hospital admissions due to AMI in Lithuania between August 2014 and September 2019. This study is unique due to its coverage of all Lithuanian patients. The frequency of morbidity of AMI was compared with the intensity of the LEMF and correlation coefficient was evaluated. The LEMF was measured by the Global Coherence Monitoring Network magnetometer located in Lithuania. LEMF was measured by pikotesla square (pT²). The LEMF was analized in five frequency ranges [Hz], generally called between Schumann resonance, which overlap with the human brain activity waves on electroencefalogram (EEG) frequency ranges (here, they are named as SDelta (0-3.5Hz), STheta (3.5-7Hz), SAlpha (7-15Hz), SBeta (15-32Hz) and SGamma (32-65Hz) to distinguish from the EEG bands). Significant correlations between weekly admissions of AMI cases and the weekly LEMF strength in five frequency ranges and in total range was found. A clear negative correlation was observed between cases of AMI in female group and LEMF frequency ranges SDelta (0-3.5Hz), STheta (3.5-7Hz), SAlpha (7-15Hz), SBeta (15-32Hz) and in total range. In the second half of the year the number of AMI is lower, therefore negative correlations between SDelta (0-3.5Hz), STheta (3.5-7Hz), SAlpha (7-15Hz) and SBeta (15-32Hz) ranges are stronger than in the first one. This is particularly noticeable in 2016 and 2018 years

Employee Benefits and Earnings Per Share: The Case of Consumer Goods Firms in Nigeria

    Get PDF
The development of an economy involves the agglomeration of the output of various firms across the sectors. Firms’ output is basically a function of employees’ motivation. Thus, meeting the employees’ aspirations is an essential condition. The study aims at examining the effect of employees benefits on financial performance of consumer goods sector in Nigeria using panel dataset from ten consumer goods firms listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) and ranges from 2012 to 2019. To achieve the stated aim this study employed the panel Random effect modeling approach after subjecting the dataset to series of tests to validate its conformity with statistical prescriptions. The study's findings show that, in varied degrees, gratuity (GRY), medical allowance (MDA), and salary (SAY) has statistically significant influence on earnings per share (EPS), which is utilized as the measure of organizational development in the study. Gratuity and medical have negative effect, while Pension (PSN) and Salary were found to have positive effect. However, Pension is statistically insignificant. The implication of the findings is that an increase in salary has the tendency of enhancing organizational development. Thus, for organizational development through employees’ benefits, salary increment will have to be given a serious consideration and maybe Pension too
