    For my Senior Project, I am creating my own version of Dropbox, a website where users can store files and items in a cloud using a simple user interface via the web. Users will be able to make their own account and store files in the website. When this presentation is made the files will be stored locally, as next semester I will be converting it all so that files are stored remotely in a cloud using AWS technology

    Compassion Fatigue and Burnout Within Oncology Nursing

    This literature review explores the correlation between compassion fatigue experienced by nurses on oncology units and how it contributes to nursing burnout. By exploring available research, both from qualitative and quantitative data samples throughout the years of 2019 to 2024 the research-based findings suggest that there is a positive correlation between oncology nurses experiencing compassion fatigue and burnout, resulting in premature resignation from the bedside nursing career. Oncology nurses experience an array of difficult situations throughout their shifts including patients coping with life-altering diagnoses, the switch from treating cancer to providing comfort care, the five stages of grief by the patients, families, and friends, as well as death. Having to cope with each different situation and then move on to the next patient in a short time during their shifts ultimately affects their ability to provide compassionate patient-centered care. These findings highlight the importance of looking at compassion fatigue closely and examining the interventions that may be put in place to prevent compassion fatigue from occurring and leading to burnout. Without intervention, the future of the oncology nursing profession and the care provided to their patients will be negatively impacted. This review will explore the options and provide insight into the most effective resolutions that can be offered to nurses currently dealing with this problem

    Surgery, whether elective or not, will almost guarantee some alteration to an individual\u27s activities of daily living acutely and at times chronically. Most non-elective operations and some elective operations will require an inpatient stay at a hospital, meaning that the patient will be required to stay on bed rest for a prolonged period of time. The first law of thermodynamics states that objects, or in this case people, in motion stay in motion and those who do not, do not. Our bodies rely on movement and ambulation to maintain healthy and vital circulation of venous blood from the lower extremities back to the heart. Our bodies also have a mechanism of expansion and compression of the rib cage to ensure adequate oxygenation of blood from the lungs. Research has shown that in order to heal we need oxygenated blood at the site of trauma to start the repair process of the tissues. Also, in cases of procedures on the lower extremities, the longer the joint or limb is isolated, the greater risk for flexion contractures. Through research we have concluded that early ambulation after surgery has many long term benefits that affect every system in the body such as gastrointestinal, pulmonary, and cardiovascular. All of these systems play a role in how well the patient is able to recover after surgery and the biggest impact to these systems is circulation. There are many other reasons that the absence of ambulation can detrimentally affect a patient\u27s health, but this is some of the many reasons that early ambulation postoperatively will help in achieving proper patient healing and ensure quicker rehabilitation times

    Treatment Options for Pediatric Leukemia Leukemia is the most prominent cancer affecting children and teens with treatment options still being researched. Stem cell therapy has emerged as a potential treatment option in addition to chemotherapy. This literature analysis explores two specific treatments for pediatric patients diagnosed with leukemia to examine how it impacts the improvement of patient outcomes. By reviewing existing research from 2019 to 2024, the analysis reveals that the combination of stem cell therapy with chemotherapy leverages the effects of both treatments. The combined approach of stem cell therapy and chemotherapy has been proven to improve remission rates and the overall survival of patients compared to chemotherapy alone. With this treatment, the chemotherapy destroys both healthy and cancer cells, while the stem cells restore the damaged cells. By incorporating stem cell therapy with chemotherapy, the number of healthy cells is increased, which enables higher doses of chemotherapy to be administered. This approach results in improved outcomes and reduces the adverse effects associated with the insufficiency of healthy cells. Despite the possible complications, these findings underscore the importance of integrating both therapies to strengthen treatment outcomes, while minimizing adverse effects and striving for safer interventions in the treatment of pediatric leukemia.     The Effect of Balanced V.S. Unbalanced Riders on Equine Heart Rate

    This study investigates the impact of rider balance on equine heart rate by comparing physiological responses in four horses when ridden by both disabled (unbalanced) and non-disabled (balanced) riders. Over two weeks, each horse will undergo controlled trials, with heart rate measurements recorded at three key points: baseline, during the ride, and post-ride. Behavioral observations will also be noted. The collected data will be analyzed to identify differences in heart rate patterns between rider groups, providing insights into equine stress responses and informing best practices in adaptive and recreational riding programs

    Interning as a Stormwater Monitor

    During the course of Spring 2025, I served at Lynchburg Water Resources as a Stormwater Intern. This internship allowed me the opportunity to explore the multiple divisions of the department associated with various fields of science such as chemistry, engineering, stormwater, stream restoration, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and more. The purpose of the internship has been for me to learn about what it is like working in a water quality and treatment department. I have learned how to complete stormwater outfall inspections, test the chemical makeups of water samples, and assist in outreach events and programs. Through shadowing current employees, I observed meetings among workers, training programs, and inspection protocols. This internship has been a help in deciding what environmental route I would like to take after college. My poster presentation will highlight my experience during my time as an intern, what I have learned, and how this has impacted my decisions for the future

    The focus of this project is to synthesize and characterize unique organometallic Palladium complexes with various Non-Natural amino acid (AA) ligands. We will describe our synthetic pathway and present and discuss Fourier-transform infrared, 1H and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance, UV-visible, mass spectrometry, and elemental analysis data. These compounds are expected to show both catalytic and biological activity; the final aim of the study is to evaluate their potential utilization in future medical applications with a primary focus on cancer treatment and antimicrobial activity, including evaluation via the Kirby-Bauer Disk Diffusion Susceptibility Test

    Transforming Primary Care: Innovative Post Graduate PA Training for Real-World Solutions

    The ongoing crisis in primary care demands innovative and scalable strategies to prepare and retain advanced practice providers. This article introduces the Primary Care Practitioner (PCP) Program, a conceptual postgraduate training model designed for certified physician associates/assistants (PAs) who aim to serve in underserved and rural communities. The program integrates advanced clinical training, leadership development, telehealth competencies, VR-enhanced simulation, and evidence-based strategies to promote provider resilience. Rooted in systems-based thinking and real-world applicability, the PCP Program culminates in capstone projects that encourage innovation in care delivery and population health. Aligned with national frameworks such as the HRSA Primary Care Training and Enhancement (PCTE) initiative and the Quadruple Aim, the PCP Program offers a replicable academic-clinical partnership model that bridges gaps in current PA postgraduate education. While still in the development and planning phase, the article presents a detailed structure for implementation, including curricular components, proposed competencies, and pathways for institutional adoption. The authors also propose a formal academic credential, PA-C, PCP, to recognize graduates of the program who have completed this structured, practice-based training in advanced primary care. This article aims to contribute a forward-looking model that can inform future efforts in PA education, address emerging workforce challenges, and support more sustainable, high-performing primary care systems

    Building Up Borders: Political Framing and Anti-Immigration Attitudes in Hungary and the United States

    In the Summer of 2015, the European Union was faced with an unprecedented immigration crisis. In response, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán unleashed a vigorous anti-immigration campaign, focusing on the cultural, security, and economic threats that Hungary would be burdened with. This was done through negative political framing, via Orbán’s speech acts, the governing Fidesz-KDNP’s political propaganda, and the government’s control of the media. Furthermore, since 2016, the United States has experienced its own issues with immigration. This topic became and has remained one of the most salient throughout Donald Trump’s three presidential campaigns. Like Orbán, Trump has used negative political framing via speech acts, propaganda, and supportive media. The question of this research is to determine whether Orbán’s negative framing influenced Hungarian society and led to increased anti-immigrant and xenophobic attitudes, or not, along with increased securitization of the state and normalization of border-line rhetoric; this goal remains the same for the section on the United States and Donald Trump. Throughout this research, the data, which is supported by qualitative information and examples, would suggest that anti-immigrant and xenophobic attitudes did increase as a result of both Orbán and Trump’s anti-immigration campaign
