Problem-based learning in the online flipped classroom: Its impact on statistical literacy skills
This study aimed to improve students' literacy skills in carrying out distance learning and examine the effect of problem-based learning in reverse online classes on statistical literacy skills in distance learning. This research was conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic at Prisma University and Manado State University with 198 students taking statistical methods courses. A quantitative approach to quasi-experimental research was used. The instruments used are written tests and video-based projects with relevant entrepreneurship questions. Data was collected through pre- and post-tests, then analyzed using a two-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and an independent sample t-test. The results showed that problem-based learning in reverse online classes positively affected statistical literacy skills in distance learning. In addition, positive responses from students working on statistical projects in entrepreneurship were found. This may be observed from the perceptions of students who show high satisfaction with the assignment in the field of entrepreneurship in this study. Furthermore, the results of this study confirm that student involvement is a critical element in implementing distance learning
A comparative study of social media networks among higher education students
This study aims to compare how students perceive and use social media networks (SMNs) in both Omani and Russian higher education institutions. An extensive literature survey was conducted through which the content of the questionnaire was compiled in English, validated for its content, clarity and accuracy by Russian and Omani reviewers and then translated. Data was collected from 837 undergraduate Russian and Omani students using online Google Forms. The results indicate a moderate level of SMNs use in both Higher Education Institution (HEIs) contexts with cross-platform mobile applications at the top of list of the SMNs used by both groups for social connections and multimedia sharing. The overall perceptions towards SMNs seem to be neutral among Russian and Omani students followed by positive perceptions. The study recommends that teachers in both countries provide 'attractive' academic content through a social and multimedia design approach

The objective of this study is to assess the efficacy of a comprehensive strategy for developing the professional abilities of social educators. Additionally, it seeks to identify the problems encountered by high schools in this regard and examine the process of cultivating professional competencies. The research comprised a sample of 253 individuals from L. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, located in Astana, Kazakhsta. The study compares the diagnostic results on a quantitative and qualitative level. The assessment standards of Fisher and the descriptive statistics were acquired. The study's data was gathered by requesting questions from teachers and students, testing, interviews, and evaluations from experts who fit this profile. The findings indicated that future social educators will have problems with their lack of high-level professional competence. Additionally, the majority of employers have requirements that are related to how well students develop their skills as well as their motivation to engage in extracurricular activities, work on themselves, and engage in future professional endeavors. The study revealed that employing an integrated strategy for the training of prospective social teachers yielded the most significant impact on the development of their professional abilities. The study's findings can be used to improve vocational training for social educators
Digital ethics in education: An examination of Omani information studies students’ ethical competencies during e-learning
Shifting to an e-learning style forced students to learn many skills and competencies to benefit from their experience in an e-learning environment. Ethical competencies play a crucial role in ensuring the fairness of students' assessments and the overall educational process. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the research used a questionnaire to evaluate the ethical understanding of students enrolled in Sultan Qaboos University's Information Studies Department using a quantitative methodology. The findings of this study reveal a significant lack of basic ethical competencies among students in the e-learning environment which negatively impacts their educational experience. The responses obtained indicate a low level of awareness regarding ethical practices in e-learning as well as a lack of knowledge concerning learning misconduct practices. The study suggests the implementation of an educational program that addresses academic ethical practices and e-learning misconduct across all educational levels. The outcomes of this research contribute to a better understanding of current e-learning practices among students, raise awareness about the importance of ethical competencies in e-learning and provide guidance for students to develop ethical digital competencies
Communication activities of students with the social cultural environment during floods: A case study in Thua Thien Hue province, Vietnam
This study aims to explore the variances in communication behaviours among undergraduate students within the social-cultural context. A total of 104 participants (40 lecturers and six managers) were selected from two universities, namely Hue University of Science and Hue University of Education. The collected data was subsequently evaluated. The findings suggest that there are slight differences between male and female students. This study highlights significant differences in involvement among Kinh ethnic students and students from other ethnic groups. Furthermore, the geographical location and sociocultural environment of a region significantly influence the communication behaviors and preferences of students. Students demonstrate higher mean scores in diverse communication activities as compared to lecturers. The results highlight the significance of gender, ethnicity, geographic location and student status in influencing students' participation in communication. Recognizing and addressing these differences can help in the development of effective communication strategies, the development of inclusive environments and the encouragement of positive social interactions among various groups of students. The implications for students' well-being, academic success and intercultural competency might be explored in more detail in further studies by examining the fundamental variables that lead to these differences
Investigation of science process skills and computational thinking dispositions during the implementation of collaborative modeling-based learning in high school physics class
Computational thinking (CT) skills are essential with the rapid advancement of technology. Developing CT attitudes in students is also required for improving CT skills. On the other hand, science process skills are also emphasized in high school physics classes. This study aims to design and implement collaborative modeling-based learning for high school physics classes that stimulates computational thinking (CT) and science process skills. The learning activities use a collaborative approach and adapt the modeling process that scientists usually use. A pilot study in a high school physics course was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of collaborative modeling-based learning. The research instruments used in this study include a test for assessing theoretical understanding, an observational rubric for assessing science process skills and a self-report checklist to assess CT dispositions. A pre-and post-test design is employed in the pilot study. Eighty-nine students participated in this study. Students who participated in collaborative modeling-based learning gained a theoretical understanding. Moreover, they have excellent science process skills. According to the self-report checklist, students also demonstrated positive CT attitudes and indicated that they planned to apply CT aspects to their learning. It indicates that the modeling process has engaged students to think computationally and develop their process skills
Participatory demonstration and evaluation of improved onion variety in East Shewa zone of Oromia regional state, Ethiopia
The study was carried out in selected districts of East Shewa zone Oromia regional state to compare the performance of a recently released onion variety (Nafis) with their recommended agronomic recommendations to a control (Bombay red) through an on-farm demonstration. The demonstration was implemented on 9.3 hectares of 37 farmers’ farmland. The Nafis variety outperformed the control, with a mean yield of 293.2 qt/ha. The mean technology gap was 106.8 qt/ha and the technology index recorded was observed to be 26.7%. Farmers' preferences were used to evaluate onion varieties with criteria of yield, disease, bulb size, bulb color (deep red preferred), pungency, storability, and market preference. Nafis variety is preferred over the Bombay red variety. In addition, lack of improved seeds, high chemical costs, and insect and disease infestations are among the major constraints limiting onion production and productivity in the study area. Trips and fungi (Purple Bloch) have also been identified by farmers as a major disease affecting onion production in the districts. In general, the demonstrated variety (Nafis) was found to be feasible and preferred by the farmers to cultivate in the East Shewa zone as compared to the check (Bombay red). Therefore, onion yield in farmers' fields can be improved largely by cultivating the Nafis variety in the study area and similar environments
The Role of Moral Norms and Religious Orientation in Predicting Consumer’s Pro-Environmental Behavior
Sustainability has been popular in the recent marketing literature. Scholars take their role by investigating how to positively influence people to be more proactive in green consumption behavior. While a green attitude failed to predict green behavior, thus relying on a green attitude is not the solution. Scholars need to find out what factors need to be improved to shape consumers’ green attitudes. This study uses a relatively new perspective by examining the role of Moral Norms and Religious Orientation in predicting pro-green Behavior through forming Green Attitude Purchasing. Moral Norms and Religious Orientation, two common values which are highly concerned by most common societies in Indonesia, have never been tested together as predictors of green behavior. The proposed model is tested through hypothesis testing and 250 respondents who are daily convenience users of green products were involved. The sequential equation modeling analysis result shows that the model is fit, and all hypotheses are supported. Hence, Moral Norms and Religious Orientation can be used together to predict Green Behavior through forming of Green Purchasing Attitude. This finding contributes new perspectives that Moral and Religiosity can be applied simultaneously to any green marketing campaign, especially in Indonesia

Based on the results of this study, the authors also make some implications for companies as well as external auditors. The value of the research will help prepare for the devaluation of inventories. Factors for predicting provision for devaluation of inventories are also included in this study
A Comprehensive Analysis of the Drivers Behind the Effective Tax Rate of Financial Times Stock Exchange (FTSE) in Malaysia
This study examines corporate effective tax rates (ETR) of Malaysian multinational corporations (MNC) listed in the Financial Times Stock Exchange (FTSE) Bursa Malaysia Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) and FTSE Bursa Malaysia Mid 70 Index. The main objective of this study is to examine the relationship between the ETR of MNCs with subsidiaries in tax haven countries, and selected corporate characteristics such as firm size, leverage, capital intensity, return on assets, inventory intensity, profit margin, and foreign directors. Using a multiple linear regression approach on a balanced panel sample of 68 companies (321 firm-years) spanning 2017 to 2021, the study provides evidence for the variability of corporate ETRs in which the average corporate ETRs falls below the STR for the financial year 2021 of 24%. The statistical results also reveal that lower ETRs are associated with highly leveraged companies, and greater investments in fixed assets. Further, a negative coefficient for return on assets and profit margin suggests that companies have benefited from tax incentives provided by the government. Hence, this study contributes to tax literature and policymakers on factors that influence the corporate ETR, especially MNC with subsidiaries in tax haven countries. Tax authorities should implement tight monitoring to avoid these MNCs extensively engaging in tax planning which will result in revenue loss to the Malaysian income tax collection
