Why are there No Great, Female, and Egyptian Scholars?
This essay is a study on the topics that Egyptian women shine their lights on. I write this because I identify as an Egyptian woman, and I never hear these women’s names during my scholarship. I hope readers receive a sense of individualism for the “othered” women who write their ways out of their binds. My topic is crucial because Egyptian women are bound to either sexism in their own culture and racism in others, which begs my theory of a third space
Behavioral problems and solutions for children with intellectual disabilities in physical activity settings - A review of the literature
The purpose of this synthesis was to review common behavior issues in children with intellectual disability, explore barriers and facilitators of participation in physical activity, and to find intervention strategies so children can participate successfully in physical activity. Of eighteen articles that were reviewed, thirteen articles were used to answer the research questions: one) what are the physical activity levels and motor skills of children with intellectual disabilities? two) what are the most common behavioral issues in children with intellectual disabilities? three) what are the facilitators and barriers to physical activity for children with intellectual disabilities? and four) what are the most effective strategies for managing behavioral issues in physical activity settings for children with intellectual disabilities? Results indicated that children with intellectual disabilities have significantly lower physical activity levels, and face many barriers that can prevent them from participating in physical activity. The barriers for students with intellectual disabilities to physical activities are lack of supervision, sedentary activities, social impairments, physical impairments, and a scarcity of community programs or resources. The strategies that help children with intellectual disabilities participate in physical activity are behavior interventions, family involvement and encouragement, choice of activities, participation in early intervention programs, playground interventions, after school programs

Forbidden Zone: Borden on the Borders of War and Gender
Mary Borden\u27s The Forbidden Zone is a starkly modernist approach to writing about The Great War and approaches it from a unique perspective - that of a female nurse on the edges of the front lines. Borden blends memoir, poetry and realism to inform her reader of the blurred realities of a war where borders between nations or people are often uncertain. Borden\u27s unique approach allows her to portray the otherwise incommunicable suffering of war and translate it into a photograph of her experience

Forever Plastics: Saving the Great Lakes (and ourselves) from America’s love affair with plastics
The Complete Forever Plastics Earth Day Project. The Forever Plastics invited exhibit was multi-disciplinary, collaborative project sponsored by The School of Arts and Science. Contributors include students enrolled in Spring 2019 classes in Art, Environmental Science and Ecology, and History. The physical display was exhibited at Drake Memorial Library, April-June, 2019
Rethinking Mathematical Proofs and the Opportunity to Learn
Mathematical proofs are conceptually difficult for many students and the perceived lack of relevance in terms of authenticity and practicality may result in feelings of apathy or indifference. Providing students with connections and applications of the process of proof-solving can help alleviate this problem. This curriculum project includes materials designed to supplement existing units on geometric proof. These materials are intended to provide teachers with opportunities for students to both frequently practice with components of mathematical literacy relative to proofs and to allow multiple opportunities for students to demonstrate growth and evidence of learning. Mathematical discourse amongst students is also strongly encouraged and fostered by this content. An additional component to the measurement of engagement is the use of a pre- and post-survey to be completed by students. These materials are an effective enhancement to curriculum and support the aim of improving students’ perspectives and understanding of proofs

Teaching a Geometry Unit on Solids Incorporating Blending Learning
This curriculum was developed to help teachers implement blended learning models into a unit on geometric solids. The curriculum incorporates group discussions, hands-on activities and virtual manipulatives to develop student’s conceptual understanding and mathematical reasoning. The materials are aligned with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and intended for a Non-Regents Geometry course
