Die Bibliothek bietet uneingeschränkten drahtlosen Internetzugang sowie weitere Dienstleistungen an, die die üblichen Möglichkeiten kenianischer Bibliotheken bei Weitem übersteigen. Insbesondere die Möglichkeiten des Web 2.0 werden eingehend genutzt. Der Facebook-Auftritt der Bibliothek bietet sich als sehr nützlicher Kommunikationskanal zwischen Nutzern und der Bibliothek an. In Kenia ist Bibliothek 2.0 ein entscheidender Mehrwert. The Post Modern Library (PML) is an academic library at Kenyatta University in Nairobi. The library provides its users with unlimited wireless internet access and various other services which are far beyond the usual possibilities of other libraries in the country. Especially the possibilities of Web 2.0 are emphasized. The library’s facebook page is a very useful platform for communication between the library and the users. In Kenya, library 2.0 can make a big difference

Einerseits müssen für sie relevante Inhalte zur Verfügung stehen. Andererseits sollte es möglichst einfach und intuitiv möglich sein, diese Inhalte zu finden und auf sie zuzugreifen. Die Themen Usefulness und Usability sind daher für Bibliotheken von grosser Bedeutung. Der Beitrag beschreibt wie diese beiden Aspekte evaluiert werden können und wie Bibliotheken anhand von BibEval und PECI selbständig ihre Angebote überprüfen können.From the users’ point of view two aspects are essential for the quality of library online services. On the one hand, relevant content must be available. On the other hand, it should be simple and intuitive to find and to access this content. Therefore, the topics usability and usefulness are of great importance for libraries. This article describes how these two aspects can be evaluated and how libraries can use BibEval and PECI for assessments of their own services

Get PDFDOI: 10.12685/027.7-1-3-38Ausgehend von den USA ist der Trend zur Nutzerforschung mit Methoden aus der Ethnografie nun auch in Deutschland angekommen. Den Durchbruch brachte die Studie „Studying Students“ (2007) der University of Rochester, deren Ansatz des „Participatory Design“ inzwischen viele andere akademische Bibliotheken gefolgt sind. Auch im deutschen Sprachraum gibt es bereits Aktivitäten in diese Richtung. Wie eine Stichprobe der Autorin an fünf Bibliotheken zeigt, sind theoretische und methodische Kenntnisse der Nutzerforschung in der Fachcommunity jedoch noch nicht ausreichend verbreitet.Starting in the USA, user research carried out with ethnographical methods has reached Germany. The breakthrough-study “Studying Students” (2007) at the university of Rochester which used the “participatory design” approach has been perceived by academic libraries. However, user studies in general, let alone the implementation of ethnographic methods, are still impeded by the lack of theoretical knowledge and methodological skills among library professionals in Germany. At least, this impression is given by interviews the author conducted with directors in five different libraries

Get PDFDOI: 10.12685/027.7-1-1-12Schweizer Bibliotheken bekunden Mühe mit ihren Auftritten im Internet. Insbesondere ihre Facebook-Seiten werden nur ungenügend genutzt. Dieser Artikel stellt die These in den Raum, wonach der Misserfolg der Bibliotheken vor allem darauf beruht, dass sie die Handlungsweisen ihrer Nutzer nicht der Umgebung des Web 2.0 anpassen. Erst wenn sich Bibliotheken als gleichberechtigte Mitglieder einer Community sehen, kann beispielsweise die Nutzung von Facebook wirklich gelingen.Swiss libraries have difficulties with their web presence. Especially their facebook pages are not being used sufficiently. This article suggests that the libraries’ failure is due to false expectations of user behaviour in a web 2.0 environment. Only if libraries regard themselves as equal members of a web community, can their web 2.0 presence and especially facebook presence unfold fully
Sharing of Information and Cooperation among University Libraries and their Importance in the Networked World

In addition to visibility, materials should also be easily available, if possible, online. To achieve this goal, catalogues are essential tools for finding the desired information. It is equally important that libraries cooperate with each other and share their catalogues among them. In this context, participation of libraries in information networks is a positive alternative. Libraries should not be bound to their local book collection, but they also need to expand it through networks, so that they are able to borrow books or exchange documents with other libraries. University libraries need to create storage of local documents with open access to theses, dissertations, scientific research papers and their institutional memory. Although Brazilian university libraries have made significant progress in the provision of services using new information and communication technologies as well as by taking part in cooperative networks, it is necessary to see that libraries have reached various stages of development and we still have a long way to go.Bibliotheken setzen sich täglich mit der Frage auseinander, wie sie für ihre Sammlungen eine höhere Sichtbarkeit erreichen können. Zusätzlich sollten ihre Bestände am besten online verfügbar sein. Kataloge sind zur Erreichung dieses Zieles unerlässlich. Dazu müssen Bibliotheken vermehrt kooperieren. In diesem Zusammenhang ist die Bildung von Verbünden eine positive Alternative. Bibliotheken sollten nicht nur auf ihre lokalen Bestände fokussieren, sondern Verbünde bilden um Ausleihen aus anderen Bibliotheken zu ermöglichen. Universitätsbibliotheken sollten Dissertationen, Abschlussarbeiten, Forschungsergebnisse und Dokumente der Institution Open Access zur Verfügung stellen. Obwohl die brasilianischen Universitätsbibliotheken bereits grosse Fortschritte in der Anwendung neuer Informationstechnologien und in der Errichtung von Verbünden erzielt haben, befinden sich noch nicht alle Bibliotheken auf dem gleichen Entwicklungsstand
Das deutsche wissenschaftliche Bibliothekswesen jenseits der Bibliothek 2.0 – Zukunft jetzt gestalten
Get PDFoai:ojs.ub-ojs.ub.unibas.ch:article/10DOI: 10.12685/027.7-1-1-10Ausgehend von zwei unterschiedlichen Einschätzungen zur Bedeutung der Bibliothek 2.0 für das wissenschaftliche Bibliothekswesen, werden einzelne Aspekte dieses Ansatzes anhand von ausgewählten Beispielen (Auskunft, Informationskompetenz, Katalog, Kommunikation) kritisch diskutiert und ihre Bedeutung für die Entwicklung der deutschen Hochschulbibliotheken dargelegt. Darauf aufbauend erfolgt eine Zusammenstellung einiger wichtiger Herausforderungen vor denen deutsche Bibliotheken stehen und möglichen Lösungsstrategien (Erwerbung, Katalog, Lernort, Informationskompetenz, Auskunft, Metadaten, Organisation, Personaleinsatz, Ausbildung) für die bibliothekarische Arbeit. The starting point of this article are two different appraisals of the significance of the library 2.0-concept for academic librarianship. Specific aspects are critically discussed based on selected examples (such as reference, information literacy, catalogue, communication) and their impact for the development of German university libraries is outlined. On this basis the most important challenges for German academic libraries and possible solutions will be identified (concerning acquisition, catalogue, learning commons, information literacy, reference, meta data, organisation, staff assignment and professional training)

Allerorts generieren BibliotheksnutzerInnen mittels mobiler Endgeräte ihre ganz eigenen individuellen Räume und beteiligen sich gleichzeitig am Diskurs und sind somit Teil einer Community. Der vorliegende Beitrag zeigt Standorte und Perspektiven für die Vernetzung bestehender Bibliotheksräume zu einer zukunftsweisenden Bibliothek 2.0 auf und verweist auf die Bedeutung einer interdisziplinär angelegten Information Literacy. In the internet age, libraries experience new dimensions: they exist in physical, digital and virtual forms. With the help of mobile devices, library users generate their individual working environment. At the same time they are participating in discourses and thus become members of a community. This article outlines the current position and future perspectives for linking existing library spaces to a forward-looking library 2.0. Also, it points out the significance of an interdisciplinary information literacy
