A review of Kesha as diagnostic and prognostic tool in Ayurveda
Hair is one of the essential characteristic features which not only adds beauty to the person but also helps maintain normal physiological functions, especially by excreting sweat through the Lomakupa, which is considered one of the roots of Swedavaha Strotas. It also helps in thermoregulation, protection etc. It is Pitruja Bhava and is the Mala of Asthidhatu. Depending upon the Hair conditions, one can assess some of the underlying pathological status of the body. Aims & Objectives: Review the literature concerned with Prakruta and Vikruta Lakshnas of hairs in Ayurvedic classical texts for diagnosis and prognosis of the disease. Material and Methods: Material related to Hair has been collected from Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, Astanga Samgraha, and Ashtanga Hridaya along with respective commentaries available and data associated with a topic general at different journals and books. Observations: As Kesha is one of the factors which build up a person\u27s personality, Ayurvedic classics state the advantages of hair maintenance. In the present era, changes in lifestyle, food habits, excess use of shampoos, and hair dyes, lack of oil massage to Hair, pollution, stress and strain etc., may be the cause of different types of hair problems like Khalitya (Alopecia totalis), Palitya (premature greying of Hair) etc. Therefore a proper understanding of Prakruta Lakshanas of Kesha will help in understanding the Vaikrutha Avastha which will thus ease the line of treatment. Results: Thus, Kesha and Loma play an essential role in diagnosing the Prakruta and Vaikrutha Lakshana and help in the prognosis of the disease.
An observational study of endometrial vascularity in implantation
Background: According to Ayurveda, Ambu is one of the four essential factors of Garbhasambhav Samugri for formation and development of the embryo. The word Ambu means nutrients essential for formation and growth of embryo which it receives from mother. According to modern science, during implantation, embryo receives its nutrients from endometrium. Though some women have normal endometrial thickness, normal endometrial pattern, normal endometrial morphology, still they are unable to get impregnated. During peri-implantation period of menstrual cycle, endometrial vascularity has major role in implantation of fertilised egg and also further growth of foetus. Objectives: The objective of this study is to evaluate implantation rates in women having endometrial vascularity upto V1, V2, V3, V4 zones. Material & Methods: Anonymous data of endometrial vascularity by transvaginal colour doppler ultrasound examination done, on the day of rupture of follicle of menstrual cycle, on 160 women, willing to conceive, has been collected from gynaecologist. And also, her status whether she was implanted or not implanted was collected from the gynaecologist. Data about her pregnancy status upto 20 weeks were collected. From this collected data, results regarding endometrial vascularity were derived. Results: Implantation rate in cases having vascularity upto V1 zone, upto V2 zone, upto V3 zone, upto V4 zone were 0 %, 8.33 %, 25 %, 30.5% respectively. Conclusion: Implantation rate is greater in cases having vascularity upto V3 and V4 zone than V1 & V2 zone. Endometrial vascularity is an important factor for implantation of fertilized egg and also for further growth of embryo.

Materials and Method: A total 80 patients of the age group 18-40 years presenting with signs and symptoms of Lohitkshaya Yonivyapad w.s.r to hypomenorrhoea were selected randomly from OPD of the department of streerog Prasutitantra. The 40 patients of trial group were treated with Tilashelukarvi kwath and 40 patients of control group were subjected to Shatapushpa churna. Results: Both treatments were equally successful in boosting blood flow during menstruation. Therefore, we draw the conclusion that the effects seen in both groups are noteworthy.
Correlation of Hand Index with Prakriti: A Cross -Sectional Study
Introduction: Based on the measurements of the body, the constitution and physique of an individual can be classified as ectomorph, mesomorph, and endomorph body types (somaotypes). Similarly, the knowledge of anthropometry can be made applicable in the assessment of Deha Prakriti, described in Ayurveda. Somatometry, a division of anthropometry includes direct surface measurements of the human body by scientific methods. Analysis and comparison of the absolute measurements of body parts do not give a precise idea about the individual typology of the subject, so it is necessary to work out the relevant indices, so variation in hand index between the different groups of dominant Prakriti has been observed. Methodology: Two hundred apparently healthy male individuals of age 18-40 years were registered from the population residing in Delhi. Prakriti of the study participants was assessed through the questionnaire. The length and breadth of both the hands were measured by the digital sliding caliper. The hand index is calculated as the percentage of the breadth of hand to the length of hand. The difference in the values of the hand index in different groups of dominant Prakriti was statistically analyzed by appropriate statistical tests. Result: The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis showed the value of right hand index in different dominant Prakriti as Vata dominant <= 41.344, 41.344 < Pitta dominant < 43.930, Kapha dominant>=43.930, whereas in left hand, the value of hand index in Vata dominant <= 41.895, 41.895 < Pitta dominant < 43.687, Kapha dominant>=43.687. Conclusion: There are significant differences in the hand index among different Deha Prakriti.

Development and Validation of UV-Spectrophotometric Method for Estimation of Vinpocetine in Marketed Formulation and Nanoformulation
A quick, accurate, and cost-effective UV spectroscopy method was developed to estimate the Vinpocetine concentration in bulk, tablet dosage formulations and niosomes formulations, using a solvent ratio of (6:4) methanol: water. According to ICH guidelines, the proposed technique was validated and developed. In spite of linearity, precision, accuracy, specificity, LOD, and LOQ, like parameters were validated by using UV/visible spectroscopy technique to analyze a spiked Vinpocetine solution. The wavelength at which the drug\u27s maximum absorbance peak was obtained at 274 nm and the solvents used as methanol: water (6:4 w/v). The ethanol injection technique was used to prepare niosomes to analyze Vinpocetine in UV / visible spectrophotometric method.During the inter and intra-day studies, it was discovered that the developed UV technique was accurate, with % relative standard deviation ranging from 0.27 to 0.46 and 0.26 to 0.46, respectively. Vinpocetine overall recovery percentage was discovered to be between 98.42 to 99.82 %. LOQ and LOD were calculated to estimate the method\u27s sensitivity, and they were observed to be 0.4565 µg/ml and 0.1506 µg/ml, respectively. The estimation of Vinpocetine content in bulk form, marketed formulations and niosomes was achieved using the developed methodology. : A quick, accurate, and economical UV spectrophotometric method has been developed. As a result, the suggested UV spectroscopic technique has been developed to estimate the vinpocetine concentration in bulk, tablet dosage formulations, and niosomes formulations
Purgation therapy (bhedhi) in the treatment of Trigeminal neuralgia and evaluation using Siddha diagnostic tool neerkuri and neikuri – A Case study
Siddha science is an immortal science, which has its origin from ‘Siddhars’. The Siddha system is mainly based on the humoral theory. The three humors namely Vatham, Pitham and Kapham. Any increase or decrease in the ratio of the three humors causes disease in the human body. In the Siddha system of medicine, diseases are classified into 4448 in number. Out of these Yugi Munivar classified Vatham as 80 types. The symptoms of Trigeminal Neuralgia come under this Vatha classification. The elevated Vatham is decreased by giving purgation therapy based on the quote ‘Bhedhiyaal Vatham Thaalum’. Agasthiyar Kuzhambu is one of the best commonly used purgative medicine in the Siddha System.Trigeminal neuralgia is one of the painful disorders involving the fifth cranial nerve and causes severe unilateral pain in the face over regions supplied by the branches of the trigeminal nerve[5]. The present study is conducted to know the efficacy of Siddha Purgation Therapy for the management of trigeminal neuralgia on the basis of the quote “Bhedhiyaal Vatham Thaalum”. A female patient of 56 years, diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia approached our hospital and got purgation therapy using Agasthiyar Kuzhambu for 3 days. Patient complaints were assessed before and after treatment with 1) Siddha diagnostic tool neerkuri and neikuri, 2) Questionnaire about increased Vatha symptoms and 3)Visual Analog Scale (VAS) pain scale. After giving Agasthiyar Kuzhambu follow up the patient she got relieved from their symptoms and got satisfactory results with the Siddha line of management. The possible understanding of the case and therapeutic protocol in Siddha has been discussed
