    Get PDF
The study aims to reveal the psychological and pedagogical indicators of self-management in a student's personality and systematize contemporary synergetic approaches for distance education. The research hypothesis suggests the possibility of optimizing students' motivation for self-management and self-learning for efficient education in a distance mode. The study's methodology is comprehensive and uses a qualitative approach. 463 students from higher institutions in Kazakhstan participated in the study. The research used a survey method in which students assessed their self-study skills. Qualitative analysis of the questionnaires made it possible to divide the respondents into three subgroups according to the results of their ability to self-study. Training and additional classes were planned and conducted in these subgroups, considering the results of the power to self-organize and self-learn, which had a positive effect. Students have different indicators of self-learning abilities, and dividing them into subgroups and differentiating the approach to organizing training has significantly increased self-learning abilities. The synergetic approach allows students to develop their self-management skills and use innovative methods to improve their subject knowledge quality. Using differentiated and synergistic approaches in online learning helps to improve the quality of learning in general

Student motivation in learning and perceptions of online teachers

    Get PDF
The goal of this study was to examine the relationship between students’ motivation for learning in an online course and their perceptions regarding the teacher’s role. 520 undergraduate students at a college participated in asynchronous online courses and responded to a closed-ended questionnaire about their motivation for learning and their expectations regarding the teacher’s role in online courses. The study’s findings indicate significant relationships between the students' different types of motivation for learning in the online course and their perception of the teacher's role in these courses. For example, students with high levels of self-efficacy and control over their learning beliefs expect the teacher to meet their pedagogical and differentiating roles. However, students with high levels of test anxiety expect the teacher to meet affective and technological needs. Therefore, when preparing online courses, these differences must be taken into account and teachers must carefully consider how they fulfill their role. For example, if teachers focus solely on the pedagogical role, it is likely to negatively affect the success of students facing high levels of anxiety. However, teachers who primarily promote affective social interactions will disappoint another group of students.  Enhancing teachers’ awareness of the association between students’ motivation and their expectations of their teachers could help teachers plan their courses to best meet their students’ needs and perhaps reduce dropping out

Examining the Role of Nuclear Energy and Financial Development on Biodiversity Risk in France: New Evidence from NARDL

    Get PDF
This study aims to investigate the nonlinear effect of nuclear energy, economic complexity, and financial development on biodiversity in France using the NARDL. Unlike other traditional proxies of ecological quality (CO2 and EF), this study utilized the “Biodiversity habitat index”. The analysis revealed that positive shocks in nuclear energy led to sustainable biodiversity in France. Moreover, negative shocks from nuclear energy led to biodiversity losses both in the short and long term. Moreover, financial development and economic complexity were found to exhibit favorable conditions for biodiversity in the long term. Contrarily, economic growth accelerates biodiversity loss in France. Policymakers should endeavor to promote investments in nuclear energy, green finance, and implementation of climate- related risk management frameworks

Integrated Framework for Measuring the Impact of Corporate Sustainability Performance on Financial Performance via Customer Attraction

    Get PDF
The study aims to develop an integrated framework for measuring the impact of corporate sustainability performance on financial performance via customer attraction. The study explores and communicates by literature the linkages and factors affecting corporate sustainability performance (i.e. socio-economic and environmental activities): how do proper socio-economic and environmental management translate to corporate socio-economic and environmental performances; how can factors of socio-economic performance (e.g. socio-economic development and human rights) and environmental performance (e.g. environmental process and product focus) translate via customer attraction to different measures of profit. The results prove that socio-economic development, human rights, environmental process, and product focus translate to corporate socio-economic environmental performance, and then – via customer attraction – positively influence financial performance. The study assists management to know how to achieve competitive advantage and increase their triple bottom lines by attracting and retaining customers, thus, how it ultimately influences environmental, social, and economic success. The value of the study is that it delivers an integrated framework for measuring the impact of corporate sustainability performance on financial performance via customer attraction

The current study aimed to evaluate an online learning experience based on the music model of motivation in an educational technology post-graduate program in Oman. In order to understand the motivational perceptions of students regarding the instruction, a two-phase, sequential explanatory mixed method research design was conducted in this study. The quantitative data was collected from 40 students who enrolled in one class in which the instructional design was implemented for 2 weeks. After collecting the quantitative data, 10 students who voluntarily participated in the study's second phase were asked to respond to open-ended questions. The quantitative and qualitative data were interpreted and reported together by researchers. In conclusion, this research revealed that instructional design based on the music model of motivation is effective in increasing the motivation of students for each component of the model. Therefore, the researchers recommended expanding the use of the music model in the context of e-learning especially with part- time postgraduate students

Efficacy of school-based career guidance interventions: A review of recent research

    Get PDF
This paper aims to examine the impacts of career guidance interventions on school students’ career-related skills, knowledge and beliefs by combining relevant empirical studies conducted in the last 10 years. A random-effects meta-analytic technique was employed for this purpose. After screening, electronic databases using pre-defined eligibility criteria, nine studies involving a total of 1,433 participants were included in the final meta-analysis. The analysis yielded a weighted mean effect size of 0.42 (95% confidence interval = 0.19, 0.65; z = 3.61, p < 0.01) which may be construed as a moderate-to-high effect size with a significant difference between the treatment and control conditions at post-treatment. As a result, post-test career-related outcomes in students who received career guidance were significantly higher than in non-guidance groups. The results suggest that career interventions may provide some modest developmental progression in school-age children and adolescents particularly through improving learners’ career decidedness and attitudes such as future time perspective. These findings might have strategic implications for policy and practice. This paper extends past research on career guidance effectiveness by identifying the combined effect size of relevant career interventions

    Get PDF
This study aims to demonstrate the efficacy of gamification in developing HTML programming skills and academic achievement motivation for 10th-grade students. Despite the significance of computer programming in developing students' thinking, many students still need more motivation to learn it. One of the entertaining strategies of computer programming is gamification. The study used a quasi-experimental design for two groups. The experimental group (N=18) was taught by gamification and the control group (N=17) was taught by the traditional teaching method. The researcher conducted a pre-test to determine the equivalence between groups using a valid and reliable practical test and scale.  After three-weeks of teaching, the same test and scale were applied to compare the groups. The result showed statistical differences between the two groups in favor of the experimental group in programming skills and all academic achievement motivation dimensions. This study recommended that using gamification in teaching programming languages to students at different stages would help computer teachers.  More research should be conducted to investigate the impact of gamification on teaching different programming languages
