    Role of Pippali Rasayana in improving lung function in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

    ABSTRACT- Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a chronic, recurrence condition, prevalent in the general population. In modern medicine, treatment modalities are aimed to reduce the frequency and severity of exacerbations of the clinical features. now a day in ayurveda pippali rasayana being considered as a promising treatment approach for COPD. Due to methodological limitations, there is no strong evidence to support the pippali rasayana.   methods: 60 Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease patients (30 in each group) who met the inclusion criteria were chosen for the current study. Group A (Interventional group) received treatment with Pippali Rasayana (2.5 gm once a day in morning), whereas Group B (control group) received treatment with Cap Placebo (Starch powder) (250 mg once a day in morning).  Both groups received the medicine prescribed by pulmonologist. Results:Both groups\u27 subjective and objective parameters significantly improved throughout the course of treatment. However, the Interventional group showed superior improvement. Conclusion: The study offered solid support for the effectiveness and security of pipali rasayana when used as an adjuvant therapy along with modern medicine treatment is more effective in reducing the symptoms of COPD

    Sthaulya {Obesity}is one among the major disease of modern era, In today’s society majority of people are having sedentary life style, hectic schedule, which leads to various metabolic disorders and obesity. The most important cause of obesity is an energy imbalance between the calories expended which leads to the accumulation of fat. About 13% 0f the worlds adult population (11% men and 15% women in 2016. Obesity may be defined as an abnormal growth of adipose tissue resulting in more than 20% excess of expected body weight. Obesity is often expressed in terms of body mass index (BMI). Atisthaulya is considered as one of the Ashtanindit purush as described by Acharya Charaka.. Keeping in view, this burning problem of present era and its associated devastating diseases, it has been decided to do research on sthaulya with certain Ayurvedic classical remedies hence keeping is these points in mind this topic is selected for study. Here the humble attempt had been made to provide better management of sthaulya by administering Pathya Ahara

    Effect of Ayurveda Protocol (Nasya, Pindi, Bidalaka & Anjana) in Intra Ocular Hydrops – A Pilot Study

    Normal Intra Ocular Pressure (IOP) ranges from 14 – 21 mm of Hg. Intra-Ocular Hydrops is an asymptomatic condition with raised Intra Ocular Pressure without any visual impairment or comorbidities. Altered Intra Ocular Pressure above / below normal level with associated visual symptoms & optic neuropathy are referred to as glaucoma. Intra Ocular Hydrops population is at greater risk of developing glaucoma. They remain unnoticed and undiagnosed most of the time for a longer duration or advancement of the condition. Early diagnosis and timely management prevent the progression of the disease to Primary Open Angle Glaucoma and other conditions. Proven Ayurvedic treatment modalities are not available for Intra Ocular Hydrops. In such a scenario, considering the multifactorial involvement, an Ayurvedic protocol containing different treatment modalities was developed and its effect was studied. Materials & Methods: 100 patients were screened from the eye Out Patient Department of institute. 10 Patients who fulfilled the inclusion criteria were enrolled and analysed for results. Ayureda Protocol was administered (Table 1) which included an in Patient Department basis for Nasya, Pindi and Bidalaka for a period of 11 days and Anjana for a period of 30 days. The assessment of Intra Ocular Pressure was done with the help of Goldman’s Applanation Tonometry. The assessment was done on 0th day (BEFORE TREATMENT), 11th day (AT), 26th day (FU1) and 41st day (FU2). Results: For statistical analysis T test was used was used. Within the group, there was a significant reduction of Intra Ocular Pressure with a p-value <0.0001. Conclusion: There was significant reduction in the values of Intra Ocular Pressure and a nearly normal value was achieved as target Intra Ocular Pressure.

    Impact of Yoga therapy on hormonal imbalance in women with Polycystic Ovarian Disease

    The current study aims to evaluate the impact of yoga therapy on hormonal imbalance in PCOS affected women. An empirical study was conducted on 25 women having been diagnosed with PCOS condition.  The study used pre and post design.  Before starting allopathic medication participants were explained about yoga therapy and participants in the study voluntarily agreed to participate in this study without using medication.  Written consent was obtained from the participants. Testosterone, Prolactin, Luteinizing Hormone (LH), Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH), were selected as dependent variables for this study. Before introducing the yoga therapy intervention, baseline hormonal values were collected through blood tests. All the 25 participants practiced yoga protocol specially designed for PCOS condition, for a duration of 12 weeks.  At the end of 12 weeks the participant took the blood test in the laboratory for hormonal levels of PCOS related hormones selected for this study.  Baseline data was compared with Post data.  The impact of yoga therapy on the hormonal imbalance was statistically analysed through paired t-test. The statistical analysis yielded following t values: Serum Testosterone 21.52 (P <0.001), Serum Prolactin 22.13 (P<0.001), Serum LH 30.10 (P<0.001), and Serum FSH 14.16 (P<0.001). The impact of yoga therapy intervention on hormones related to PCOS condition was found to be significantly positive. The results imply that regular yoga practice can be an effective therapy for women with PCOS, especially for correcting imbalance in hormone levels related to PCOS

    Prospective clinical study to evaluate efficacy of Vasantkusumakar Rasa (Herbomineral preparation) on Psychological health of patients of Madhumeha (Diabetes Mellitus)

    Diabetes Mellitus although a modern terminology it has been known to mankind since long through ancient Ayurvedic treatises with name Prameha (Diabetes). As the incidence & prevalence of DM with complications along with its ill effects on psychological health is growing rapid. Due to Consistent stress blood sugar control becomes difficult. So, to search a drug which may improve psychological health is need of an hour. Vasantkusumakar Rasa is one of such drugs mentioned in Ayurveda compendia as treatment protocol of Prameha (Diabetes) also the one which is reputed for its rejuvenating property. This Herbomineral composition is also known to improve psychological health. Its efficacy to improve psychological state in patients of DM i.e. Madhumeha (DM) is evaluated in this study. Herbomineral compound i.e. Vasantkusumakar Ras 125mg two times a day with Luke warm water before meal for one month to 37 patients in experimental group as a add on therapy in continuation to their standard medicines. In control group 31 patients were continued their regular standard protocol medicines for DM. To study the effect of drug following parameters were analyzed on 0th day and on 30th day of study. Parameters included for study are Blood sugar level, Symptoms of Madhumeha (DM), Manas Bhav (Psychological traits) and psychiatric rating scale. These parameters show significant improvement in experimental group but no such effect was found in Control group

    In-vitro anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant study of Sansevieria cylindrica Bojer ex. Hook and Plumeria obtusa L. plants using different methods

    Background: Sansevieria cylindrica and Plumeria obtusa are used as a medicinal plant during intentional and unintentional accidental injuries. However, limited investigations have been performed to study pharmacological activities of these plants. Objectives: The current study designed at examining in-vitro anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant effect of both plant extracts. Material & Method: Initially, the collection and authentication of both the plants performed. Phytochemical screening was done thereafter. Sansevieria cylindrica leaves and Plumeria obtusa seed pods were extracted using a combination of water and ethanol. Anti-inflammatory effect was assessed using membrane stabilization and protein denaturation assays. Anti-oxidant activity was measured by free radicals scavenging method using different reactive oxygen species producing reagents. Results: The dose dependent increase in anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant activities were reported by both plants. Overall, Sansevieria cylindrica has shown higher rate of prevention of inflammation and oxidation compared to Plumeria obtusa extract. Both plants showed comparable anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant activity in combination with that of reference drugs. Conclusion: The hydro-alcoholic extracts of Sansevieria cylindrica and Plumeria obtusa individually and also as 1:1 blend might be responsible for an anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant activities.

    Applied aspects of Dincharya – The Daily Regimen as per Ayurveda, directing towards health maintenance and disease prevention in present era

    Introduction- Dinacharya means an ideal daily regimen as per Ayurveda that offers a lifestyle with beneficial physiological and psychological effects for a human body and mind. Why is it called ideal is because it harmonizes balance between body humors(Dosha),tissues(Dhatu) and wastes (Mala) power of digestion(Agni), grooms a pleasant mind, soul and sense organs and offers disease free long life. This is how health is defined by Sushruta Acharya. This idealism needs also to be understood through conceptual justification from Ayurveda. Dinacharya includes activities such waking in Bramha-muhurta (45min before sunrise), brushing teeth-Dantadhawana, Tongue cleaning-Jihva-Nirlekhan, applying corrylium-Anjana, Nasal drops-Nasya, Oilpulling-Kavala, Medicated gargles-Gandusha, Oil massaging-Abhyanga, Exercise-Vyayama, Powder massage-Udvartana, Bathing-Snana, righteous conduct-Sadvrutta and Bhojana-Rules for food consumption etc. Disregarding them have increased the ratio of non-communicable diseases, idiopathic diseases and lifestyle induced diseases like hypertension, diabetes, cardio-vascular diseases etc. Treatment options like anti-hypertensive drugs, anti-diabetic drugs, blood thinning agents etc, are expensive and have adverse reactions. Also invasive methods are preferred by people with fear of obligation for lifelong medications. This is leading to decrease in quality of life. The conceptual and applied explorative understanding of term ‘ideal’ and applying it with regimen of Dinacharya, can be aptly used to prevent above diseases in population today. Aim- To achieve health maintenance and disease prevention by obeying ideal Dinacharya. Objective-To understand the conceptual logic of idealness of a regimen and explore methods of ideal Dinacharya and justify their utility through updated researches. Materials and methods- Collecting and analyzing data from Google Scholar, PubMed, Scopus etc. Results- In Bramha-Muhurta Cortisol hormone is at its peak in 30 minutes post waking, responsible for anti-stress activity, immune-modulation and metabolic enhancement. Kavala/Gandusha decreases the plaque, gingival scores and the number of bacteria. Abhyanga normalises circadian rhythm by action on tryptophan and serotonin levels. Vyayama-studies shows that it is effective in Alzheimer’s disease, decreases blood pressure in HTN patients, decreases HbA1C in type-2 DM patients and decreases cardiovascular disease. Nasya has helped in preventing URTI and allied severe symptoms ex-COVID19, Discussion- weak immunity causes communicable diseases and disturbed metabolism causes non-communicable diseases. Conclusion -Following ideal regimen through Dinacharya activities timely corrects both these health aspects.     An observational study of endometrial pattern in implantation

    Background: Garbhasambhav Samugri is a concept in Ayurveda which describes factors to bring healthy offspring into the society. The kshetra is one of the four essential factors for the formation and development of the embryo, and the term kshetra is used grossly for women but is specifically used for garbhashaya (uterus). According to modern science, embryo implants in the endometrial lining of uterus. All  components of the endometrium undergo cyclic changes which is called as endometrial cycle. The endometrial cycle prepares the endometrium for implantation of the fertilized ovum coming towards the uterus. The main changes in the endometrium are increase in thickness, growth of uterine glands and increase in thickness and fluid content of endometrial stroma. These changes are reflected as various pattern in the ultrasound. This study will give useful information about which morphological pattern of endometrium is best suitable for implantation.Objectives: The objective of this study is to understand effects of endometrial pattern on implantation, as fertilised egg implants in the endometrial lining of the uterus. Material & Methods: Anonymous data of transvaginal colour doppler ultrasound examination done, on the day of rupture of follicle of menstrual cycle, on 160 women, willing to conceive, has been collected from gynaecologist, from this collected data, results regarding endometrial pattern were derived. Results: It was observed that implantation occurs only in cases having endometrium with trilaminar pattern. Conclusion: Implantation occurs only when endometrium has a trilaminar pattern consisting of a prominent outer and central hyperechoic line and inner hypoechoic region

    In Ayurveda, diet has been given a great importance and is referred as Mahabhaisjaya in Ayurveda classics. Bhaisjaya means medicine or any substance that cure body, means diet is not only to satisfy hunger of Ahaara, but it also acts as medicine i.e., build and cure the body. The distinction between health and disease is correlated with wholesome and unwholesome diet because both body and disease are the product of food. There is urgent need to have knowledge about real facts and burst myths about food items. Ayurveda has its own unique approach to Planning a daily diet for an individual. It is not based on conventional chemistry; rather, it is based on Panchmahabhautic chemistry and Tridoshic functions. In Ayurveda, Annapanavidhi can be correlated with dietetics. It incorporates the concept of Pathya-Apathya, the natural characteristics of different food items and the dietary guidelines which leads towards sound health. According to Ayurvedic classics One type of food can’t be benefited for different type of people. There are many variations like Prakriti, Desh, Kaal, Agni etc. Digestion of Ahara and Poshan by Ahara is based on many factors. It’s not like modern science reduced to calories or in term of carbohydrates, proteins, fats etc. only. Unhealthy diet practice is considered as one of the important reasons of disease. Hence the correction of diet itself is considered as treatment. Without this knowledge our food is worthless even after we consume a very high-quality food.     Evaluation of Accelerated Stability study of KVGAP’S Nutricare powder - An Ayurvedic Neutraceutical Product

    Accelerated stability study  of KVGAP’S Nutricare powder was conducted as per the standard guidelines . 3 pilot batches of KVGAP’S Nutricare powder were manufactured in KVG Ayurveda pharma and Research centre , Sullia  by following methods and procedures used for  commercial scale production batches. Samples were stored at accelerated40 ± 2 °C, relative humidity was 75 ± 5%. The reference samples for the above study were stored at a temperature less than 10 0c.  The samples were withdrawn from the stability chamber at the intervals of 0, 3, and 6 months and evaluated for organoleptic characters, physicochemical parameters, TLC, microbial analysis, test for specific pathogen. . Results showed no significant change in odor, taste, and appearance of Nutricare powder after storing for 6 months under accelerated conditions.   Physicochemical profiles (moisture content, total ash, acid-insoluble ash, pH, water-soluble extractive, alcohol-soluble extractives and acid-insoluble ash,) of the samples during the study period of 6 months didn’t show many differences. Microbiological analysis of the samples showed no signs of microbial growth and specific pathogens were absent in all the samples. After extrapolating the data, shelf life of Nutricare powder (Reference samples) was found to be 6.12 years and accelerated study samples were found to be 4.49 years. . Thus it can be established that Nutricare powder is having shelf life of 4.49 years and product remains stable in accelerated temperature conditions
