Management of Infertility caused by Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD) - A Case Report
A 29-year-old Indian woman who is a housewife and has PCOD as her primary cause of secondary infertility from 5 years, has also complained of irregular menstruation cycles and occasional constipation over the same time period. Her ongoing hormonal treatment had included investigative procedures including diagnostic laparoscopy, USG, and HSG, all of which had yielded negative results, and she had ultimately been recommended for IVF. Due to her ongoing hormone treatment, she had to deal with side effects like weight, hirsutism, stress, discomfort, and more. Her prolonged hormonal treatment had resulted in adverse effects like weight, hirsutism, stress, discomfort, etc. According to Ayurveda, PCOD symptoms point to the involvement of Kapha and Vata dushti, which leads to avarodha in Artavavaha srotasa. Virechana is advised in the classical texts of Ayurveda for Yonidosha (gynaecological diseases), while Erandamooladi basti is recommended for balancing Vata dosha. It was successfully treated by Ayurvedic management with Virechana and Basti from Shodhana chikitsa (total 18 days) and Shamana chikitsa (total 21 days), which has produced positive outcomes
Cananga odorata (Ylang-Ylang) modulate pathways involved in cancer: Gene set enrichment and network pharmacology approach
Traditionally, Cananga odorata Hook. F. & Thomson (Ylang-Ylang) is commonly used to treat various diseases and has been assessed for anti-cancer potency in experimental animal models. However, the affinity of its phytocompounds with multiple proteins involved in the pathogenesis of cancer has not been illuminated yet. The present study was framed to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of Cananga odorata for its anticancer activity via compound-gene set pathway enrichment analysis, network pharmacology, and docking studies. Initially, phytocompounds were retrieved from herbs databases and literature. Structural information of each compound was obtained from the PubChem database. Druggable characteristics and side effects were predicted using MolSoft and ADVERpred. ADMET profile was predicted using PreADMET online server. Possible target proteins of each compound were predicted by BindingDB (p≥0.7). Compounds modulating the target proteins associated with the cancer were separated based on the successful and approved targets available in the Therapeutic Target Database. STRING and KEGG pathway database was used to analyze the molecular pathways modulated by the protein targets. The interaction between compounds, proteins, and pathways was constructed by Cytoscape 3.6.1, and docking of compounds with protein target was performed using AutoDock 4.2. Among 26 compounds, 12 phytocompounds were identified to modulate 34 pathways associated with cancer. 4-hydroxy-5,6,7-trimethoxyflavanone and Reticuline showed the maximum interactions with proteins involved in cancer. All 12 compounds obeyed the rule of five and p-methoxybenzaldehyde scored the highest drug-likeness score. Micheline A and Anonaine showed the highest binding affinity with Ubiquitin-protein ligase E3 (MDM2). The current study provides the molecular documentation of phytocompounds from Cananga odorata in the regulation of multi-proteins and pathways associated with progression of cancer (mainly Gastric, Melanoma, Prostate, and Breast cancer), which can be further investigated via wet-lab protocols
Efficacy and safety of Vicia faba L. extract compared with levodopa in management of Parkinson’s disease and an in‐silico phytomedicine analysis
Background: Parkinson’s disease is a chronic degenerative disease of the central nervous system, presently lacks an effective therapy for its complex pathogenesis. Agents containing Levodopa can alleviate its symptoms. Hypothesis Vicia faba L. (Fava bean) extract may prove a useful antiparkinsonian agent similar to Levodopa. Methods: Thirty patients with Parkinson’s disease, entered into this cross over clinical study. In the first step, each participant received V. faba L. extract containing 106.5 mg of Levodopa. After a wash out period of 7 days, the patients entered the second step during which they received conventional treatment with Levodopa-C tablets. Blood Levodopa were measured 4 hours and 8 hours after each administration. The Movement Disorder Society-Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale was employed to measure the therapeutic effects in each step. Additionally, a docking analysis was performed to distinguish the chemical constituents of the plant and six key mediators actively involved in Parkinson disease. Results: The fava bean extract significantly alleviate all studied end points except for tremor at rest and freezing. Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test showed that there was not a significant difference between rigidity, rising chair, gait and bradykinesia. Docking results of the herb components and standard ligands, indicating that the antiparkinsonian activity of V. faba could presumably be related to many phytochemicals. Conclusion: This study showed a beneficial effect of V. faba L. similar to Levodopa-C. and better compliance due to lower adverse events
An open non randomized clinical trial to evaluate the effectiveness of Tachyspermum ammi powder - Oma chooranam in the management of moolam (Internal hemorrhoids) among out-patients attending Ayothidoss Pandithar Hospital, National Institute of Siddha, Chennai
Background: Hemorrhoid disease is the fourth leading out-patient gastrointestinal diagnosis in world wide. It arises from congestion of the internal and/or external venous plexuses around the anal canal.
Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the therapeutic effectiveness of siddha herbal formulation Oma chooranam in the management of moolam (Internal Hemorrhoids) patients through proctoscopy and Hemorrhoid Symptom Score (HSS) before and after treatment.
Materials and Methods: This study was an open non randomized clinical trial and it was was conducted after getting Institutional Ethical Committee clearance. Patients (N=10) diagnosed with moolam (internal haemorrhoids) using proctscopy results, were enrolled in the study over a period of 6 months (from February 2022 to August 2022). Each patient received 3grams of Oma chooranam mixed in warm water twice a day, for 24 days and patients were followed up for 2 months. The main outcome measure of this study was efficacy assessment, which was measured by using Haemorrhoid Symptom Severity scores(HSS Score) on Day-0 (baseline) and 25th day.
Result and conclusion: Biostatistical p value using Wilcoxon signed rank test of HSS scores before and after treatment is less than 0.05. There was significant reduction in clinical symptoms having p value is 0.01 and hence it is clear that “Omachooranam” for the management of hemorrhoid the treatment was effective and significant.

An in vitro study of cytotoxicity of organophosphate insecticides (Imidacloprid, Profenofos, Dichlorvos) and natural products (Neem oil and Dashparni ark) on human peripheral lymphocytes by MTT and Trypan blue assay
It is a well-known fact that the human population of India is increasing very fast. Everybody needs food to survive. Agricultural products must be boosted by adding adequate fertilisers and using appropriate insecticides. Organophosphates are one of the most frequently used insecticides. Their overuse leads to soil contamination by agricultural runoff. The insecticides may enter drinking water as well. Since organophosphates are acetylcholinesterase inhibitors, they can be dangerous for human health if abnormal amounts are present in drinking water or are consumed as residues on fruits and vegetables. Hence, a toxicity study by MTT and Trypan Blue Assay of three common insecticides (Imidacloprid, Profenofos, Dichlorvos) and two natural products (Dashparnik ark and Neem oil) on lymphocytes was taken up. The insecticides were used at concentrations of 1mM, 4mM, 8mM and 12mM. It was found that at 4 hours of incubation at 1mM Imidacloprid showed the greatest drop in viability followed by Dichlorvos and the least harm was caused by Profenofos. The drop was consistent and dose dependent in the case of Profenofos, whereas at a higher concentration the viability generally increased. For 18 hours of incubation, the same trend was observed, but the decrease and increase were more pronounced. In the case of Profenofos and Dichlorvos the viability percent rises above that of the control. It was probably due to the defense mechanism involving the P450 detoxification pathway of the cells, which is activated if they are exposed to a higher concentration of the damaging factors. This is also supported by other workers mentioned in the discussion section of this paper. The damage to the cells, as evident in the fall in viability, was of lesser magnitude when organic insecticides were used. In the case of Neem nano-drop emulsion, a significant fall in viability was noted only at 2mg/ml. However, it is not sprayed as a nano-emulsion because it is not particularly harmful. The fourth insecticide that was taken up for study was Dashparni Ark. In this case, at 5µl/ml of distilled water (obtained by dilution) very little damage was evident, but at higher concentration it boosted the viability. Apparently, the extract of leaves fermented in cow urine and cow dung was less damaging than that of other insecticides. Thus, organic insecticides are safer to use because they are ecofriendly and do not harm non-target organisms. This is written on the basis of MTT assay results
A narrative review on concept of Bala and immunity in Ayurveda physiology
Bala in Ayurveda physiology is a multidimensional factor that refers to physical and psychological strength and the ability produced in response to antigen exposure and resistance against the manifestation of disease. It has also been synonymously used for components providing strength, nourishment, and stability to the body such as Oja, Vyadhikshamatva, Balya, Sara, Balavriddhikara Bhava, Prakrita Sleshma. The Bala of a person is determined by a complex interaction of multifactor such as Balavriddhikara Bhava, Dhatu Sarata, Prakriti, indulgence in dietary and behavioural activities, inherent qualities, etc. Further, it has also been opined that the Bala of a person cannot be assessed by just observing his body physique, as it has been seen that a person having a well-formed body does not always have good strength. In contrast, a person with a lean body may have excellent stability. As the Bala of a person serves as an important criterion for assessment of the severity as well as prognosis of disease, there is a need for the development of objective parameters for its assessment and implication in clinical practices.
Evaluation of combined efficacy of Lodhradi lep with Khadirashtak kwath in Mukhdushika.
Background - Mukhdushika (Acne vulgaris) is burning issue among young generation. It gives inferiority complex in social life. There are lots of medicines for acne vulgaris but the results are not upto the mark. Our aim is to combat with Mukhdushika with simple herbal formulation. Randomised controlled trial is preferred for the study.
Methods – Aim: To evaluate efficacy of combination of Lodhradilep and Khadirashtak kwath in management of Mukhdushika.
Objectives:
To study the Nidanpanchak of Mukhdushika as described in Ayurveda samhita
To study the effect of combination of Lodhradi lep and Khadirashtak kwath.
Randomized control trial was conducted in two arms, Group A (Lodhradi lep) and Group B (Lodhradi lep with Khadirashtak kwath). 30 patients were selected randomly and Lodhradi lep was given for group A. 30 patients were selected randomly and Lodhradi lep with Khadirashtak kwath was given for group B.
Result – The group B shown significant result in all the signs and symptoms.
Discussion – The Z value was significant in all the objective criteria which shows Group B was more effective than group A in treating Mukhdushika.

Clinical Study of Maricha Kshaudra Yoga in the Management of Vataja kasa (dry cough)
One of the oldest holistic medicinal systems in the world is Ayurveda, which has explained comprehensive pathophysiology of different diseases along with its management. One of the most significant and typical respiratory conditions listed in Ayurveda is Vataja kasa. It is mainly characterized by shushka kasa (dry cough), swarabheda (hoarseness in voice), kshinabala (weakness), hritshoola (pain in the chest), parshwashoola (pain in flanks), udarashoola (pain in abdomen), shirashoola (headache), etc. Due to outside factors including population growth, contamination of the environment, industrialization, and urbanisation, it has a growing prevalence throughout time. It is one of the typical complaints and is also a symptom of many Pranvah strotasa (respiratory system) disorders. Classics of Ayurveda, has elaborately Kasa as a distinct disease with its diagnostic details and plan of management. Even though multiple options are there for its management, Maricha kshaudra yoga, prescribed by Sushruta Samhita was not yet tested. Therefore, an effort was made to research the effectiveness of Maricha kshaudra yoga, a trial medicine, in the treatment of Vataja Kasa. Data was collected on the first, seventh, and fourteenth days after the medicine was administered, and it was determined to have significant efficacy
Palmar dermatoglyphic profile in Jatyaandh - A Pilot Study
Background: Appreciable progress has been made to study and understand the associations between dermatoglyphics and numerous medical disorders, as a result of which dermatoglyphic analysis has been accepted as a useful diagnostic tool in many diseases particularly those are caused by chromosomal aberrations, which are frequently accompanied by distortion of patterns. Materials and Methods: The aim of this present work is to study the association between characteristic dermatoglyphic features in probands with jatyaandh due to congenital glaucoma compared with age sex matched control. Palmar dermatoglyphic analysis on 20 subjects was carried out. Dermatoglyphics prints were taken by ‘Ink method’ described by Cummins and Mildo, examined for Total Finger Ridge Count (TFRC), Absolute Finger Ridge Count (AFRC), (a-b) ridge count, atd, dat and adt angle (quantitative parameter) and Finger ridge patterns and their frequency (qualitative parameter). Further, statistical analysis is done to find the variations in the dermatoglyphic feature in both groups. Result: The mean values of TFRC, AFRC & atd angle were higher in case group than in controls. The mean value of a-b ridge count is lower in cases as compared to controls. The mean values of dat and adt angle of case group were almost same to that of control group. The highest pattern of distribution of whorls was found in cases whereas radial and ulnar loops are found in controls.
Comparative analytical evaluation of Pruthvisara taila prepared by two different methods
Background: Pruthvisara taila is Niragni snehapaka (Aditya paka taila). It is indicated in Kushta and Vruna, mentionedby classical text Chakradatta. AIM: An attempt was made to prepare Pruthvisara taila by two methods and analyse the difference between both the samples on the basis of organoleptic characters and physico-chemical parameters. Methodology: In pharmaceutical study, the Pruthvisara taila was prepared by both methods; Niragni (Aditya paka-sunlight as source of heat)and Sagni) using fire as source of heat) & in analytical study both the samples were subjected for physicochemical analysis like pH, Viscosity, Refractive index, Specific Gravity, Acid Value, Iodine value, Saponification Value, Unsaponifiable matter,Peroxide value and Rancidity. Results: Results of the study on the parameters assessed on the samples after preparation by both the methods;duration required for the preparation of Aditya paka Pruthvisara taila is 24 days and for Sagni Pruthvisara taila is 5 days.Viscosity of NPT(Niragni Pruthvisara taila) was 127.1497 and SPT (Sagni Pruthvisara taila) 89.3996, refractive index was 1.47807 w/w and 1.47607 w/w respectively. The specific gravity of NPT and SPT were 0.9142w/w and 0.8866 w/w respectively. Acid value is more in SPT (108.46 w/w) as compared to NPT (62.76w/w). Iodine value is more in SPT (245.34w/w) as compared to NPT (58.37).The SPT(222.75 w/w) sample has got more saponification value than NPT (200.75w/w). The unsaponifiable matter in NPT has 1.84% and SPT has 4.80%. Conclusion: Acid value indicates about the short shelf life of the drug, which was comparatively more in Sagni Pruthvisara taila than Niragni Pruthvisara taila, hence the early chances of rancidity are more in SPT.Percentage of saturated and long chain fatty acids are more in Niragni Pruthvisara taila when compared to Sagni Pruthvisara taila which was revealed through iodine value and saponification value. Hence the NPT is less susceptible to oxidation and rancidity
