Adjusting Environmental Performance Index Scores toAccount for Gross National Income
Get PDFI examined the Environmental Performance Index (EPI) report assembled by Yale University to address the need for environmental action. In this report, Yale University ranks countries across the globe on their environmental performance based on various indicators. I was interested in determining if all countries were ranked on a fair scale. Yale University acknowledges that each country varies in their economic resources measured by GDP but did not adjust for that in their scoring. I utilized factor analysis and cluster analysis to first analyze patterns and groupings that appeared the countries. I then standardized the original rankings with respect to region and then by Gross National Income (GNI). The new rankings revealed that some countries performed better than in the original report when considering their regional or GNI grouping. Since environmental decline is such a big issue in our global community, it only seems fair to give countries the opportunity to demonstrate that they are making efforts while accounting for each country’s current environmental or economic situation
ElGamal Encryption in the General Linear Groups

This allows us to change our message m to be n-component column vector which allows us to have some computation advantages and can encrypt the messages in a vector form. We check a validity of our modified system with examples. Then, we proceed to check some security aspects of our scheme. Ultimately, we suggest some directions to keep optimal security of our scheme

Get PDFShakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice, QAnon, and Blood Libel explores the contemporary relevance of the work of Shakespeare. The Jewish blood libel was first mentioned by Socrates. Whether Socrates was literal or using an allegory is unknown. What is known, is the story was repeated and used as the basis for a conspiracy theory targeting Jews stating they kill Christian Children to make unleavened Passover bread. This idea has resulted in stereotypes and Jews being the scapegoats for all the ills of the world. William Shakespeare played on this idea in The Merchant of Venice, using a blood libel to commit legalized murder. During WWII the Nazi’s staged the play more than 30 times as inspirational propaganda prior to rounding up large numbers of Jews. Today QAnon has targeted high profile Jews with a variation of the blood libel that has evolved in child sex trafficking, harvesting adenochrome, and a chemical fountain of youth thus showing the ideas of Shakespeare are still relevant today
How Social Media’s Rhetoric Shapes The Social Identity of Online Groups: Forming, Confirming and Reinforcing and The Algorithmic Role
Get PDFThe world has become integrated with technology at a rapid rate. The rhetoric of online platforms, due to technology integration, allows people to connect, converse, and meet others who have common character traits. Eyman (2015) defines rhetoric as an action that intends to persuade and form meaning. These platforms are referred to as social media, which are online networks made by people who use rhetoric to form, confirm, and reinforce the connections of platform users with common character traits: Hobbies, thoughts, race, gender, or religion. These common character traits make up one\u27s social identity. This study details the findings of an extensive literature review with data used from journals, articles, dissertations, and abstracts from the University of Mary Washington library database; to identify how social media\u27s rhetoric shapes social identity through the formation of online groups and reveal how algorithms aid in the confirmation and reinforcement of social identity. This study also uses critical discourse analysis to compare different social groups with similar social identities, illustrating how social media\u27s rhetoric forms, confirms, and reinforces social identity and provides insight into algorithm’s role throughout it all

It is meant to showcase the work I put into my characters and how I grew throughout the process, both as an actor and as a person. To me, theatre is as much visual and tangible as it is performative and imaginary, and I hope that you will find this to be showcased here. You may find quotes from the rehearsal room, various pictures, mood boards, and other visual representations of my experience sprinkled throughout this website. As much as I am an actor, I am a visual artist as well, and I felt that this was the most meaningful way to approach my senior project in performance: putting thoughts into both words and images. I want this to be a visual journey as much as it is an experiential one. I want to approach this as an artist would
Central Equatorial Pacific Warming and Freshening in the Twentieth Century: Insights From a Coral Ensemble Approach
No full textThe tropical Pacific influences climate patterns across the globe, yet robust constraints on decadal to centennial-scale climate variations are difficult to extract from sparse instrumental observations in this region. Oxygen isotope (δ18O) records from long-lived corals enable the quantitative reconstruction of tropical Pacific climate variability and trends over the twentieth century and beyond, but such corals are exceedingly rare. Here, we use multiple short coral δ18O records to create a coral ‘ensemble’ reconstruction of twentieth century climate in the central tropical Pacific. Ten U/Th-dated fossil coral δ18O records from Kiritimati Island (2°N, 157°W) span 1891 CE to 2006 CE, with the younger samples enabling quantitative comparison to a large ensemble of modern coral records and instrumental sea surface temperature. A composite record constructed of modern and fossil Kiritimati coral δ18O records shows a shift toward warmer and fresher conditions from 1970 CE onward, consistent with previously published records in this region
