The Influence of Earnings Management and Earnings Opacity on Firm Value with Corporate Governance Mechanism as a Moderating
This study investigates the impact of Earnings Management and Earnings Opacity on Firm Value, with Corporate Governance as a moderating factor. Firm Leverage and Firm Size are utilized as control variables to refine the analysis. The research comprises 304 observations from 76 consumer goods and agriculture companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange between 2018 and 2021. Panel data regression analysis is conducted to test the hypotheses. Results reveal that Earnings Management and Earnings Opacity positively influence Firm Value. However, Corporate Governance does not enhance the relationship between Earnings Management and Firm Value. In contrast, Corporate Governance amplifies the impact of Earnings Opacity on Firm Value, underscoring the critical role of governance in mitigating the adverse effects of financial report opacity. This study enriches existing literature by examining the differential moderating effects of Corporate Governance on Earnings Management and Earnings Opacity. The findings offer valuable insights for corporate leaders, highlighting that robust governance and financial transparency drive sustainable performance and bolster investor confidence. By fostering transparency and accountability, companies contribute to market stability and public trust, especially in sectors vital to economic growth. Targeting specific sectors in emerging markets advances the understanding of financial reporting and governance dynamics
An experimental study on improving reading comprehension and analytical writing skills of twelfth-grade students on lexical and collaborative learning in Chinese language courses
This study explores the practical effects of lexical and collaborative learning on improving reading comprehension and analytical writing skills among twelfth-grade students in Chinese language classes. A sample of 30 students aged 17 to 19 was selected from a public high school in China. The Chinese Reading Comprehension Skills Test Paper (CRCSTP) and the Analytical Writing Skills Assessment Scale (AWSAS) were used to measure students' reading comprehension and analytical writing abilities before and after the experiment, employing a single-group pretest-posttest experimental design. Students' Chinese reading comprehension skills significantly improved after the experiment, with the standard deviation (SD) decreasing from 2.95 to 2.01 and the mean score (X¯) increasing from 16.67 to 18.47. The t-test indicated a substantial improvement (t(29) = -5.34, p < 0.05). Additionally, students' analytical writing abilities showed significant enhancement, with the SD decreasing from 2.34 to 1.79 and X¯ increasing from 17.2 to 20.1. The t-test demonstrated a statistically significant improvement (t(29) = -12.52, p < 0.05). These findings suggest that integrating lexical and collaborative learning into the Chinese language curriculum effectively enhances twelfth-grade students' reading comprehension and analytical writing skills
Antecedents of Green Purchase Intention using the Theory of Planned Behavior Model: Evidence from India
The study’s purpose is to examine the effect of antecedents (green ads, green brand image, environmental knowledge, concern, and attitude) on green purchase intention using the theories of reasoned action and planned behavior, with subjective norms and perceived behavioral control acting as moderators. Snowball sampling was used to collect data from 323 Indian respondents, which was then analyzed using structural equation modelling. The findings show that green ads and brand image significantly impacted environmental knowledge, concern, and attitude. Similarly, environmental knowledge had a positive impact on environmental concern and green attitude but did not impact green purchase intention, whereas environmental concern had a favorable impact on green attitude but did not impact green purchase intention; attitude had a significant impact on green purchase intention. Moderation results revealed that subjective norms had a positive moderation relationship between attitude and green purchase intention. However, there was no moderate relationship between environmental knowledge, concern, and green purchase intention. In contrast, perceived behavioral control had a positive moderation relationship between environmental knowledge, concern, attitude, and green purchase intention
Properties of boiled or steamed Procambarus clarkii girard and Procambarus zonangulus crawfish tail meat during refrigerated and frozen storage
This research was conducted to address the different cooking methods of crawfish processors and determine the refrigerated or frozen shelf-life of cooked product. Live crawfish, (Procambarus clarkii girard and Procambarus zonangulus), were either boiled or steamed before storage of 11 days in refrigerated (3°C) conditions or six months in frozen storage (-18°C). There were minimal moisture, ash, protein, and fat differences with cooking type or storage type. There were no E.coli/coliforms in samples and aerobic plate counts were less than 3 log10 colony forming untis (CFU)/g after 6 mo frozen storage and higher than 3 log10 CFU/g after 3 days of refrigerated storage. Lipid oxidation by TBARS increased, but was less than 0.53 mg MDA/kg during storage. Peak force, total shear work, pH, L*, a*, b* color values were variable during storage, but not different between cooking treatments at each storage period. Mineral and fatty acid analyses were similarly variable. There were no differences between boiling and cooking crawfish for most variables and natural variation among the samples might explain variability in refrigerated and frozen storage. Processors can use either boiling or steaming to cook crawfish and store cooked crawfish for 3 days in refrigerated storage and for 6 weeks in frozen storage with minimal changes in properties
Preparation of chemically crosslinked chitosan hydrogels with adipic acid and EDAC carbodiimide: Tailored biomaterials for multifunctional applications
Hydrogels are versatile biomaterials with significant potential in agriculture, food preservation, and biomedical applications. Hydrogels are three-dimensional networks of hydrophilic polymers that can absorb and retain large amounts of water or biological fluids. Among the polymers suitable for hydrogel synthesis, chitosan is particularly notable due to its biocompatibility, biodegradability, and antimicrobial properties. This study investigates chitosan characteristics, focusing on its various properties and how they influence its potential applications in the synthesis of chitosan hydrogels crosslinked with adipic acid using the water-soluble carbodiimide N-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-N'-ethylcarbodiimide hydrochloride (EDAC) to develop multifunctional films for practical applications. The raw materials were characterized using potentiometric titration, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD). The hydrogels were analyzed for morphology and crystallinity through Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), FTIR and XRD, comparing samples with and without the addition of the carbodiimide crosslinker. Quantitative analysis of swelling behavior was also conducted using standard buffer solutions. The results showed that crosslinking with adipic acid enhanced the crystallinity of chitosan, while the inclusion of EDAC reduced crystallinity and the degree of swelling, indicating improved crosslinking between polymer chains. These changes in structural and functional properties demonstrate the adaptability of these hydrogels for specific applications. This study underscores the potential of chitosan-based hydrogels as advanced biomaterials
A review of the role of lectins in animal gametes and embryo development
Lectins are carbohydrate binding proteins found in most of the plants and in some animals. Sperm glycocalyx modifications are known to occur during capacitation and the acrosome reaction. These changes are very important for gamete recognition and fertilization in mammals but are not fully understood. Moreover, studies on lectin treatment of oocytes have yielded inconsistent effects on fertilization rates, suggesting a complex interplay of mechanisms. Beyond fertilization, the mitogenic properties of lectins are associated with germinal vesicle breakdown and cumulus cell expansion, indicating their involvement in oocyte maturation. Lectins have been also implicated in modulating cell adhesion, cell surface remodeling, and signaling pathways during early embryonic cleavage stages, influencing successful preimplantation embryo development. This article discusses the roof lectins in sperm, oocyte and embryo biology
The visual arts' role in the development of students' noosphere worldview
Noospheric education is considered the basis for the formation of an environmental culture in people and society aimed at solving a complex of problems related to ensuring the sustainable development of society. Identifying promising areas for noospheric education development and demonstrating the importance of students developing a noospheric vision of the world through the visual arts depend on whether the necessary conditions for achieving the desired results have been established. This study aims to examine the impact of software on the effective formation of students' noospheric vision of the world using the visual arts. A quantitative and qualitative research design was used in this study. The study involved 240 fourth-grade students at secondary school no. 12 in the city of Almaty (Kazakhstan). The findings revealed issues with the formation of students' noospheric worldviews which demonstrates that students have an unstable perception of the intellectual sphere and develop an enthusiasm for the bright, spectacular objects and phenomena of their surroundings rather than their content. Experts can use the research findings to model environmental education in secondary schools, in the practical work of visual arts instructors, in the creation of curriculum and instructional aids for the visual arts and in the transmission of information on noospheric concepts

In Indonesia, educational activities have shifted to home-based learning after the COVID-19 epidemic broke out. Consequently, digital learning has become a necessary option for many teachers. This study aims to understand teachers’ experiences, digital platform mastery, digital-based learning pedagogy and the role of parents in learning at home in implementing the teaching process using learning management system-based blended learning media during the COVID-19 epidemic. A questionnaire was used in this study to gather data on the experiences of the teachers, parents' participation in home learning during COVID-19, the digital pedagogy and the mastery of digital platforms using a qualitative approach. This study involved 16 students’ parents and 96 elementary school teachers. The data was analyzed using NVivo Pro software. The testing of data validity was carried out through data triangulation. Results of this recent study revealed that based on their experience, teachers still used videos as the main teaching material in digital learning and they carried out the learning assessment process using digital platforms. This was impacted by the process of changing from distant learning to the new normal. Additionally, the selection of digital media was carried out by considering media effectiveness, the learning process, available facilities and digital literacy. Moreover, parents not only provided learning facilities at home but were also more active as facilitators and supervisors during the learning process at home. This study contributes to provide some considerations for mathematics teachers in designing learning management system-based blended learning media in elementary schools during the COVID-19 epidemic
Impact of social media on secondary schools’ youths within Edo North, Edo State, Nigeria: A psychological perspective
This study examined the psychological impact of social media on Nigerian teenagers looking at how social media posts and tweets (messages) influence their perceptions towards migrating abroad. A survey research method was adopted to investigate the problem in its natural setting. Four secondary schools (SSs) within Edo North, Edo State, Nigeria were randomly selected from 56 government-owned SSs for the study. A questionnaire was used as a data collection instrument to obtain respondents' views (data) which was later analysed using SPSS. Spearman correlation and Pearson's R were used to measure the two hypotheses symmetrically. The chi-square was then used to test the results. According to their opinions (data collected), the findings of the study revealed that Nigerian teenagers of school age have access to social media, prefer text, video and audio kinds of information and mostly prefer Facebook to other social media networking sites. After analysing the tested hypotheses, the researcher concludes that there is a significant relationship between social media messages and Nigerian teenagers’ desire to travel abroad. Hence, social media messages or information affect their mental construct negatively which could be compared to mental slavery and they made some recommendations that would assist in mitigating these impacts
Student engagement, brand image and loyalty relationships: The mediating role of student satisfaction
The aim of this study is to explore the relationship between student engagement, brand image, student satisfaction and loyalty. Furthermore, the study intends to explore the mediating role of student satisfaction in the relationship between engagement and loyalty as well as brand image and loyalty in the context of higher education. A representative sample of 296 students from the three best private universities in Dhaka has been gathered in order to test the hypotheses. The study demonstrates that brand image has a favorable impact on student satisfaction while student engagement has no influence on student satisfaction. The results show that loyalty is heavily influenced by the student satisfaction construct. When there is no mediation between student engagement and loyalty, a complete mediation is recognized when student satisfaction is a mediator between brand image and student loyalty. The study also reveals that there is a negative correlation between student engagement and satisfaction. The results of the research definitely improve brand perception which keeps students engaged to their higher education
