Effect of Kshoudradi Aschyotana in Arjuna w.s.r to Sub-Conjunctival Haemorrhage: A Randomised Clinical Trial
Introduction: Subconjunctival haemorrhage (SCH) is a frequent eye condition marked by bleeding beneath the conjunctiva, which causes noticeable discoloration and generally disturbs the affected person. There is currently no specific treatment for SCH in contemporary medical practices. According to Ayurveda, it correlates with Arjuna. It is a rakta pradoshaj vikara (disease caused by vitiated blood) and primarily a pitta-predominant disease manifesting in the Shukla mandala of netra. Objectives: The objective of the study was to compare the efficacy of Kshoudradi Aschyotana with Flurbiprofen Eye Drops in Arjuna with special reference to sub-conjunctival haemorrhage. Materials and Methods: After securing ethical clearance and registering the trial with the CTRI, twenty patients satisfying the inclusion criteria and diagnosed with arjuna were randomised into two groups(10 in each group). The trial group and the control group received Kshoudradi Aschyotana and Flurbiprofen eye drops for 5 days respectively. Objective parameters were assessed using Slit-Lamp photography and the area of the lesions was recorded on the baseline, 5th, and 7th days. The statistical analysis of the area of haemorrhage was conducted using independent and paired t-test for between and within-group analysis respectively. Results: Kshaudraadi Aschyotana has exhibited better results in reducing the area of subconjunctival haemorrhage as compared with flurbiprofen eye drops within five days(P <0.05). Conclusion: The study concludes that Kshaudraadi Aschyotana has beneficial effects in the management of Arjuna as compared with the flurbiprofen eyedrops
A novel sustainable and ecofriendly UV-Spectrophotometric method for the determination of Naringenin in bulk and vaginal niosomal nanoformulation
Naringenin, a flavonoid found in several fruits like oranges, grapefruit, and bergamot, exhibits a wide range of biological effects. These include antidiabetic, antidepressant, antiatherogenic, antitumor, immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, hypolipidemic, antioxidant, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) activation, hepatoprotective properties, memory enhancement and DNA protective properties. The aim of this current study is to develop a simple and precise UV spectrophotometric technique for measuring Naringenin Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) in bulk and vaginal niosomal nanoformulation using PBS (Phosphate buffer solution) pH 4.5. The absorption peak of Naringenin was identified at 287 nm, and it adhered to Beer\u27s law within the concentration range of 2 to 14 µg/ml. The calibration curve demonstrates a linear relationship between absorbance and concentration within the range of 2 to 14 µg/ml. The determined limit of detection and limit of quantification were found to be 0.587672µg/mL and 1.780824µg/mL, respectively. The validity of the method was assessed for repeatability, accuracy and precision. The results obtained indicated minimal intraday and interday variation. The excipients in the nanoformulation did not interfere the analysis. The developed analytical UV spectrophotometric method is simple, rapid and consistent, making it suitable for estimating the drug in both bulk and nanoformulation
Determination of SOD Activity of Vayasthapana Drugs Guduchi Kwatha, Punarnava Kwatha and Punarnava in Conjunction with Guduchi Kwatha in healthy Wistar Rats
SOD (Superoxide dismutase) belongs to a class of enzymes and stands as the primary defense against reactive oxygen species (ROS). Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia) and punarnava (Boerhavia diffusa) are believed to have rasayana (rejuvenating) and vayasthapana (anti-aging) properties in ayurveda. Several studies show the antioxidant properties of individual drugs in disease-induced conditions but a gap was observed in the study of the antioxidant properties of guduchi and punarnava in normal healthy subjects and the combined effect of punarnava in conjunction with guduchi. To gain insight into the potential effects of these herbal formulations on SOD activity study was planned. The Animal experiment was carried out as per the guidelines of CPCSEA (Committee for Control and Supervision of Animal Experiment) laboratory animals after seeking permission from IAEC, with 32 (24+8 considering 20% dropout) healthy male Wistar rats. Rats are divided into four groups, 8 (6+2) animals in each. Distilled water, guduchi kwath (GK), punarnava kwath (PK), and a combination of guduchi and punarnava kwath (GPK) given orally with help of 2 ml syringe in doses 8.1 ml/kg in different 4 groups respectively as Normal control (NC) group, Trial group of guduchi (TGG), Trial group of punarnava (TGP), Trial group of guduchi and punarnava (TGGP) for 30 days. The blood sample through orbital punctures of all 24 animals was collected for assessment SOD levels before administration of the test drug and after 30 days of intervention. (Cu-Zn) SOD activity was determined by using a simple and rapid method with a spectrophotometer in the laboratory. The TGG (P value 0.001), TGP (P value 0.035), and TGGP (P value 0.010) groups did exhibit statistically significant changes in SOD levels after giving GK, PK, and GPK intervention while the NC (P value 0.335) group did not show a significant difference. Higher SOD activity indicates a more antioxidant defense mechanism, thus GK, PK and GPK can protect against oxidative damage which supports the potential slowing down age-related changes and promoting healthier aging
Anatomical study of shringataka marma using cadaveric dissection technique
In Ayurveda, the concept of Marma describes 107 vital points in the body where Prana, or life force, resides. These points are crucial because injury to them can result in sudden pain or even death. Among these, the Shringataka Marma is located on the nose and falls under the category of Urdhwajatrugat Marma or Sira Marma. It measures about 8 cm. ( which is equivalent to four angula) and in turn consists of four individual points. Injury to the Shringataka Marma is considered potentially fatal. In this study, the Shringataka Marma is analysed from the perspective of contemporary anatomy, comparing its location and associated components with insights from both Ayurvedic and modern medical literature. The aim is to explore the anatomical structures associated with the Shringataka Marma using the cadaveric dissection and also used to assess the relevance of ancient Ayurvedic concepts, such as those described by Sushruta, in the context of modern medical understanding
Acute Appendicitis - A Review
The term appendicitis was first used by an epic publication by FITZ (Harvard Medical School) in 1886. FITZ outlined the clinical diagnosis and suggested early removal of the Appendix. Acute appendicitis is one of the most common abdominal emergencies worldwide. The cause remains poorly understood, with few advances in the past few decades. To obtain a confident preoperative diagnosis is still a challenge, since the possibility of appendicitis must be entertained in any patient presenting with an acute abdomen. Although biomarkers and imaging are valuable adjuncts to history and examination, their limitations mean that clinical assessment is still the mainstay of diagnosis. A clinical classification is used to stratify management based on simple (non-perforated) and complex (gangrenous or perforated) inflammation, although many patients remain with an equivocal diagnosis, which is one of the most challenging dilemmas. An observed divide in disease course suggests that some cases of simple appendicitis might be self-limiting or respond to antibiotics alone, whereas another type often seems to perforate before the patient reaches hospital. Although the mortality rate is low, postoperative complications are common in complex disease. We discuss existing knowledge in pathogenesis, modern diagnosis, and evolving strategies in management that are leading to stratified care for patients. 
Effect of Pranayama on Human Body and Mind
A branch of yoga called pranayama is very helpful to people in maintaining good physical and mental health. As prana is the definition of life or energy, practicing asana entails controlling the flow of prana through the body. All aspects of breathing, including inspiration, expiration, and retention, are regulated in part by pranayama. One of the yogic practices for healthy people is pranayama, which can elicit a variety of physiological reactions for breathing exercises, stress reduction, relaxation, and control of psychophysiological conditions. Pranayama controls lung motion, which in turn controls the heart and vagus nerve. As a result, pranayama is closely related to the autonomic nervous system and uses breathing patterns and lung and diaphragm movements to bring its functions under conscious control. In disciplines like yoga and meditation, pranayama refers to the regulation and control of breath, also referred to as the life force. Numerous health advantages have been linked to it, such as enhancements in brain activity, heart function, blood oxygenation, and lung function. Different breathing techniques and habits can have a substantial impact on the autonomic nervous system, which can decrease negative reactions to stressors
Finger Millet: A Comprehensive Review
This review aims to evaluate the nutritional and health benefits of Finger millet, as well as its production and utilization. Finger millet (Eleusine coracana L.), also known as ragi or mandua, is one of the key millets cultivated widely across various regions of India and Africa. It is a highly nutritious grain, rich in calcium, dietary fibre, iron, protein, antioxidants, and vitamins. Thanks to its nutrient density, it aids in managing diabetes, preventing osteoporosis, improving digestion, and supporting weight loss. Agriculturally, finger millet is a resilient crop, thriving in drought conditions with minimal input, contributing to sustainable farming practices. Its adaptability and low resource needs make it valuable for climate-resilient agriculture. Known for its antioxidative and anti-inflammatory properties, finger millet may also help in preventing cardiovascular diseases and cancer. The production of rice influences the consumption of millet in India. Millets offer exceptional nutraceutical properties and exhibit resilience to adverse climatic conditions, which can contribute to food and nutritional security in the modern era. This review synthesizes current research on the health-promoting properties of finger millet, including its potential to combat lifestyle diseases. Overall, this review highlights the multifaceted importance of finger millet as a nutritionally dense, environmentally sustainable, and health-promoting crop, advocating for its wider inclusion in both rural and urban diets as a response to contemporary food security and health challenges
Development of Chromatographic Profile of Processed and non-processed Piper nigrum Linn.
Advanced Chromatographic technique is one of the parameters for qualitative and quantitative assessment. In this study advanced chromatographic studies were conducted for the assessment of processed and non-processed Piper nigrum Linn. Ayurvedic pharmaceutical is enriched in a wide range of preparations. The specific methods are applied for different formulation preparations. Laghumaini vasant is a herbomineral formulation in which one of the ingredients is P. nigrum. In this formulation, the special process is advocated for P.nigrum.Linn. P nigrum should be soaked in buttermilk till the outer black covering is removed. There are possibilities that some changes may occur due to this process. Hence this study focused on the comparative assessment of processed P. nigrum and non-processed P.nigrum. For assessment chromatography techniques were used. HPLC and HPTLC methods were used to get more precise results. High-Performance Thin Layer and High performance Liquid Chromatography were studied by using piperine as a reference standard. The piperine bands were seen in both processed and non-processed P.nigrum when analysed through both techniques. But, HPLC method has shown that piperine recovery is more in processed P.nigrum. In non-processed P.nigrum twenty seven peaks were observed but after processing with Buttermilk twenty one peaks were seen. The small six peaks were missing in processed P.nigrum
A case study on Ayurvedic management of Seborrhoeic Keratosis with special reference to Charmakeel
Seborrheic keratosis is a typical, benign disorder that affects the ageing population. In Ayurveda it can be compared with Charmakeel which is one of the types of Kshudraroga. Acharya Sushruta described several therapy methods such as the internal administration of medication, external application, and para-surgical techniques in the treatment of Charmakeel. In present case report 26 years old female patient visited in OPD complaining of two thick, black patches on right ankle joint with mild itching since 6 months. The case was diagnosed as Charmakeel. Patient was treated with Shamana Chikitsa Mahamanjishthadi kashay, Aarogyavardhini Vati, Punarnavadi mandur, PanchtiktaGhrut guggul as internal medication and Panchvalkaladi taila for local application. Treatment was given for two months and Shodhana Chikitsa (Raktamokshana by Jalauka) was carried out at every 15 days interval during treatment. Patient reported with significant results. Follow-up was taken upto 6 months and patient had no any complaints or recurrence. This case shows that Ayurveda can treat keratosis effectively and without any side effect
Clinical evaluation of therapeutic efficacy of a Siddha herbo mineral formulation “Kumaara Veeriya Kaantha Chenduram’’ with “Nellikkai Legiyam” (internal) in the treatment of Iron Deficiency Anemia
Abstract:
Background:
Kumaara veeriya kaantha chenduram (KVKC) is a siddha herbomineral formulation indicated for paandunoi in Siddha literature (1).Paandu noi is a disease characterized by changes in the body\u27s natural color andpallor found in the skin, nails and conjunctiva.
Objectives:
To determine the efficacy of the KVKC, the open labed clinical study was conducted in National Institute of Siddha OPD.
Materials and Methods:
The 30 patients with Iron deficiency anaemiawere selected and treated with KVKC orally with the dose of 260 milli gram twice in a day with Nellikailegiyam6 gram continuously for 45 days. Laboratory investigations for hemoglobin was done on 1st day and every 15 days once of the study.
Results:
Clinical assessment was done, based on the before and after treatment scores which was compared statistically and recorded.Regarding Hemoglobin level, 24(80%) patients showed increase of 1 to 3 grams from base level, 6(20%) patients showed increase of 0.1 to 0.9 grams from base level.Regarding Serum Ferritin, out of 30 patients, 9 (30%) patients showed 0.1-3.5 ng/ml increase from its base level, 21 (70%) patients showed 3.6-7.0 ng/ml increase from its base level.From the Statistical studies, the Mean ± Standard deviation for Haemoglobin before treatment was 9.7 ± 0.93 and after treatment was 11.18 ± 1.08 which was statistically highly significant (p<0.0001).And Serum ferritin before treatment was 9.27 ± 3.31, after treatment was 13.5 ± 3.49 which was statistically significant (p<0.0001)
