    No full text
My poster is about the first lesson I taught, which was stress relief. In my presentation about stress, I included ways to cope with stress, why college students are so stressed, and some statistics about stress levels in college students. It is so important for students to learn where their stress is coming from and how to handle it, which is why I wanted to give a thorough presentation about it.https://digitalcommons.cortland.edu/cor101posters/1064/thumbnail.jp

    Connecting Through Clubs and Organizations

My presentation, “Clubs and Organizations at SUNY Cortland,” aimed to introduce students to the diverse range of clubs and organizations available on campus. The presentation was designed to provide in-depth information and resources to help students navigate and explore opportunities for involvement. Many incoming students feel shy or hesitant to engage socially, I wanted my presentation to help build their confidence by highlighting how participation in clubs and organizations can enrich their college experience. Clubs, particularly sports clubs, “Provide an environment for students to release stress, improve physical fitness, and associate with friends,” (Chang, 2020). Not only can being social help mental health but also physical health, “It has been suggested that physical health is partly dependent upon related social factors” (Anderson, 2018). By fostering connections and friendships, students develop a supportive network that helps reduce academic stress and enhances their sense of belonging within the SUNY Cortland community.https://digitalcommons.cortland.edu/cor101posters/1060/thumbnail.jp

Stay Sharp, Live Strong: A College Guide to Health and Wellness

    No full text
I chose to focus my topic on health and wellness because it is something I can personally relate to throughout my college experience. Through both research and personal experience, I have learned that health and wellness significantly impact a student\u27s overall academic performance. Unfortunately, I\u27ve witnessed many college students, especially during their freshman and sophomore years, struggling with their health and well-being. College is a major life transition that brings a great deal of stress on both the body and mind. Adapting to the demands of college involves navigating through many challenges, and it can easily take a toll on one\u27s physical and mental health. My goal for this presentation was to equip my COR-101 students with practical strategies for building healthy habits and to introduce them to campus resources that can support their well-being throughout their college journey. I am hopeful that giving them the necessary knowledge and tools to prioritize their health and wellness, will empower them to make positive choices, that will not only enhance their well-being but also contribute to their academic success in the future.https://digitalcommons.cortland.edu/cor101posters/1077/thumbnail.jp

The Next Step: Sport Management Professional Preparation

    No full text
The goals for this presentation for Sport Management first-year students will focus on fostering early awareness and implementation of essential skills and strategies needed to excel in the sport industry. Firstly, students should aim to establish a polished professional image through their appearance and maintain a consistent, strategic digital presence on platforms like LinkedIn and TeamworkOnline. This will enhance their visibility and credibility to potential employers. Additionally, students will learn to prioritize active engagement in campus activities to build hands-on experience and transferable skills. This involvement should complement efforts to develop robust resumes and cover letters tailored for competitive internship and job applications. Moreover, they should cultivate meaningful relationships through networking with professors, peers, and industry professionals. These proactive steps will prevent last-minute internship scrambles and ensure that by graduation, students have the necessary experience, connections, and confidence to succeed in their career pursuits.https://digitalcommons.cortland.edu/cor101posters/1081/thumbnail.jp

A Guide to Time Management Success

    No full text
Time management is the skill of organizing and planning how to divide time effectively among various tasks, which helps individuals accomplish more with less stress. By setting priorities, creating schedules, and managing distractions, one can maximize productivity and achieve a balanced lifestyle. This aligns closely with Self-Regulated Learning (SRL), a comprehensive framework that emphasizes active engagement in the learning process, where students take deliberate steps to manage aspects like cognition, motivation, and behavior to achieve academic goals (Cassidy, 2011; Panadero, 2017; Pintrich & Zusho, 2007). Effective time management means knowing how to allocate time not only to academics or work but also to self-care, relationships, and rest. SRL models highlight that students who actively manage these aspects experience greater academic success and well-being, as they work with structure and purpose (Boekaerts & Corno, 2005; Zimmerman, 2000). Practicing these skills can lead to a sense of control, reduced anxiety, and an improved capacity to handle responsibilities with clarity and confidence.https://digitalcommons.cortland.edu/cor101posters/1088/thumbnail.jp
