From the information obtained from a detailed fiscal census dated 1483, as well as from the notarial documents of the period and from various municipal documents, diverse aspects of the life of the Jews of the city of Ávila at the end of the 15th century are disclosed, namely fiscal discrimination, demographic ratio, professional structure, high level of professional distribution among the Christians, the Jews and the Muslims of Ávila, and the masculine and feminine first names of this group. A hypothesis is also advanced to explain why the most numerous Jewish community of the kingdom of Castile gathered together in Ávila on the eve of their expulsion.
This study represents a necessary supplement to earlier editions prepared by F. Díaz Esteban (Sefer ´okhlah we ´okhlah, Madrid 1975) and B. Ognibeni (La seconda parte del sefer 'oklah we 'oklah, Madrid-Freiburg 1995). It contains the transcriptions and deciphering of 241 massoretic lists which are copied in the margins of Halle Manuscript Y b 4º 10. Though not belonging to the original 'oḵlah we ´oklah [manuscript tradition], these lists are of interest to massorah scholars for obvious reasons. Aside each list is an indication of parallel massoretic source texts (ben Hayyim, Ginsburg, Weil, Löwinger, Breuer, Cairo Codex). At article's end, the editor includes a register of list titles as well as a biblical verse index.

The demise of the Ottoman Empire and the subsequent rebirth of a new Greek nation in 1913, coming as a result of the end to The War in the Balkans, set the basis for understanding, in part, many of the problems which the Salonika Sephardic community confronted as it was absorbed by the victorious Greeks. The most salient of which were: 1) difficult societal relations between Sephardim and Greeks; 2) knowledge that they, the Sephardim, could also claim Spanish citizenship; 3) the desire to preserve Ladino and to improve their understanding of the Spanish language.

In the fifteenth century, Spanish-Jewish communities settled in the area of Béjar: in Hervás (province of Cáceres), Candelario, and La Calzada (province of Salamanca). Shortly before the 1492 Edict of Expulsion, the Duke of Béjar imposed light commercial sanctions or restrictions on the Jewish population of Candelario. It may be that after the Edict, Candelario's converso population dwelled in «El Barrio de los Perros» ('The Dog District').En el siglo XV se establecen comunidades hebreas en el señorío de Béjar: Hervás (Cáceres), Candelario y La Calzada (Salamanca).
