TOXIC POSITIVITY: THE DYNAMICS OF INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION ON MEDIA X IN THE ERA OF CANCEL CULTURE

    Get PDF
This study aims to examine the dynamics of interpersonal communication on the Media X platform within the context of the phenomena of toxic positivity and cancel culture. These two phenomena represent a paradox of digital culture: on one hand, there is an incessant push for maintaining positivity, often dismissing the validity of negative emotions; on the other hand, there is the rise of collective cancellation practices that can create intense social pressure. This research employs a qualitative approach using a netnographic strategy, supported by content analysis of user-generated posts and interactions. Data were collected through digital observation, documentation of online conversations, and the use of Brand24 as a social media analytics tool. The findings reveal that toxic positivity is frequently normalised through phrases such as "keep your spirits up," which appear across various emotional contexts but tend to suppress more honest and complex emotional expressions. Simultaneously, cancel culture has evolved as a mechanism of collective moral control, often enacted without clarification processes or opportunities for restitution. These phenomena shape a communication landscape characterised not only by rapid and emotional exchanges but also by intense social and symbolic pressures. This study underscores the necessity for critical awareness and ethical communication practices within a digital ecosystem marked by polarisation. In conclusion, online spaces require a more reflective, empathetic, and inclusive communication approach to ensure that digital practices support emotional well-being and foster humane dialogue, rather than merely reinforcing image management

Mathematics is an essential subject in elementary education, with integers playing a key role as the foundation for more complex mathematical concepts. However, many students struggle to understand integers, particularly negative numbers and their operations. This study aims to analyze how prospective elementary school teachers represent the concept of integers and develop effective teaching strategies. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, involving 12 prospective teachers divided into three groups based on their understanding of integers. The primary instrument used was the modified Content Representation (CoRe) to evaluate how these prospective teachers represent and teach integers. The results indicate that most prospective teachers have a good grasp of basic integer concepts and frequently use number lines as a visual aid. However, some teachers still face difficulties in explaining negative numbers and their operations. The use of technology, such as interactive applications and educational videos, was recognized as an effective strategy for improving students' understanding. This study concludes that developing pedagogical skills in prospective teachers, particularly in teaching integers, is crucial to enhancing the quality of mathematics instruction at the elementary level

MATRIARCHY: DISTORTION OF THE CONCEPT OF EMANCIPATION IN THE HOUSEHOLD AND ITS IMPACT ON SOCIAL WELFARE

    Get PDF
Emancipation is often associated with the feminist movement to fight for women's rights and rejection of discrimination. Enforcement of emancipation is marked by the movement of women to erode patriarchy. Over time, the concept of emancipation underwent a shift in meaning, giving birth to a radical new understanding. This understanding is matriarchy, namely the extreme domination of women and the desire of women's groups to dominate other people in terms of thoughts, ideas, and even the life processes of other groups so that they accept their ideas. What's worse is that this matriarchal understanding is absorbed and applied in households which is very contrary to Islamic provisions. The analytical method used is descriptive qualitative analysis with a conceptual approach and a case approach. The results of the study indicate that there is a distortion regarding the concept of emancipation in the household, which creates matriarchy. The concept of matriarchy itself is not in line with Islamic teachings. The condition of matriarchy affects social welfare if in a family this understanding continues in the long term. As a result, there will be disputes that end in divorce so that social welfare cannot be felt in the family. The solution to overcoming this matriarchy is to understand each other's nature, and carry out the rights and obligations that have been ordained by God as well as possible
