    A Comparative Pharmaceutical Study of Abhrasindoora by Traditional and Contemporary Method

    Background: Rasashastra is a Pharmacotherapeutics of Mercurial, Metallic, and Mineral preparations Abhrasindoora (AS) is a unique Herbo-Metallic-Mineral Compound, which is mainly indicated in respiratory diseases. Method: AS contains Dhanyabhraka (Bio-purified Black Mica Powder), Shodhita Parada (Bio-purified Mercury), and Shodhita Gandhaka (Bio-purified Sulphur) in equal proportion. These mixtures were subjected to trituration in Kharal till Kajjali formation (ABS-72 hrs) followed by impregnation of latex of Arka (Calotropis procera linn) (QS) (16 hrs) and Vatashunga (Ficus benghalensis linn) (QS) (15 hrs). Then Batch-A & Batch-B were prepared separately in Valuka Yantra and Electric Muffle furnace by maintaining mild (150 0C-250 0C), (150 0C - 300 0C) moderate (250 0C -400 0C), (300 0C -450 0C) and intense temperature (400 0C - 550 0C), (450 0C -650 0C) respectively. Observation: Batch A AS was prepared in 37 hours and the total yield of the product obtained was 54 grams. Batch B AS was prepared in 21 hours and the total yield of the product obtained was 25 grams. Jet black colour Kajjali of AS turned to dark red which was sublimated at the neck of Kachkupi. Conclusion: The yield of Batch A was more than Batch B but it took more time. Hence, the preparation of Kupipakva Rasayana in a sand bath should be done repeatedly to conclude it is a more economic and convenient process

    Research is most essential for professional development and growth of a sector particularly in the field of healthcare delivery. After more than 5 decades of expansive institutionalization ayurvedic education – learning and training – is faced with competitive capabilities. In a highly dynamic environment of career opportunities academic institutions are acquisitive to academic research for identity and sustainability. Academic research as a part of higher education in Ayurved has been a challenge due to several reasons, paradigm difference being the main. A pioneering effort undertaken by an Ayurvedic institute to improve its academic research performance with outsourced professional help had remarkable success. The activity driven by an expert with a change mechanism model with teacher, faculty as a focus, identified core issues and helped address it within the prevailing structure in a systematic manner. It innovatively developed measurable performance parameters for individual growth and outcome parameters for the institutional gains. It effectively helped bridge the gap between two parallel streams of principles and practices for research. The attempt elucidated the significance of academic research as an essential tool of learning and training beyond a mandatory requirement thereby evolving positive environment for research.     Characterisation of Shirashulahara Lepa – A Non-Codified  Formulation

    Background The Shirashulahara lepa is used in folklore medicine practised as preventive and curative healthcare need in Kerala. The present study was aimed to validate the traditional medicinal knowledge through pharmacognostical standardization.  Aim and objective: The objective is to create a Non-codified formulation called Shirashulahara lepa using two different approaches, and then analyze its properties and composition. Methods:The preparation methods of Shirashulahara lepa differ based on the base ingredient used. The first method involves utilizing Narikela taila (Coconut oil) while the second method involves the use of Beeswax. The Preparation of medicine has been carried out and the Physico-chemical parameters of finished lepa such as pH, Spreadability, Rancidity etc were performed as per API guidelines. Obseravtion: Detailed TLC fingerprint profile of methanolic extracts of the formulation and GC-MS of the selected Method has also been performed.     Effect of Shirodhara with Ksheerbala oil in stress induced insomnia (Anidra): A Case study

    Sleep is counted as one of the three pillars of a body. Any disruption from normal sleep patterns affects physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. Kapha Dosha is responsible for Vata\u27s sound sleep and aggravation, and Pitta Dosha is responsible for Anidra. Shirodhara therapy is among the widely prescribed Panchakarma procedures for treating Anidra. This is a case of a thirty-six years old male patient who was suffering from difficulty in falling and staying asleep along with associated complaints like excessive yawning, drowsiness, giddiness, heaviness in the head, body stiffness, and indigestion for a year. Covid 19 pandemic acted as a stress trigger in the patient. Signs of any other systemic illness were absent. The patient was treated with Shirodhara with Ksheerbala oil for fourteen days. The insomnia severity index score reduced from 15 to 5 after treatment and the associated symptoms grading score reduced from ten points to two points. Shirodhara therapy not only reduces insomnia severity index score but also improves the quality of sleep and provided relief to associated complaints

    Management of Vatakantaka (Plantar Fasciitis) with Agnikarma-A Case Study

    Acharya Sushruta explained that when a person walk on the irregular or uneven surface, vata gets localized and aggravated in khuda pradesha (Ankle joint) and produce pain in heal region known as Vatakantaka. It can be compared to Plantar Fasciitis.  Plantar Fasciitis is the one of the painful condition in heel that hampers daily activity. Plantar Fasciitis is caused due to repeated stretch and strain of plantar fascia resulting in injury and inflammation which produces heel pain. Plantar fasciitis is managed with analgesic and anti-inflammatory, intra articular steroid injection and surgically by plantar fascia release as per requirement, but such type of treatment increased hospital stay and high economical expenses. Sushruta mentioned agnikarma in management of Vatakantaka which can be done with less economical expenditure and minimum hospitalization. Agnikarma is used in this case study to assess its efficacy in relieving pain. 46 years old female complaints of right heel pain in first few steps in morning and pain relived after walking, and again pain developed after prolonged period of rest. Patient was treated by Samyak Bindu vat Agnikarma at ankle region in 4 sittings at the interval of 7 days, which given complete relief from pain.

    Diagnostic correlation of elemental derangement findings through Panchapatchi sasthiram (Five bird diagnostic sign) in patients of Madhumegam (Diabetes mellitus)

    Panchapatchi Sasthiram or five bird diagnostic methodology is one among the diagnostic methods that relies on the concept of Panchabootha theory. Panchaboothas are represented by five birds (Patchi) in Panchapatchi Sasthiram (five bird diagnostic sign) which helps in cost effective diagnosis of various diseases. Objective: To evaluate the representative Patchi & Humours associated with Madhumegam (Diabetes Mellitus) patients as per Panchapatchi Sasthiram (five bird diagnostic sign) during consultation. Materials & Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted among 100 Madhumegam patients reported in the OPD of Ayothidoss Pandithar hospital. Panchapatchi calculation is the methodology of identifying the relevant affected action corresponding to each bird which may be further correlated to identify the affected Panchabhootham and affected humour in turn based on the waxing and waning of moon. Results: According to Siddha text; Pithavatham, Vathapitham and Vathakabam are the predominant humours in madhumegam. Among 100 patients assessed by means of Panchapatchi sasthiram (five bird diagnostic sign), 32 patients had pithavatham, 26 patients had vathakabam, 14 patients had vathapitham, 18 patients had kabavatham, 5 patients had kabapitham, 5 patients had kabam and it is observed that 72% participants possessed where of Naadinadai (Estimated through Panchaptchi sasthiram (five bird diagnostic sign)) as per the madhumegam literature. Conclusion: The Naadinadai (pulse play) mentioned in the literature agrees more than 70% with that of Panchapatchi based estimation. Hence it is hypothesized that Panchapatchi sasthiram based humoral assessment can be further evaluated as it is found helpful in the estimation of Naadinadai in diabetes mellitus. More over by means of this tool we can diagnose a condition with contactless evaluation

    Microplate Alamar Blue assay for detecting anti-tubercular action of Albizia amara leaves

    Albizia amara (Roxb.) B. Boivin has been used historically for the treatment of septicaemia, malignancy, delirium, and convulsions. A decoction made from the bark is used to treat rheumatism, hemorrhage, and some bleeding disorders during pregnancy, as well as stomach pain and nasal issues. Albizia has active ingredients like flavonoids, alkaloids, steroids, phenolic compounds, and tannins, according to early phytochemical screening. Flavonoids and phenolic compounds have been shown to play an important role in anti-tubercular activity in previous research. This led us to investigate whether or not this herb possessed anti-tubercular properties. Mycobacterium tuberculosis was found to be sensitive to concentrations of Alamar Blue dye as low as 25 μg/ml when the anti-tubercular activities of petroleum ether, methanol, and an ethanolic extract were tested. The anti-tubercular activity of the extract and fractions is comparable to that of streptomycin, pyrazinamide, and ciprofloxacin. HPTLC has shown that flavonoids and phenolic substances are present, which may explain the activity that can be seen. Taking this research on Albizia amara leaves one step further could lead to the development of a natural medicine that fights TB that is safe and works well.

    Role of Withaferin A in the management of breast cancer: A comprehensive review

    Background: Breast cancer is one of the leading causes for cancer mortality. The conventional treatments are being rprted for many side effects which affects quality of life of a patient. Novel therapeutic and preventative strategies from the medicinal herbs are needed to reduce suffering, disease free survival, and mortality from breast cancer. Withania somnifera L. Dunal (Indian winter cherry or Ashwagandha) from the Solanaceae family is an appealing medicinal plant widely investigated for its breast cancer potential. Ayurveda treaties explained various formulations using root of Ashwagandha. Modern science explained uses of root and leaf in extract forms. Withaferin A is a promising anticancer withanolides. This review is based on in-vitro researches of Withaferin A on breast cancer cell lines like MCF-7 cells, MDA-MB-231, SUM159, MDA-MB-468, SUM149,SUM159, 231MFP supported by its mechanism, in-vivo studies and clinical records. Material and methods: This review is based on various preclinical researches related to breast cancer. Moreover, this review represents the effect of Withaferin A on cancer cell. Various articles including studies and description of Ashwagandha were reviewed using databases namely Google Scholar, PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus. Result:Withaferin A significantly arrests the growth of many breast cancer cell in vivo and in vitro. Conclusion: Ashwagandha is a commonly available, cost effective natural medicine,possess  anti-cancer potential.     Integrative Approach on Post COVID-19 and Infertility: A Literature Review

    Introduction: Post COVID-19 Syndrome is term given to multitudinous health impacts that persist more than four weeks after being infected with SARS CoV-2. Viral infections are one of the causative factors which lead to infertility by affecting the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal, gonad axes. Covid-19 can be corelated with Janapadodhwansajanya Vyadhi and Abhishangaja Jvara while Post COVID-19 can be corelated with Jeerna Abhishangaja Jvara. Methodology: Information for present review is compiled from classical texts of Ayurved with commentary and variety of scientific search databases including Google Scholar, NCBI, PubMed and Science Direct by using keywords like Post COVID-19 infertility, Ayurved and Post COVID-19 infertility etc. Articles studied in detail after screening for relevancy to synthesize qualitative review. Result: The result reviewed on semen analysis, Renin angiotensin system, sperm DNA and morphology, cytokine storm, oxidative and mental stress. This review also illustrates the reproductive organ histology related to inflammatory responses, receptors like ACE-2, TMPRSS2 etc., various cases reported like orchitis, irregular menstruation, premature birth, caesarean delivery etc. due to SARSCOV-2 exposure. This showed association between Long COVID and infertility. Discussion: Information discussed are focused on various study conducted on impact of COVID crisis related to various infertility parameters associated with Long COVID. Due to Jirna Avastha of Jvara (~Fever persists after 21 days from onset), Uttarottar Sapta Dhatu Dushti occurs which ultimately can land up in Dushti of Shukra Dhatu, Shukravaha Strotas and Aartavavaha Strotas (~Reproductive system). The integrative approach of Ayurvedic management will be beneficial in such cases

    Clinical Evaluation of Pleurotus florida (White Oyster Mushroom) – Chatraka in the management of Vitamin D deficiency

    Oyster mushroom (Pleurotus florida) commonly called in India as \u27dhingri\u27 develops spontaneously on dead and rotting wooden logs or sporadically on dying trunks of deciduous or coniferous trees in temperate and tropical woodlands. On exposure to sunlight or UV lamp, oyster mushrooms produce concentrations of Vitamin D that are nutritionally significant. Though long periods of storage and different types of cooking tend to decrease the vitamin D level of UV-exposed oyster mushrooms, the vitamin D level in all probability expected to remain at 10ug/100g fresh weight, which is greater than the amount in the majority of foods containing vitamin D and comparable to the recommended daily intake of vitamin D at the global level. Eligible candidates (n=50) were screened by computerized randomization method to receive Pflorida soup during the 03-month study.
