A literary review of congruences and distinctions in the fundamental concepts of Siddha and Ayurveda
Siddha and Ayurveda system of medicine are important field of traditional medicine with Vedic and post Vedic origin in India. Both the system of medicine were formulated by Noblemen who are known by different names like Sage, Rishi’s, etc. Siddha and Ayurveda systems of medicine have many similarities like humoral pathology (Thridhosham/ thrithodam), usage of herbs, and diagnostic methods to name a few and also few differences.Various Siddha and Ayurveda literatures were reviewed to document scientific and rationale diversities prevailing in Siddha and Ayurveda fundamental concepts namely Siddha maruthuvanga churukkam, Sushrutha Samhita etc. Based on the review of literature, some scientific diversities and rationales are prevailing in the Siddha and Ayurveda systems of medicine. Even though both the systems seem to be similar, all the basic concepts in the Siddha system comes under a single entity called 96 thathuvas. Whereas in the Ayurveda system of medicine, the basic concepts are not organized under a single entity. Association of Viharaj Hetus (External and Environmental Factors) with Shirahshool (Headache) – A cross sectional study
Background- Shirahshool (headache) encompasses all the aches and discomforts associated in the Shira(head) region and is described under the caption of Shiroroga in Ayurveda texts. Aharaj (diet related) and Viharaj (external and environmental) Hetus are the main causative factors for any disease; yet the external and environmental factors also play an important role in Shirahshool. Aim-To observe the role of Viharaj Hetus for their association with Shirahshool .Study Design-This cross sectional study was conducted amongst the pre diagnosed Shirahshool patients, both male and females from the age group 20-60 years, who were suffering for more than one year and get Shirahshool for more than 30 minutes every time. A structured, pilot tested questionnaire with 15 questions validated by scientific committee was used to collect the information. Statistical analysis- The collected data is qualitative Pearson correlation test and Chi square test is used to test the association between Viharaj Hetus and Shirahshool. P- Value less than 0.05; which was considered as significant association. Result- Amongst Viharaj Hetus, Shita Vayu Sewan (cold air exposure-external environmental factor) was present in maximum number of patients i.e. 40 %, Nidra Vega Vidharana (suppression of the urge for sleep) in 36%, Asatmya Gandha Sewan(bad odour) in 31 % of total Shirahshool patients. Conclusion- The highest incidence of Shiroroga based on chronicity (59%) is in between 1-5 years with the duration for 30-60 minutes and based on severity 46% with moderate grade of Shirashool. Exposure to cold air and suppression of urge for sleep are the causative factors found as important with respect to duration of exposure whereas anger was noted as major, immediate Hetu of Shirahshool. Pharmaceutico analytical study of Guduchyadi Avaleha - Modified form of Guduchyadi Ghrita
Introduction- Stuttering (Gadgada) word itself indicates the disease in which fluency of speech is impaired. It denotes the un-cleared speech (Avyakta Vak or Shabdha). In Vangsen Samhita, the group of 8 drugs with honey is cited for the treatment of stuttering entitled as Guduchyadi Ghrita. Palatability of Guduchyadi Ghrita is the major concern in the treatment of children to administer as most of children unlike it, so by keeping this in mind Avaleha formulation is prepared which is easily administrable. Guduchyadi Avaleha is a herbo-mineral confection which is prepared by using sugar as a base. This herbal compound is formulated by experienced Aacharya of Ayurved and is used in practice for stuttering. Though it’s a potent formulation; but no standardized reports are available for the manufacturing process of the Guduchyadi Avaleha or its preliminary physico-chemical profiles. Therefore, manufacturing standardize process of preparation and preliminary physic-chemical profiles of Guduchyadi leha was planned. Methods- The prepared lickable formulation was lay open for the analysis of pharmacognostical and pharmaceutical properties like as pH value, Microscopic analysis, loss on drying the sample, reading of ash value, etc. Results – After analysis of Pharmacognostical organoleptic study, loss on drying value, pH, Ash value, Water soluble extract, the result was shown. Conclusion –All the characteristic of formulation sample was observed and the result can be taken as standard value for guduchyadi avaleha
Formulation and Evaluation of Polyherbal Anti-Dandruff Shampoo
The Malassezia furfur fungal infection leads to dandruff formation. Dandruff cannot be fully eliminated but can only be effectively controlled. This study intends to formulate and evaluate the polyherbal anti-dandruff shampoo. The prepared formulation not only cleans the dirt and dandruff but also makes hair soft and lustrous and promotes hair growth. The formulation eliminates the use of harmful chemical ingredients that damages hair. The formulation uses various herbs like Neem, Bhringraj, Shikakai, Tulsi, Reetha, Aloe vera, Lemon juice, Orange peel, Ginger, Curry leaves, Hibiscus and other ingredients for preparing base shampoo which make an effective anti-dandruff formulation with smooth and shiny hairs, also provide conditioning and promotes hair growth. The formulated shampoo was subjected to evaluation parameters like visual inspection, pH, viscosity, dirt dispersion, surface tension, foaming ability, foam stability, antidandruff test and stability studies, etc. The major goal of the present study is to formulate and evaluate anti-dandruff shampoo for treating various hair issues. Dandruff is a common disorder affecting the scalp condition caused by yeast Pityrosporum. Dandruff cannot be completely eliminated but can only be managed and effectively controlled. Shampoo is a hair care product used for the removal of oils, dirt, skin particles, dandruff, environmental pollutants and other contaminant particles that gradually build up in hair. Herbal anti-dandruff shampoos were formulated using herbal based ingredients like Lemon Grass Oil, Neem oil, Henna, Aloe Vera gel and other ingredients for preparing base shampoo. The formulated shampoos were subjected to evaluation parameters like visual inspection, pH, viscosity, Percentage of solids contents, Dirt dispersion, Surface tension, Foaming ability and foam stability. The main objective of this study was to eliminate harmful synthetic ingredient from anti-dandruff shampoo formulation and substitute them with a safe natural ingredients
An Ayurvedic Management of Paroxysmal Supraventricular Tachycardia
Background: Paroxysmal Supraventricular Tachycardia is a type of Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) and is defined as intermittent SVT and typically presents with a ventricular rhythm of 160 bpm. The patient morbidity with paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT) is directly proportional to the frequency of episodes, and it can be life-threatening in patients with atrial fibrillation and ventricular pre-excitation. Its management depends and varies according to severity of the symptoms which includes long-term treatment to surgical procedure like catheter ablation. Case Report: A 26-year Female patient, who was a known case PSVT, approached with complaints of recurrent palpitations, chest discomfort with breathing difficulty, palpitation, lightheadedness and exercise intolerance. Conclusion: the patient was diagnosed as vataja hridaroga and treated with ayurvedic medicine for the duration of 3-4 months. With the help of ayurvedic medicines, patient is free from symptoms and chronic drug therapy
Role of Kushmand Paak in treating Male Infertility
ABSTRACT:
Objectives: To evaluate the efficacy of Ayurvedic herbal drug combination as a good and effective ability treatment on sperm production without any side effects on prolonged use.
Materials & methods: It was a self-control clinical trial study. In this study, we enrolled 40 patients having complaints of infertility. of age 25-40 years married for not less than 3 years. All these participants were advised to take 30 g of Kushmand Pak after mid meals with a cup of warm milk for 3 months. Sperm count, semen color, viscosity, and state were recorded before starting the treatment and after 3 months of completion of treatment.
Results: It was observed that ‘Kushmand Pak’ was accepted by all with no complaints about any side effects. Viable, active, and morphologically perfect sperm count was also increased to a significant level.
Conclusion: Kushmand Pak can be used to improve sperm count without any side effects on prolonged use.

An effective use of Ayurvedic management in case of Nail Bed Infection- A case report
Background: A Nail bed infection viz. also known as paronychia is very common condition found in people due to trauma, bacterial infection to the nail. This can be treated with systemic Anti-inflammatory and anti-biotic with Local anti-microbial ointment. In Ayurveda this condition is explained as Kunakha. This can be treated with use Leech therapy and various internal medicine and local application of various drug formulations. Objective: a. To use leech therapy in Nail bed Infection b. to apply ayurvedic treatment principle in Nail bed Infection (kunakha). Method: A case report of Nail bed infection cause due to Trauma to nail. Patient visited to ayurvedic clinic as her wound didn’t heal properly even after 45 days of conventional treatment. In Ayurvedic treatment management, 3 cycles of Raktamokshan and vrana dhoopna and Vrana ropan tail pichu were done on alternate day for 30 days. This local treatment supported with some internal medicine. Result: All this included treatment shows effective result in this patient. Conclusion: This case report concludes that Leech therapy and ayurvedic topical and internal medicine are found to be effective in case of Nail bed infection
A case study on effectiveness of bhavita churna of Asoka twak in Premenstrual Syndrome
ABSTRACT
Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is a disease characterised by manifestation of physical and psychological symptoms in females. It is a disorder of unknown etiology that recurs in the luteal phase of an ovulatory menstrual cycle. In Ayurvedic perspective, vitiation of tridoshas particularly vata can be observed in the pathogenesis of PMS. The Asoka - Saraca asoca (Roxb.) de Wilde has got vedanasthapana, pittakaphahara and sokanasana karma which implies that it can cure both somatic and affective symptoms. Bhavana includes processing of churna with liquid extracts to increase the potency. A clinical case of premenstrual syndrome has been selected to study the effectiveness of bhavita churna (processed powder) of stem bark of the drug. The treatment was conducted in the luteal phase (14 days prior to menstruation) for three menstrual cycles and a follow up was also carried out for another three consecutive menstrual cycles. There was significant reduction in symptoms as assessed through Premenstrual Syndrome Scale after 3 cycles of treatment when compared to before treatment. The effect sustained even after follow up. The Asoka - Saraca asoca (Roxb.) de Wilde stood as an effective drug for relieving physical and psychological symptoms observed in PMS.

Genotoxic, antigenotoxic and protective evaluation of Musalyadi churna by chromosomal aberration assay in Swiss albino mice
Ayurveda is an ancient science of life that uses a wide range of formulations or herbal compounds to treat various diseases. Each drug must be scientifically, pre-clinically, and clinically evaluated in order to gain global acceptance. As part of the safety evaluation process, regulatory authorities around the world require data on new drug genotoxic potential.MusalyadiChurna(MSDC) is a classical Ayurvedic formulation in herbal powder dosage form consisting of eight ingredients of herbal origin and indicatedin the treatment infertility. This herbal combination may be useful, however mixture of substances can be dangerous and genotoxic, causing harm to living cells\u27 genetic material and resulting in mutations that induce serious issues for the host, such as cancer and birth defects; consequently, genotoxicity testing is essential.The study aimed to evaluate the genotoxic, antigenotoxic and protective properties of MusalyadiChurnaagainst the bone marrow of albino mice. MusalyadiChurna\u27s genotoxicity were assessed using the "Mammalian Bone Marrow Chromosome Aberration assay," and the classical powder\u27s antigenotoxic and protective activities against cyclophosphamide-induced genotoxicity in mice were also assessed using the same assay.Mice were administered MusalyadiChurna orally for four weeks at a dose of 25 mg/25 g mouse. Cyclophosphamide was utilized as a mutagen, and a single dose of 50 mg/kg b.w. was given intraperitoneally (i.p.) 24 hours after the final dose of MusalyadiChurna in the pre-treatment regimen and 24 hours before the first dose of MusalyadiChurna in the post-treatment regimen.The chromosomal aberration assay revealed that the herbal compound formulation MusalyadiChurnaat 1000 mg/Kg body wt. had no genotoxic activity against the bone marrow of Swiss albino mice. Using the same experiment, the formulation demonstrated both protective and antigenotoxic properties against Cyclophosphamide-induced mutagenicity in mice.Further research should be to capitalize on MusalyadiChurna’s potential as an alternative source of natural compounds to treat genotoxic problems
Qualitative and quantitative screening of phytoconstituents and characterization of various extracts of Wedelia trilobata leaf extracts
The birth control pills (contraceptive) are safe, in some cases the combination of the contraceptive pill can increase your risk of health. The side effects include heart attack, stroke, blood clots, and liver tumors. In very rare cases, they can lead to death. The risk of health problems and side effects were minimal or no side effects recorded while using the herbal contraceptives. The present investigation was focused on the preliminary phytochemical analysis, UV-VIS spectrum and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectral analysis and HPLC analysis of Wedelia trilobata L. The leaves were extracted using soxhlet extractor with seven different solvent in the order of relative polarity (aqueous, methanol, ethanol, acetone, petroleum ether, benzene and hexane) the leaves of the plant of Wedelia trilobata L. were tested for the availability of alkaloids, glycosides, flavonoids, phenols, saponins, steroids, amino acids, tannins, terpenoids, quinones, anthraquinones etc. And the phenol, flavonoid and terpenoids were analysed quantitatively. The UV-VIS spectrum showed the peaks with the absorption for the seven solvents respectively. The FT-IR spectrum showed the presence of alcohols, phenols, alkanes, alkynes, alkyl halides, aldehydes, aromatics, nitro compounds and amines. With the HPLC results we confirm that the compound caryophyllene which was used as contraceptive now a days was present in the two extracts (aqueous and ethanol) The results confirm the fact that this plant possesses important bioactive constituents useful for our health, so further scientific investigation is needed to investigate the biological activities of this plant
