Developing a model for life skills training through the enhancement of academic, personal, social, and career competencies for middle school students
The objective of this research is to develop a model for life skills training through the strengthening of academic, personal, social, and career competencies for middle school students. We designed this model to equip students with the necessary skills to navigate the complexities of life’s challenges. Design-Based Research (DBR) serves as a research methodology, encompassing four stages: identification and analysis of practical problems, solution design, iterative testing cycles and solution refinement, reflection, and producing the final design. Validation testing of the model was conducted with four experts, including one developmental guidance and counseling specialist, one developmental psychologist, one adolescent psychologist, one curriculum and learning specialist, and eight guidance and counseling teachers or practitioners. The results of expert and practitioner validation indicate that the life skills training model is worthy of further experimentation to develop student’s life skills. Recommendations for future research emphasize the importance of developing new skills or competencies for the younger generation and educators to address the challenges and dynamics of the digital era. Globalization and societal shifts toward digitally automated services underscore the need for teacher preparation in imparting life skills that not only adhere to conventional norms but also integrate technological skills into student education
The Influence of Social Identity, Self-Concept and Learning Motivation on the Motor Ability of Elementary School Students
This study aims to examine the factors that influence the motor abilities of elementary school students. The following aspects were explored: 1) The influence of social identity on students' motor abilities. 2) The influence of self-concept on students' motor abilities. 3) The influence of learning motivation on students' motor abilities. 4) The simultaneous influence of social identity, self-concept and learning motivation on students' motor abilities. In this study, a quantitative method was employed to investigate the relationship between the three aforementioned factors and motor ability among 128 elementary school students in Banda Aceh City. The data collection process involved the use of structured questionnaires which were employed to gather relevant information. Multiple regressions were used to analyse the data with the use of SPSS version 23 software. The obtained results from this study showed that both social identity and learning motivation positively and significantly influenced the motor ability of the observed students while self-concept had no discernable impact. However, when simultaneously considering these variables altogether, it was found that they did significantly influence the skills of the students. In a nutshell, the results of this study indicated that there was a positive relationship between social identity and the motor ability of the students. The implications of this research show that to improve students' motor abilities, efforts must also be made to increase social identity and learning motivation
Teachers' perspectives on applying online learning tools through learning management system: The need for an online Malay language teaching module
This study examines Malay language teachers' perceptions of using Google tools in their online teaching in primary schools. It uses a basic interpretative research methodology to investigate the perspectives of six primary school Malay language teachers from Terengganu, Malaysia. Interviews with semi-structured questions were used to collect data and analyzed thematically. All the themes and sub-themes were organized using NVivo 12 software. The data show that the predominant topic in teachers' thoughts on the importance of Google tools was the reasons for their absence of use. There were two essential sub-themes: a lack of skills and proficiency and a need for more awareness of how to use Google tools. Furthermore, this study highlighted personal support of module development as a secondary theme which included two sub-themes: agreement with the need for modules and the importance of providing them. This study also underlined the importance of module preparation which was reinforced by two sub-themes: facilitating teachers' implementation of online teaching and serving as a significant reference for teachers. This study shows that effective online education requires competency, skills and knowledge of Google Tools. It suggests creating a Google Tools module to guide and serve as a resource for Malay language teachers
Transformational teacher leadership: Self-perception of primary education teachers in Indonesia
This study examines the self-perceptions of Indonesian primary education teachers as transformational leaders. A quantitative survey was conducted with 400 randomly selected teachers from Lampung Province, Indonesia to assess their transformational leadership (TL) practices using the Transformational Teaching Questionnaire (TTQ) adapted and validated for use in the Indonesian context. The instrument's reliability and validity were confirmed ensuring its robustness. This study found that 15 out of 16 items demonstrated strong factor loadings indicating good construct validity while one item was excluded due to low factor loading. Overall, teachers rated themselves highly on TL scales emphasizing the importance of respect and adherence to cultural norms within their educational practices. These results highlight the potential of TL in improving student outcomes and fostering school improvement. Promoting TL among teachers can create a more effective teaching environment positively impacting student success and overall school quality. The study also emphasizes the need for continuous professional development in TL for teachers. The study supports the integration of TL training in teacher development programs highlighting its relevance to educational policy and practice. Future research should include diverse educational contexts employ longitudinal designs to observe changes over time and incorporate multiple data sources to enhance the robustness of findings
Challenges of learning speaking skills in online learning environments: A study of Jordanian EFL teachers’ perceptions
E-learning opens a new horizon within educational contexts worldwide. Previous studies showed a dearth of research identifying EFL teachers’ perceptions of EFL learners’ hardships in speaking skills. Hence, this article investigates the Jordanian EFL teachers’ perceptions of the current challenges of learning speaking skills EFL learners experience in an e-learning environment. The research instrument was a cross-sectional questionnaire delivered to 218 Jordanian EFL teachers. Descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA and an independent sample paired t-test were employed for data analysis. The results revealed that most Jordanian EFL teachers are aware of the current challenges of learning speaking skills in an e-learning environment. Such challenges involve a lack of vocabulary, motivation and self-confidence, grammatical mistakes, stress, anxiety and problems in pronunciation. Moreover, concerning research independent variables, the effect of gender and age did not record any significant differences whereas the academic degree and years of experience showed significant differences among Jordanian EFL teachers’ perceptions in favor of those who hold bachelor’s degrees (BA) and those who fall within the category of 5-10 years of experience. This paper recommends implementing remedial programs related to developing speaking skills
The impact of short-term training in qualitative research methods delivered to emerging researchers in disability education in India
This paper reports the findings from a pre- and post- survey of participants and interviews with a small number of course members. A three-day course of training in qualitative research methods was delivered to a cohort of inexperienced researchers, all of whom were working in the field of special educational needs and disability, in Kolkata, India. The study examines the effectiveness of the training, taking into account the teaching methods used and the structure of the workshop. The findings suggest that emerging researchers prefer a hands-on workshop approach to more traditional lecture delivery of research training. The levels of support provided by tutors and the interaction with practical activities using bespoke resources found favour with participants. Following the training workshop, members expressed greater confidence in their ability to use qualitative research methods and understood the relation of this approach to quantitative studies. Some who completed the course have begun to conduct independent research investigations using the methods taught
