What\u27s The Deal with Conspiracy Theories?
Get PDFThe usage of the word Conspiracy Theory isn\u27t anything new. In fact it is a word used widely in today\u27s society. But what is a conspiracy theory, how are conspiracy theorists and believers viewed in the public eye, and what about conspiracy theories do people find so alluring? The common notion of conspiracy theories are that they are inherently wronged, that history just happens. That people are wrong for trying to connect dots that aren’t there and are a result of un-informed, ill-educated people lacking skeptical and critical thinking skills. In testing this notion I examined two conspiracy theories, one proven and the other un-proven. The proven conspiracy I examined is MK-Ultra in which I focus specifically on how it was proven to be true. The un-proven conspiracy theory I examined is the conspiracy theory of Reptilian Elites in which I focus on the tactics used by David Icke that garnered the mass following of believers it now has. Synthesis and Characterization of Interpenetrating Polymer Networks
No full textA series of interpenetrating (IPN) and pseudointerpenetrating polymers (PIPN) were synthesized. Poly (p - phenylene oxide) was used as the foundational material and other monomers were added to create the IPN and PIPN. These materials are of interest as they are currently used in many products including consumer electronics and automotive parts. The physical properties of these materials can be designed / controlled by selectively adding a second monomer to the PPO to form an IPN or PIPN creating a hybrid that retains many of the desirable properties of pure PPO. The networks were synthesized by mixing polymers with monomers and by starting from monomers and then polymerizing in situ. The compositions of the networks were based on weight percent of each polymer used in the mixture. The relationship between social cognition and team cohesion in collegiate athletes

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between social cognition and team cohesion in Division III collegiate athletes. Methods: A total of 103 athletes from SUNY Cortland participated. Two questionnaires were used: social cognition was assessed via the Tromsø Social Intelligence Scale (TSIS), and team cohesion was assessed via the Group Environment Questionnaire (GEQ). The two questionnaires, along with demographics, were completed online. Analysis: Pearson’s bivariate correlations were analyzed to assess the relationships among TSIS total score, GEQ total score, and GEQ social cohesion for the total sample and separately by sports season and sports type. Linear regressions were conducted on the cohesion/social cognition relationship based on sports season and type. Chow tests were performed to determine any structural break for sports season and sports type on the cohesion/social cognition relationship. Independent samples t-tests were evaluated to determine differences in average scores for social cognition, team cohesion, and social cohesion between sports seasons (in vs off season) and sports types (individual vs team sports). Conclusion: The social cognition/cohesion relationship was present in sports at a Division III university. These findings establish a foundation for further investigation of the insufficiently researched socio-cognitive relationship in sports
Color Psychology: how colors can reflect our emotions in relation to gender, age, and cultural background.
Get PDFOur lives are surrounded and influenced by colors. Colors help us in our everyday lives, from helping us understand different concepts to helping us drive around town with road signs and streetlights. Colors regulate our lives not only physically but also, especially, psychologically. Warm and bright colors can give insight intoenergy and happiness. On the contrary, cool and dark ones can be soothing and calming.
Research has demonstrated that colors can shape our experiences and affect our psycho-emotional status (our mental state related to a situation or circumstance). To demonstrate the link between our psycho-emotional state and the use of color, qualitative and quantitative data will be used in my research todecode the emotional association of color and its relation to gender, age, and nationality. After generating a short survey among American and International students at SUNY Cortland, the data will be studied and selected to design an infographic to visually understand the link between the use of color and different cultures, emphasizing how the perceptions of some colors have universally changed.This research will focus on different cultures and how people of diverse backgrounds (White/Caucasian, Hispanic, Asian, African American, American Indian) react to colors, which influence their emotions and actions today
Prevalence of Mental Health Issues in Division III Athletes
Get PDFCollege athletes have always struggled with their mental health, and it has recently become more widely recognized because of their lifestyle. Between managing schoolwork, team responsibilities, and having a social life, it is extremely easy to become overwhelmed and put other things before one’s psychological health. In this study, the SUNY Cortland Women’s Basketball team was surveyed to determine if depression, anxiety, and stress are prevalent in athletes at SUNY Cortland. The DASS-21 questionnaire was distributed to each of the women’s basketball athletes. This 21-question survey produced scores that determined whether they are experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, and/or stress. The purpose of this study was to determine whether mental health is an issue for SUNY Cortland athletes. It was found that Division III athletes do struggle with their mental health and support is needed to manage personal pressure and schoolwork to prevent their mental health struggles. Future studies are needed in larger samples to support our findings

I used a PowerPoint to convey this message to my COR students. This is important for first year students to know because college can be stressful, getting out and resetting is critical!
