Get PDFFor a long period of time, women played significant roles in many pre-colonial African societies, serving in various capacities as religious, political, and economic leaders. The exact roles and status of these women, however, differ contrastively from one society to another based on factors such as religion, culture, and social organization. Though this unpopular fact about African history receives little or no attention from scholars, few studies offer some insights into the history and transformation of the powers of female leaders in Africa (Weir, 2000; Ogbomo, 2005; Weir, 2006; Achebe, 2011; Akyeampong & Fofack, 2014). Along this intersection, Mba\u27s Emergent Masculinities is no doubt a significant contribution, especially to the pre-colonial and colonial history of the Igbo at the Bight of Biafra (1750-1920), focusing mainly on how certain Western influences such as the Trans-Atlantic Slavery, legitimate trade, and colonialism shaped the peoples\u27 socio-political and economic institutions

Assessing College Campus Sequestration Estimates Using i-Tree Canopy, Cortland County, New York
No full textGreenhouse gas emissions are a significant contributing factor to the greenhouse effect. The process of carbon sequestration, or carbon storage, is the natural absorption of carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere. This study addressed the possible impact of geographic setting and scale on the estimation of carbon sequestration from trees. This was conducted using i-Tree Canopy version 7.1 and ArcMap version 10.8 for SUNY Cortland, SUNY Cortland Hoxie Gorge, Cortlandville, City of Cortland, Town of Homer, Village of Homer, and Cortland County. Results indicated these municipalities were the most urbanized in the county. Ultimately, Cortland County had the highest amount of tree canopy, therefore the highest amount of sequestration and storage. The county had an average of 474,080 and 15,179,990 tons, respectively, while SUNY Cortland had the least with averages of 81.39 and 2,606.15 tons. Additionally, i-Tree Canopy produced reliable and accurate estimates with no influence from geographic setting or scale.https://digitalcommons.cortland.edu/posters/1036/thumbnail.jp
Land Cover Classification of Ice Jam Flooding Using UAS Imagery and Open Source GIS In Plymouth, NH
No full textThis poster reports on supervised image classification performed on archived UAS data of the Plymouth, NH ice jam of February 2017. Ice jams are a costly occurrence as noted by the USACE Ice Jam Database (2020) and referred to as ‘nuisance flooding’ during spring thaws. Data collected with a DJI Inspire 1 with FC550 sensor over four miles of the Pemigewasset River resulted in a final 3 cm resolution mosaic image. We accessed the data set from USGS Earth Explorer and processed it with the free and open source GIS application Quantum GIS (QGIS). First, we classify the image using a training data set and the maximum likelihood algorithm. We next determine the extent of land cover classes to differentiate ice, snow, mixed snow-water, and water classes. Finally, we perform an accuracy assessment using a random sample to determine accuracy of the land cover map of the ice jam area.https://digitalcommons.cortland.edu/posters/1035/thumbnail.jp
A Qualitative Inquiry of the Interdisciplinary Engagement of Teacher\u27s and Therapist\u27s providing Virtual Services to Children with Disabilities
Get PDFIn this research project, my goal was to determine if using the sensory-based equipment, used in Sensory Fit Families, as a bridge helped promote interdisciplinary discussions leading to a better or more effective service delivery model. I did this research through virtual interviews and transcribing the data. I examined teachers’ and therapists’ perceptions toward interdisciplinary collaboration when delivering online (virtual) instruction to preschool-aged children with disabilities. With this, I was able to triangulate key information on relevant content, activities, and feedback that focus on a unique collaboration between Physical Education teachers, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Speech Pathologists, and Special Education teachers. The school setting for this study was at Racker Center in Cortland, NY. Through the interview questions, I retained so much valuable information and hands-on experience to share and use in my future career as an Educator.https://digitalcommons.cortland.edu/slides/1021/thumbnail.jp
