    Internet addiction and Integrated-Yoga therapies: A review

    In the past few decades internet has drastically influenced human behaviour with its mixed positive and negative effects. It is emerging as a fast-paced medium to communicate and connect to people. It has a worldwide reach in urban as well as in remote areas. Consequently, its excessive use is leading to serious health hazards and leads to internet addiction too. Noticeably, Cognitive-behavioural therapy has been considered as an effective treatment for internet addiction. A few scientific researches in the past few years have proven that yoga intervention can be used as an effective tool to successfully combat the mental health disorders which arise due to Internet addiction. Aim:  This report summarizes the current evidences of the varied integrated therapies and interventions which help fight Internet addiction and the serious health issues which are the outcomes of internet addiction. We focussed on the evidences described in review articles. Results: Collectively, these reviews suggest several areas where cognitive behavioural therapy and integrated yoga therapy are beneficial. Conclusion: Especially I-Yoga therapies require more intensive researches, so that its benefits can be firmly established. And how much useful it is in long terms and its impact on treating the health hazards caused due to internet addiction is still unclear. Yoga may be suggested as a supportive and effective aide to combat health issues arising due to internet addiction, yet it has not been proven as a stand-alone tool to fight the ill-effects of internet addiction

    Relevance and assessment of Dravya (herbs) used in Masanumasa Chikitsa for prevention of Garbhasrava - A Review

    Every woman goes through several physiological and psychological storms throughout her life. Giving birth to a baby is a most glorious moment if proper care is taken during the time of pregnancy. In Ayurveda, before conception postnatal care has been explained elaborately for good progeny. The negligence in conducting proper Garbhini Paricharya (~Ante-natal care/ideal diet and Lifestyle during pregnancy) may lead to a dangerous outcome like Garbhasrava (~Miscarriage) or Garbhapata (~Abortion). For preventing the episodes of Miscarriage/Abortion Masanumas kashayas (MK) have been explained by Sushruta and Vagbhata. Modern-day research lacks evidence of the use effectiveness of these Kashayas, even though the prevalence of abortion is increasing despite development in the medical sciences. There is the occurrence of spontaneous miscarriage in India has been reported to be around 10%. However, it is observed in 32 % of Indian women. Thus, here is an attempt to review the Masanumas kashayas explained in Sushruta in the interest of the Dravyas mentioned in it. This article will include a review of these drugs from the point of Ayurveda and modern pharmacology.

    Ayurvedic Panchakarma Management of Avabahuka - A Case Report

    Background: Avabahuka is the disease of Amsa Sandhi (shoulder joint), which involves the neuromuscular system. The clinical features of Avabahuka are pain, stiffness, and restricted shoulder joint movement. In this study, Sahachar (Barleria prionitis Linn.) Taila was used for Snehana, and Patra Pottali (Ayurvedic Herbal Bolus) was used for Swedana containing leaves of medicinal plants. Aim and objective: To evaluate the efficacy of Snehana and Patra Pottali Swedana, along with Shamana Aushadhi in Avabahuka. Material and methods: A male patient, 40 years old, was diagnosed with an Avabahuka from a clinical point of view. There was a painful, restricted movement of the right shoulder joint radiating to the right elbow joint. X-ray of cervical region AP and lateral view shows mild straightening of cervical lordosis due to paraspinal muscle spasm and C5 – C6 disc space narrowing. He was treated with Panchakarma Snehana and Patra Pottali Swedana followed by Shamana Chikitsa for 7 days and follow-up after 14 days. Result: The patient was assessed with subjective and objective parameters. The scores of pain turned to reduced 3 to 1, stiffness 3 to 0, and range of movement; flexion 1300 to 1600, extension 500 to 600, abduction 1250 to 1450, adduction 350 to 550, internal rotation 700 to 850, and external rotation 800 to 900. Significant changes and improvements were observed in the clinical features of Avabahuka before and after treatment. Conclusion: The present study shows Ayurveda has better management for Avabahuka, which was observed by strategically combining the effects of Panchakarma and Shamana Chikitsa.

    A cross-sectional study on quality of life and the functional status in post covid-19 patients

    COVID-19 is caused by SARS-CoV2. Post-COVID syndrome is described as signs or symptoms that develop during an infection or after an infection which continue for more than 12 weeks.  The lockdown of COVID-19 had worsened the mental health in both general population and COVID-19 patients. It was reflected in well-being of the people. Hence, a study was carried out to get the better understanding of the health status and limitations in their functions of post COVID-19 patients who were infected within 6 months. AIM: To estimate the quality of life and the functional status in post COVID-19 patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A hospital-based study which was Cross sectional in nature was carried with 100 post COVID-19 patients infected within 6 months, attended between the age group of 18 and 70 of all genders. After obtaining the informed consent, the quality of life of post COVID-19 patients within 6 months was assessed using EQ-5D-5L questionnaire and functional status was assessed using post-COVID-19 functional status scale (PCFS) RESULT: According to EQ-5D-5L scale 43% people affected with Mobility,30% by Self-care, 42% by Usual activities, 65% by Pain/discomfort, 42% by Anxiety/depression. In Post Covid Functional Status Scale - PCFS scale, 65% had limitations in their function ranging from (grade 1 to grade 3)

    Analytical Study of Dashamoolakatu Treyam Kvatha Churna

    Aim: For the purpose of analyzing the active principle in the obtained extracts of the herbs, GC-MS is considered as an important tool. This study includes two techniques where the components is separated by Gas chromatography and the mass spectroscopy does the analysis of the active component. As a part of such an analytical aspect, Dashamoolakayu treyam Kvatha Churna is subjected to GC-MS to study their bioactive compounds. Methodology: 1g of sample was extracted with 10mL of methanol and was filtered through a syringe filter (Nylon 13 mm 0.2um) and injected to GCMS. The components of the oil were identified by comparison of their mass spectra with those of the spectrometer/ mass spectral database using NIST library (NIST -08 SPECTRAL DATA). The identifications were confirmed by comparison of the fragmentation pattern and their retention indices with those reported in the literature. Result: Result shows three peaks with R.T mins as 7.689, 7.964, 8.841 and the compounds are identified are α-Copaene (Tricyclo [4.4.0.02,7] dec-3-ene, 1,3-dimethyl- 8- (1-methylethyl)-, stereoisomer), Caryophyllene, Caryophyllene oxide with peak heights as 17768, 104199, 39458 respectively. Discussion: Identified components has antioxidant, Analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity and are used in the therapy of inflammatory diseases of the upper airways and also in the management of acute and chronic infectious and inflammatory diseases of different localization. Conclusion: Thus, this GC-MS study indicates the scientific validation of Dashamoolakatu treyam Kvatha Churna as a potent medicine as claimed by ayurvedic literature and practice

    Beneficial effect of Barleria buxifolia leaves extract in the treatment of diabetes and associated complications

    The global occurrence of diabetes has witnessed persistent escalation, starting from 151 million individuals in the year 2000, the time when the IDF Diabetes Atlas was initially introduced, to 285 million in 2009, and further reaching 382 million in 2013. Diabetes mellitus is characterized by elevated levels of glucose in the blood plasma. This condition emerges as a consequence of insufficient insulin secretion, insulin resistance or both, subsequently leading to metabolic abnormalities. The plant known as Barleria buxifolia (BB), belonging to the Acanthaceae family, is intended to possess the ability to treat various ailments in the traditional Indian system of medicine. Hence, this research aims to investigate the effects of methanolic and aqueous extracts of BB leaves on diabetic models of rats. STZ (60 mg/kg) was administered to induce diabetes in the rats. Both the extracts of BB were orally administered at doses of 200 and 400 mg/kg, respectively to the normal and diabetic rats, commencing from the 3rd day until the 28th day. Blood samples were examined to determine glucose levels. The diabetic rats exhibited a notable rise in blood glucose levels. The aqueous and methanolic extracts of BB reduced the elevated glucose levels significantly (P > 0.01) and enhanced the body weight of rats. Thus, it can be inferred that BB possesses considerable potential for the management of diabetes mellitus

    Identification of potential DPP-4 inhibitors from Bryophyllum pinnatum by in-silico analysis

    Background: An estimated 463 million people already live with diabetes and that figure is set to rise to over 700 million by 2045, as per the International Diabetes Federation (IDF). The current form of treatment for Type-2 DM can be done with sulfonylureas, meglitinides, metformin, thiazolidinediones, incretin mimetics: Glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1), Glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP), and amylin analogues (Pramlintide). Bryophyllum pinnatum (Lam.) Oken (B. pinnatum) belongs to the plant family crassulaceae used in traditional medicine in Asia. GLP-1 and Glucose-dependant Insulinotropic Polypeptide (GIP), both play a similar role in stimulating insulin secretion and are inactivated by dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (serine protease dipeptidyl peptidase-4) enzymes. Aims: To identify the potential anti-diabetic active compounds of Bryophyllum pinnatum against DPP-4 enzyme using in-silico methods. Methods and Material: The phytochemicals associated with Bryophyllum pinnatum were retrieved from ChEBI and canonical SMILES retrieved, followed by searching for its molecular properties and druglikeness using MolSoft LLC, toxicity test using ADVERPred, Swiss Target Prediction for predicting the DPP-4 inhibitors, molecular docking using Schrodinger software suite. Results: The in-silico study identified two phytochemicals from fourteen that have been predicted for DPP-4 inhibition potential against Type-2 DM. In CH2CL2 and CH3OH solvent compounds 3,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid (-5.623 kcal/mol) and 3,4-didehydro-N4-deethylbrinzolamide (-4.91 kcal/mol) displayed the highest docking scores against human DPP-4 (5Y7K). Conclusions: The above-mentioned compounds revealed no side effects. The in-silico results strongly favour the beneficial use of phytochemicals from Bryophyllum pinnatum as a probable herb that can be used for adjuvant therapy. Further in-vitro and in-vivo tests are needed for confirmation

    Management of post COVID arthralgia by Amalaki Rasayana: A case report

    Background: COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by the newly discovered coronavirus. COVID-19 is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-COV2). Post-COVID syndrome for people who still have symptoms for more than 12 weeks after the start of acute symptoms. This may last up to one year. The most common symptoms reported are fatigue, anorexia, joint pain, dyspnoea, headache, anxiety, and critical manifestations like diabetes, hypertension, pulmonary fibrosis, renal failure, Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), etc. Agnimandya (~diminution of Agni) is a residual symptom of COVID-19 which leads to Dhatukshya (~diminution of Dhatu). Methods: We describe a case of a 50-year-old male who developed arthralgia after the remission of acute COVID-19 infection and post-COVID symptoms. The patient was treated with Haritakyadi yoga for koshtha shuddhi followed by Rasayana chikitsa by Amalaki Rasayana for the next 30 days for post-COVID ailments. The prime aim of treatment was to recover the function of Agni and koshtha shuddhi by administering Haritakyadi yoga followed by rejuvenation treatment by Amalaki Rasayana. The patient was assessed using the WHO well-being index scale, signs- and symptoms of post-COVID, six-minute walk test on the 0th, 15th, and 30th day follow-up. Results: Haritakyadi yoga followed by Amalaki Rasayana reduced symptoms of post-COVID arthralgia, improved energy levels of post-COVID symptoms, and enhanced WHO- well-being score. Conclusions: It is suggested by the mentioned case that Amalaki Rasayana may be used for managing post-COVID arthralgia and for improving general well-being in long COVID

    Role of T-AYU-HM Premium in Paediatric Patients with Sickle Cell Anaemia: A Retrospective Case Series

    Background: Sickle cell disease (SCD), a genetic disorder caused by a beta globin chain mutation, has been recognized as influencing public health worldwide. In India, numerous tribal and underdeveloped groups frequently suffer from this medical condition. The present study evaluates the effectiveness and safety of alternative medicines T-AYU-HM Premium among paediatric SCD patients. Methodology: A single-arm retrospective observational case series of 10 sickle cell disease paediatric population were conducted. The proposed study was conducted to clinically evaluate the safety and effectiveness of T-AYU-HM Premium Tablet (300mg) on paediatric individuals. The clinical and vital data of the patients were collected, evaluated, and reported using the SPSS software based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: The study had a majority of male (80%) patients with a mean age of 3.20±1.23 years. The present study also identified consanguinity. It also observed a non-significant improvement in weight (12.04 ± 2.45) compared to the baseline (11.64 ± 2.46). There was also a non-significantly decrease in the pulse rate from baseline. In terms of hematological parameters, no significant change was observed from the baseline. However, there was a substantial decrease in pain-associated clinical parameters among the paediatric population. Conclusion: The present retrospective analysis shows that patients with SCD were significantly improved by the T-AYU-HM Premium treatment, proving both its efficacy and safety, particularly in pain management. However, the current analysis suggests a substantial body of evidence (prospective) to support using herbal-mineral formulations for sickle cell anaemia among paediatric patients

    Management of Brachial Plexitis through Marma Therapy: A Case Report

    Brachial Plexus disorders are encountered by neurologists as a big challenge despite ever advancing medical system. A variety of disorders affect the brachial plexus. Plexopathies related to inflammation, trauma, tumors, and radiation therapy form bulk of clinical case. This paper focuses on a Brachial Plexitis, an inflammation of the brachial plexus, which was treated solely with Ayurveda without using allopathic drugs. There is no proven treatment in western medicine and is typically managed conservatively. This study aims to explore the potential benefits of Marma Therapy as a treatment modality, contribute to the existing body of knowledge regarding alternative treatment option and provide evidence-based recommendations for healthcare professionals. In this interventional study, a 39-year-old male patient with complaints of pain, stiffness and restricted movements in the left upper extremity for two months was effectively managed using Marma Therapy in accordance with the principles of Vatavyadhi. The Shakagata Marma (located on left upper limb) and Pristha Marma points, including Kshipra, Talahridya, Indrabasti, Kurpara, Aani, Ansa & Ansaphalaka Marmas were subjected to controlled stimulation for a continuous period of 15 days. Following this, the stimulation was carried out intermittently once a week for two months. The patient also received Matra Basti for seven days and massage cupping for four days. Observations showed substantive improvement in pain, stiffness, and range of motion. Marma Therapy proved to be a safe, time-efficient, and cost-effective treatment resulting in complete remission of almost all signs and symptoms. There were no fresh complaints on follow up. The assessment was based on objective and subjective criteria
