    No full text
The purpose of this lesson was to highlight the influence that campus involvement and leadership can have on student success. College is not just a place for academic growth; it is a pivotal phase in student’s lives, where they can learn valuable life skills. Effective leadership, whether through student organizations, faculty guidance, or mentorships, can inspire and empower students to achieve their full potential. It fosters a sense of responsibility, encourages self-motivation, and cultivates the ability to work collaboratively with others (Caruth).https://digitalcommons.cortland.edu/cor101posters/1030/thumbnail.jp

The Wellness Wheel and SMART Goal Setting

    No full text
The topic I chose to teach was about the Wellness Wheel and how to set SMART goals. The lesson involved students using the wellness wheel to find their level of wellness in different areas of life, followed by their using that information to set a goal that is specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time frame specific (SMART). According to Burning (2013), “entering college is one of life’s major events” and adjusting to college includes development within realms such as academic, emotional, and social (p. 29). This transition to college can be hard for many students, and for some, this can translate to experiencing lower levels of wellness, so I thought it imperative to allow students time to find and reflect on their wellness. Furthermore, I combined this lesson on wellness with a lesson on SMART goal setting because based on hundreds of studies, those with specific and difficult, yet attainable, goals perform better than those with easy, nonspecific, or no goal at all (Lunenburg, 2011, p . 1). Being able to evaluate personal wellness and set SMART goals is a skill that is important not only during the transition to college, but throughout a person’s life. The aim of my lesson was to raise students’ awareness of their well-being, as well as helping them in setting a goal to improve their wellness and in making a plan to achieve it.https://digitalcommons.cortland.edu/cor101posters/1026/thumbnail.jp

Does 5 Weeks of Training with the Tib Bar Device Improve Strength of Tibialis Anterior?

    No full text
Inflammation and lower strength of the tibialis anterior muscle has been associated with the development of shin splints (2). Shin splints are a common issue experienced by many people that mostly affect athletes and people in military. A device called the Tib Bar has recently been utilized in strength programs to strengthen the tibialis anterior muscle (1). However, no studies have experimentally assessed whether the Tib Bar is a beneficial device to train the tibialis anterior musclehttps://digitalcommons.cortland.edu/posters/1044/thumbnail.jp

    SMART Goals

    No full text
I wanted to create a lesson on SMART Goals because I believe goal setting whether it be personal, academic, or both is extremely important. The goals we set for ourselves are the foundation for our success. Specifically SMART goals help us to set clear and realistic goals. During college it can be very easy to get distracted and lose sight of the goals you set for yourself, doing this lesson I felt that my students were able to clearly identify what goals they want to achieve and explain what they will do to get there. During my research I found that studies show people who write down their goals are 42% more likely to obtain them.https://digitalcommons.cortland.edu/cor101posters/1009/thumbnail.jp

Scheduling and Time Management: How to Plan Your Days to Maximize Free Time

    No full text
The goal of this presentation was to offer different methods for first-year students to be able to schedule their days and maximize productivity while still having free time. I remember coming in as a freshman and not really knowing how to manage my time or schedule my days effectively because throughout my life, my schedule had always been run by my parents, coaches, or school. Time management training and help to reduced perceived stress (Häfner, 2015). I personally use every method I spoke about and mentioned several different ones in order to help students find what works for them. To prepare for my lesson, I gathered my content into six different sections and prepared a PowerPoint to present my findings and lessons. In my presentation I talked about methods such as time-blocking using a calendar app or paper calendar, the Eisenhower method of importance (Nevins, 2023), how to break up your weeks, how to create an efficient to-do list, and how to work around when you are most efficient.https://digitalcommons.cortland.edu/cor101posters/1021/thumbnail.jp
